THE ROYAL LEGACY – Chapter Six   Sebastian So I left the pack house anyway. I just have to get home before the meeting so Korin wouldn’t tattle on me. How could be so careless? Now she has discovered how I had been sneaking out. I kept my head down as I ran along the tree line behind the packhouse. Soon as I reached the thicker forest leading to the main gate, I ran as fast as I could. I had to beeline upon reaching the main entrance to the territory. Or else, I had to tell the guards where I was going. No thanks. “What took you so long?” Naya said to me soon as I reached the bridge where I told her to meet me. I smiled as I spotted her red jeep. It was as red as her hair. That seemed to be the color that represents her, given that it’s also her last name. Naya elbowed me before she walked around her vehicle and hopped back to the driver seat. I climbed into the passenger side, smirking. “So where to?” My best friend started the engine and drove out of the side of the road. “To the place where the only thing that matters is our belly!” I laughed. “So it is a party?” “A big one,” she said with a huge grin. “Remember our teacher in Social Studies? Last year?” “Yeah?” “It’s his wedding!” My eyes widened and I felt my wolf prancing about. Our teacher in Social Studies had given as hell back in our last year of middle school. For some reason, he just hated the sight of me and Naya was dragged into it. In class, we would have reports. Among all the students, I was always subjected to a ton of questions; it was as if our teacher was grilling me live over my reports. At some point, it became more of a thesis defense with him. I don’t know. His blood just seemed to boil around me. “Look in the backseat,” Naya said to me and my eyes sparkled seeing the clown costumes. For a party, they were awesome. Pretending to be a hired act was so much fun and we ate a lot. Food is life for the two of us. We even had our fair share of dine and dash. “We are clowns on his wedding? Is it going to be at a church?” I asked imagining ourselves in the church and stopping the wedding just before the vows are heard. That would be epic. “Just the reception. Or we wouldn’t get the chance to eat our hearts out.” I sighed as I slumped my back in my seat. “I can’t stay out late.” “What? Why not?” she asked me as we turned around a corner. Her jeep took the route leading to the north of the province. “Family meeting. An important one,” I said whilst almost rolling my eyes. Rune has been silent about me ignoring my responsibilities in the pack. He’s also mad over my childhood friends, our childhood friends. We feel abandoned. Naya hummed as she slowed down. It was a Sunday and yet the city had this much people driving around. “Is it about the next alpha of your pack?” I shook my head as I said “no”. Naya has been aware that I’m a werewolf and she’s not scared over it. My parents are against me making human friends. They can’t risk anyone knowing about us. They know about Naya and they made me promise not to hang out with her too often. She can’t know we’re werewolves. It’s too late for that though. “It’s more important than that,” I told her. “Which is why, this wedding crashing will be the best distraction!” “Yeah!”   Naya parked her jeep at the lot behind the hotel where the wedding and reception were to be held. She and I headed inside with the bags containing our costumes. We walked past the reception acting as we knew our way. We were stopped before we could head to one of the ballrooms. “Are you guests to one of the events here?” the hotel staff who stopped us asked. “Oh yes,” Naya said with a sweet smile. Here goes her elaborate series of lies. She flipped her log red hair as she told the staff that her uncle invited her to the wedding but she accidentally lost her invite because she’s a klutz that way. She dropped her paper bag purposely as she acted struggling to find her hotel key card, the one her uncle gave her. “I told you you must have left it in the car,” I told Naya. She winked as she looked back at me, making sure the staff didn’t see it. “We’re going to be late for the wedding,” I added, acting impatient. “Maybe I should just tell my sister she shouldn’t get married to your uncle.” “Are you crazy?” She hissed at me. I heard the staff clear his throat but we didn’t stop bickering. “I believe you two are really going to be late,” the staff said and immediately we stopped. The two of us sprinted our way down the hall and took a sharp turn to the restrooms. We both locked the men’s room to get changed. “It still fits!” I exclaimed happily as I exited the stall I came in. I had grown taller since the last time we used the clown costumes. I fished the right pocket for my red nose and there it was. “How do I look?’ Naya asked as she spread her arms and displayed her puffed outfit. I gave her a high five and then off we go to crash a wedding. We walked into the ballroom where the reception was to be held. We scanned the area and noticed the staff doing their final touches to the tables, the menu, the flowers—the whole setting. I smiled seeing the red and white roses. When I w as younger, Theo would bring me the red ones and Thad would give me the white ones. I shook my head vigorously after accidentally thinking of those two. I had been fine since I left the packhouse and not even a few hours had passed, there I was thinking of them again. Keep it together, Sebastian. You have a wedding reception to feast on. “Do you think they have lamb?” Naya whispered at me, ignoring the curious eyes before us. “Like we care,” I told her. “We’ll eat whatever is served.” “Oh, yes.” We began to walk further but the manager of the wedding preparation team, I believe they’re called the banquet team, stopped us. “Can we help you, guys?” She said with an amused smile. “We’re here to crash our friend’s wedding,” Naya said. The staff only chuckled. “Why are you crashing? You didn’t get invited?” “Oh, we did,” I said. “We just want to mess with him. He failed to mention he was having a bachelor’s party the other night. He didn’t invite me,” I added through a whisper. “So you’re here to do a clown act,” he s aid quoting through hand gestures the words “clown act”. “Yes. Yes, we are,” Naya replied. “Well, have fun guys.” The staff left us, shaking his head and I bet he was smiling as the other staff were smiling back at him as he walked back to his post. Soon, the wedding goers came into the ballroom while Naya and I hid under of the tables. The white covers made our hiding spot perfect. We were already eating the best food on the menu under the table. Naya and cackled silently when the groom and the bride sat on their seats at the table where we were hiding. We could only see the pair of trousers and the bottom half of the gown. When we sensed that it was time for someone to make a speech, Naya and I revealed ourselves. We heard gasps as our colorful selves emerged from under the couple’s table. “Alvin!” The two of us exclaimed as we rounded our arms around our former teacher. “Congratulations, darling!” Naya said in her British accent. “As promised, we made it to your wedding. I held myself from laughing seeing the confused look in his eyes and the dropped jaw of his bride. I winked at her and her face flushed. I guess I make a cute clown. Naya took a glass of champagne and held a spoon to cling against it. “Everyone, Alvin here forgot to mention he was getting married! He made a fool out of me!” Whispers echoes in the room and the bride stood up abruptly. “What is going on?” Our former teacher looked back at me and then to Naya. He realized who we were. We should have worn make up, darn it. “You two!” “Oh darling, don’t be harsh on and your best friend,” Naya added as she batted her eyelashes. “You two are done. Get out!” We didn’t move. He stood up abruptly making his chair fall over. “Get out!” We did but not before we stole the wedding cake. The bride and groom fell off as we ran off with it. Naya and I were breathless when we reached the elevator. Somehow she managed to steal a key card from someone. We headed to that room. We were laughing  all the way to the fourteenth floor. If the staff were looking for us, they’d be looking for us outside thinking we left. We reached the hotel room. Naya opened it with the card on her hand. We laughed again when we realized we arrived at a very nice suite. We laid the cake at the table in the living room before e began jumping on the couches, laughing our arses off. As our laughter subsided and a momentary exhaustion got to us, we got off the couch and I headed to the bathroom. My steps immediately stopped soon as I reached the door. Someone was inside. Someone whose blood was flowing into the drain of the shower. Someone who’s very, very dead. _____________________ chapter 6 ends.
