Connor’s P.O.V

  Some of the people here smiled at us and some whispered, until King Adonis cleared his throat and they all turned, looking up at him as he stood on the huge wide stage. A woman stepped on stage and stood next to him and she was beautiful, but then another lady came and stood just behind her. She looked like a goddess to me and then another man came and stood next to her, which made me slightly angry to see. I had no idea who these other people were, but whoever they were it started the crowd whispering about them.

  “Ladies and gentlemen, I know that most of you didn’t know that I have found my mate, but I have and she has been here for several weeks recovering from various attacks that were done to her by her old Alpha. He is a dangerous man and he wants her back, so he has sent trackers to find her. I would like for you to meet your Queen and my beautiful mate, Liv.” King Adonis announced and everyone cheered and clapped.

  “Thank the Goddess, we finally have a queen after all these years.” I heard a man behind me whisper, but then King Adonis cleared his throat again, silencing the crowd. Everyone’s eyes were on the king and queen, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the beautiful woman on stage with them and my wolf, Con, was going nuts inside my head.

  Adonis’s P.O.V

  “As you all know I have my Beta, Tech. well my mate and queen has decided to have her own Beta as well. Liv, would you like to do the honours?” I said and my beautiful lady stepped forward. 

  “Hello everyone, I wanted to say thank you for the warm welcome and cheers. When Adonis told me that I could have a female Beta I had to think about it for a few minutes before I came to a decision. As you all know Cali did have something with your king, but once she realised that I was his mate and that he loves me she wanted nothing more than to protect me, so I decided to appoint her as my female Beta. I promise all of you I will love every one of you and I will do whatever I can to keep you all safe. I will do my very best to support all of the mothers here, to be there when the hatchlings hatch from their eggs and hold them like they are my own. I promise to never betray the kingdom, nor the king or any of you.” Liv announced and again everyone cheered. I waited for a few minutes, then cleared my throat again and everyone went quiet again.

  “Alright everyone, we have newcomers. They are tired of being rogues, so for the first time I’m letting wolves inside the kingdom to become members of our pack. Please welcome Connor and his pack.” I said, introducing them to the crowd. I saw the surprised look when everyone around them cheered for them. I knew that as rogues they never got this kind of welcome before, but I also knew that part of it was just out of respect for me.

  “Right then, Connor, the rules are as follows. Number one, you must respect everyone, if you have a problem with that rule you are more than welcome to leave. Number two, if you find your mate I must know about it so that it can be written down for our records. Number three, never betray me or your queen because that will be automatic death. Number four, everyone here must work and there are plenty of jobs here, so there is no excuse to not have a job. Number five, if you go hunting then you must clean and cook your own kill, then clean up after yourself. Number six, if you have pups with your mate then I must know so that I can add it to our records. I keep records of everything, so don’t worry. Number seven, do not, I repeat do not ever be disloyal to your mate, don’t beat or abuse your mate, if you don’t want to be with your mate then reject them, but under no circumstances are you to ever beat on them. If you decide to pick a chosen mate instead, then you are welcome to do so, but I must know about it so that it can be added to our records. Number eight, if you ever challenge myself or my queen and you lose, then you will die. All challenges here are to be fought to the death. If any of these rules are broken then you will be kicked out of the pack and you will become rogues again or you will die. The final decision will be with me and my queen.” I said and they all looked a little stunned by the rules. Were they going to reject the rules and leave or were they just overwhelmed by all of this?

  Connor’s P.O.V

  Cali, her name was so beautiful, just like her and no matter how much I tried to ignore my wolf but he kept clawing at my insides, trying to break through. A dragon and a wolf can’t be mates, it just can’t be, can it? It would be so complicated and we are so different, she can fly and I can’t, so how would this even work? I shook my head to try and clear my mind up, then I agreed to all of the rules that King Adonis just said, even though I wasn’t really listening to them and so did my people. When Cali came down off the stage with the others I couldn’t take my eyes off her, but I also saw her looking at me too. I was thankful when King Adonis came over to me and shook my hand, welcoming me to his kingdom.

  “I’m the dragon king as you know, but I’m not an Alpha for wolves, so I was wondering if you still wanted to be in charge of them, your pack of wolves I mean.” King Adonis said, confusing me.

  “Sir, I’m sorry to correct you, but I was never in charge of them. The only thing I did was keep them all safe, together and out of harm's way, it's because of this that they look up at me.” I replied and King Adonis nodded, but he had a look on his face that puzzled me.

  “You have taken care of them, you have treated them equally and you have cared for each of them, which is what an Alpha does for his pack. To me you are the perfect Alpha for them and it is only right that you stay in charge of them. You will help guide them through this transition, help them find jobs here and keep them all well. 

  “Thank you so much, I appreciate the confidence you have in me, I won’t let you down, I promise.” I replied, shocked by his comments and kind words.

  “I noticed that some of the pack members were injured when they came in, but they had also been treated for those injuries from what I could see with the bandages.” King Adonis said and I nodded.

  “Yes, some of my pack members were injured and it was hard for me to find the proper bandages and such, but I managed to help them as best as I could.” I replied and he looked thoughtful, but I had no clue why.

  “I say you could get a job in the hospital, have you ever had any schooling?” King Adonis said and I nodded.

  “Yes, I had a little, but most of what I know I learnt first hand.” I replied and King Adonis nodded and smiled at me.

  “Very well, be there at six in the morning. I will show you around and….I’m sorry, but I must go. The guards will show you where you will be living from now on, you will all have your own rooms and you must shower every day, you’re not rogues anymore.” King Adonis said and then he quickly left. I had no idea what was going on, but it was obvious that something was wrong with how he stopped talking mid sentence and then quickly left.

  Adonis’s P.O.V

  I was talking to Connor about jobs, but then I felt something off inside me, something really really weird and I had no idea what it was. I felt alone, scared, angry and a whole lot of other feelings, but these weren’t my feelings and they could only come from one person. Liv. I looked around the hall, but I couldn’t see her anywhere and that's when I started to worry. I searched all through the hall and surrounding rooms, but I couldn’t find her, so I went to our room. As soon as I walked inside I noticed that the double doors to the balcony were open, that was her favourite place to go when she needed time to think, I thought, smiling to myself. I walked through the doors and saw Liv sitting in the chair, looking out into the woods.

  “Everything okay, Liv?” I asked, sitting in the chair next to her. There was something bothering her and I knew that it would take her time to gather her thoughts before she spoke about them, but I needed to know that she was alright.
