THE ROYAL LEGACY – Chapter Seven   Sebastian The man isn’t from here. His light blonde hair and fair skin indicated he’s from the west. He wore a black suit and pants. His white shirt was covered in blood. I stared at his liefeless body thinking how I missed the scent of a dead person within a few meters of proximity from me. Clearly, I was not myself because I was having so much fun. Blood continued to flow slowly into the drain. This man was killed not so long ago. Maybe even within a couple of minutes before we reached this room. “Seb!” Naya called for me and I heard a long beeping sound in my left ear. We were in deep trouble. “Naya…” I uttered softly when I sensed her coming closer to me. Then a shriek broke. I covered Naya’s mouth quickly before anyone could be alerted of our presence in the room. “Shhh…” I ignored her muffled scream in my palm as I guided her away from the bathroom door way. “We need to leave before anyone finds out we’re here.” “He’s dead!” Naya blurted out as I let her go. Her eyes were filled with fear, wide and panicking. I could only purse my lips. Only when I saw my reflection in the mirror by the hallway leading to the entrance that I notice my hands were trembling. I hurried back to where we dropped our paper bags and grabbed them. “I need to call my brother,” I said as I walked towards the door. “What if someone’s outside?” Naya whispered, grabbing my hand so I couldn’t reach the door. I turned to my best friend and for a second tried to think. I gave her a nod and turned around to peek at the hole on the door and see if anyone was indeed outside. “Put your nose back on. We need to make a run for it before someone comes here.” I heard her say “okay” nervously and I opened the door slowly. When I didn’t see anyone approaching from both sides, I grabbed her hand and lead her to run towards the stairs. We were scared and adrenaline was high. Rune was telling me to keep my ears open and my nose sharp. The hotel was reeked with all sorts of scents and it was hard me to concentrate when I was scared as heck. I was scared for Naya. She saw a dead person. For a human, that must be terrifying. I could feel Naya’s heartbeat. It was fast, as if racing with our steps as we made our way out of the hotel and into the parking lot in the back. Soon as we reached her vehicle, I asked for her key and I drove us out of there, driving away as if we’re running for our lives.   ***   “Are you okay?” I asked my best friend soon as we reached her apartment building. We parked by the parking lot in the front. She lives by herself. Her landlady serves as her guardian. Naya is an orphan. She told me she has a long distant relative that sends her allowance every month for her expenses. “Y-Yeah,” she said to me while playing with the ruffles of her costume. Her red nose had fell off somewhere so now I could see her nostrils twitching. That happens when she’s holding back her tears. I pulled my best friend and gave her a hug. “No one can know we saw that man, Naya.” For me, I couldn’t allow my parents knowing I was at that hotel to wreak havoc at a former teacher’s wedding reception. As for Naya, this kind trouble would make her relative come down here to Estelle. She told me once that can’t happen. It would mean, they’ll take her away and send her to another school. For a little less than an hour, we just stayed in her jeep, sitting and leaning our heads in our seats. “You have a meeting in the evening right?” Naya said after an hour passed. I nodded at her without averting my eyes off the passing cars in the street. I was thinking of how to tell Keiran about what happened without him freaking out. It was the first time, I saw someone dead and I was not sure of it was a werewolf or a human, Or maybe something else. “You should go,” Naya said to me. I turned to her and saw her eyes trained on me. She smiled meekly. “If you don’t miss the meeting, they wouldn’t pry on where you’ve been, right?” “Yeah, you’re right. I straightened up in my seat and grabbed the bag that contained my clothes I came when I met her. “Stay in your apartment, okay?” She chuckled softly. “Where else would I go?” I shrugged and opened the door of the driver seat before hopping out of her jeep. Her building was miles away from my house so I sprinted my way there. Once I was close enough, I changed into my clothes and hid the clown costume in one of the trees a couple hundred yards from the perimeter of our territory. I reached the pack house with none from my family seeing me. After getting to my room, the adrenaline rush subsided and I dropped my body on my bed. A dead man in a hotel room. I could never unsee it anymore. I’ve trained with my parents. Hard. With blood, bones broken, flesh cut open, but I was not prepared to see an actual dead person. With all the stories Uncle Kelvin told us about the war, I thought I knew how it is to be faced with death. I groaned as contemplated with my wolf, Rune. He’s mostly quiet but we do talk a lot whenever we’re alone. ‘We need to run,’ Rune said. I rolled over my bed and face the ceiling. “That was scary, Rune.” ‘It was. Now we need to relax before we see your parents, my parents.’ I sighed and slowly sat up. I lazily took my clothes off and headed to the door. I could hear the rowdy pack in the backyard as I opened my door. I learned to use my paws when I’m on my wolf form. Rune felt so proud the first time we opened the door after I shifted. I walked down the grand staircase towards the main hall and there I was met by my mother. I suddenly felt the need to snuggle with her. I wanted to feel safe. Even just to be next to him would probably ease my mind as much as running will just about now. “Seb?” My mother said through the link as I stopped at the bottom steps. I wanted to tell him how scared I was only less than two hours ago, how my best friend and I ran away from the scene like our life depended on it, how I saw a dead man— “You saw a dead man?” My mother asked with tightly furrowed brows as he walked towards me. I backed away seeing his tightened jaw. “Dad…” In a blink of an eye, my mother was next to me with his arms around my neck. “What happened to you?” he asked me as he ran his palm on my head. “Sweetie, what happened?” “I saw a dead person, Dad. Someone… Someone hurt him bad. His neck was punctured.” ___________________________ chapter 7 ends.
