THE ROYAL LEGACY – Chapter Five
Thaddeus
I inherited King Timothee’s incredible instincts and I just know my brother too well. Theo told me he was just going to get his phone from the castle and call his friends he wouldn’t make it tonight. He’s not coming out of that door; he totally ditched tonight’s hunt.
Dear Goddess…
I sighed and turned back to my motorcycle. I need a clear head before I tell my parents Theo wouldn’t make it to the hunt tonight. I let him off my sight and for the first time, he failed to mindlink me that he didn’t plan to do whatever was planned by the family. Usually, he’d give me a heads up. Through our mindlink, he’d give me simple “see you tomorrow” or “bye, suckers”.
It was already past six in the evening, two hours past since my brother did a disappearing act on me. He would have still been able to mindlink me as I was still inside the pack’s territory. Sometimes, he could even mindlink me when he's beyond the border. I stopped by the river a couple miles from the castle before I revved my engine to go back. I didn’t want to disturb our hunting ground before it was time.
Just as I drove back, my phone rang. It was an old one I found in my room and I was glad it was still working. Knowing Theo, he would have forgotten to get me one later. This call better be him, I thought. I stopped and opened my phone to see Korin calling me. She is Sebastian’s older cousin, son of his uncle Kelvin.
“Hey, little prince!”
I chuckled at the way s he called me. Korin always called me that ever since I met her. I was eight back then. Theo hated it. At some point I began to consider her as Sebastian’s sister since she’s as close to him as Keiran is. Keiran is Sebby’s older brother.”What’s up, sis?”
“Oh nothing much,” she said with a giggle. “Just wanna let you know that your Sebby jumped out of the house today.”
“He what?!” I hissed as I gripped my phone. I felt my heartbeat increase and my wolf Aragorn growl.
“Oh no, he’s not hurt or anything. He was just sneaking out.”
I gritted my teeth and closed my eyes imagining the Sebby jumping out of his window to go somewhere. Perhaps to meet with school friends. Well, that’s something he shares with Theo. Goddess…. These two.
“So, is he okay?” I asked just to be sure. Korin has been my spy in Silver over Sebastian and I knew from her he doesn’t heal as fast as his siblings, slower than Leigh Anne even. It wasn’t my first time hearing him jump off of some place. One time, I was told he tried to copy uncle Kinsley’s run and he tripped over a rock. He broke a toe and it took him hours to heal. Theo and I begged our parents to fly us to Estelle province to see Sebby. I was upset when we got there and Sebby was still in pain.
“He’s fine,” Korin answered me with a chuckle. “In fact, he was grinning at me. I was going to make him call you in exchange for keeping my mouth shut.”
She couldn’t be more obvious that she’s in favor of me and my infatuation for her cousin. She once told me she was ‘shipping’ me hard with Sebby. I didn’t know what it meant until I looked it up online. Apparently though, Theo knew what ‘shipping’ means. He hates reading but he knew that word. Figures.
“Thanks for telling me,” I told Korin. “Did he leave already?”
“Of course he did.” I heard her sigh. “Two more years, little prince. Two more years and you two can go off and be mated but until then, I have to keep an eye on his sneaky arse.”
I wish that was true. No one can be sure of it, I know. “I appreciate that.”
“No biggie. He’s a little of a troublemaker now but nothing to be worried about. If I were you, I’d come down here and just find out if you’re really mates. You’re past that age already.”
“It’s complicated,” I told her. I wish I could tell her more.
“I know. I know. Okay, I’ll talk to you soon. I’ve got a meeting to go to.”
“Okay, bye.”
Speaking of meeting, I had to get back now. My parents should be home by now unless the extended their date to dinner.
“Hi, Dad,” I greeted my maternal parent soon as I got off my motorcycle. I drove it straight the palace’s garage where their car just came in. Pops came out of the driver seat and tossed me something. It was a box and a smile instantly adorned my face. “Thank you, Pops.”
“You’re welcome. Your brother would forget to get you one and we all know it.” King Terrence turned to his mate and a softer smile played on his eyes and lips. “Ready for tonight, love?”
“You know I am,” my mother replied as he elbowed Pops on his side. These two never cease to amaze me. One moment, they’ll be the passionate couple, kissing under a tree. The next, they’re training together as if war was about to come, going at each other with an intent to kill. Now, they’re giving each other teenage-in-love vibe.
I mentally sighed and just focused to what I was holding. One day, I’ll have the same thing my parents have. This phone should be enough for now. I told myself I’d call Sebby before the hunt. He usually would ignore my calls but that didn’t stop me from trying. Hearing his voice is enough for now.
“Can you tell your brother to be ready in a couple of hours, Thad?” My mother asked before he and Pops reach the door that would lead to the ground floor of the palace. The garage is on the basement level.
“Yeah, I will.” I pursed my lips after answering him. Seeing him so happy from their date and getting a new phone, I couldn’t possibly say Theo wouldn’t make it. If only Dad could sense Theo the way he can sense the rest of the pack, he would know my twin brother isn’t home. As far as I knew, my mother couldn’t tell if we’re home or not ever since we turned eleven and shifted into our black wolves.
Theo and I were born as wolves—baby wolves. On the first full moon after he gave birth to us, we turned into our human forms. My father once told us that one of my mother’s generals before the Third Great War couldn’t sense him as a member of the royal family and it was probably because he was still pregnant of us.
I had a couple of hours to find Theo which means I had to call one of his friends. That, or searched every bowling alley or club in town. It was still early so he must be in a bowling alley.
Instead of going back inside, I calmed my mind and drove out of the garage. I drove past the long road leading to the palace. On each side, life thrived – it was all green with orange and yellow hues passing through the leaves and branches. I drove faster and soon reached the main gate. Guards manned the gates of the pack’s territory. Unlike others, ours is fenced all the way around. It’s probably the only pack that’s heavily guarded. We are, after all the royal family.
The gate opened and the two guards on both sides of the gate gave me a bow. I nodded at them and drove past. The town is miles away, to the west of Crimson pack’s territory. Crimson is lead by my uncle Viorel, Dad’s older brother.
Arriving in town, I tried to sense my brother, something he and I share. With all the smell of people from all walks of life, it was hard to find him. Werewolves and humans who know us live in harmony in this town unlike the city next to it. Most people are oblivious of the fact that we exist. We keep it that way.
I slowed my drive and looked around when I sensed someone familiar. That’s when I spotted Matthew, the soon to be alpha of Crimson. He’s talking to whom I could tell a member of his pack. I paid them no find as I continued to search for my brother. Then I found him.
I sensed him around the corner of a block past where Matthew was at. I drove and saw Theo with his palm around someone’s neck. I could only sigh. He could get aggressive when he’s in a fight.
“Theo!”
My brother stopped from gripping the guy’s neck and turned to me. “Oh hey. You found me.”
I could feel my wolf rolling his eyes. “Of course I did. Dad and Pops are home. You better be, too.”
He groaned and turned to the person in front of him. “Next time, don’t kick my car just because you felt like it. And don’t show your face in the university or I’ll grip where it hurts the most.”
I felt the fear in the guy’s eyes as he nodded vigorously.
