Chapter 4

THE ROYAL LEGACY – Chapter Four Sebastian  I guess there’s a lot of ways I can distract myself from thinking about my so-called childhood best friends. Aside from the river, there’s my family. Watching their daily activities sometimes gives me amusement or thoughts to ponder. Today, I watched as my alpha mother, Kinsley, trained my sister with his beloved martial arts – karate. The room that used to be small and enough to accommodate my mother’s martial arts training before I was born had been expanded in order to train other young ones. At the moment, there was just my mother and my sister. “Ha-ya!” Leigh Ann had a proud smug on her face as her kick landed on the neck of a dummy in front of her. Her feet were back on a starting stance just as she watched the broken part of her wooden enemy. “That’s gotta hurt,” the voice said behind me. I smiled. My father, Skylar, stood next to me and by the tone of his voice, I knew he was a bit worried over my sister. She barely turned ten but she’d wear bruises every time I’d see her train. As werewolves we can heal from bruises, cuts, even bigger wounds. That doesn’t stop my father from wearing furrowed brows and slightly tensed face whenever my sister is training with my mother. I turned on my feet to leave the doorway. “Aren’t you joining us?” My mother called for me. My steps halted. I pursed my lips and imagined the expectant look in his eyes. I have known that the reason my parents trained us to fight as young as six or seven years old was because of the horror of the war that happened before I was born. My brother Keiran had been trained by not only our parents but also by the head warrior, Uncle Ivan. Me? I’ve had my fair share of training from our parents as well our grandfather, Kristoff Rigodon. I’ve been a little stubborn lately; I’ve been avoiding training as much as I could. At times, I just didn’t the point of it all. “I’m good, Dad.” “Yeah? Still having that rebellious “I don’t like training” stage?” my mother added. I heard my father softly snorted. “I’m not rebelling,” I answered. “I’m just good.” “Sure, you are.” “Yup. Okay. Gotta go!”     “How’s the rebellious Rigodon these days?” Uncle Kelvin asked me when I arrived at the kitchen. It’s a Sunday and around this time, he sometimes would still be in the kitchen preparing for a small picnic for him and Uncle Ivan, his mate. Such a romantic… “That’s my identifier these days?” I asked Uncle Kelvin. I grinned at him before I took a green grape into my mouth from the platter on the table. “Oh yeah,” he said to me with a wink. His basket of food was almost ready. “Your father was kind of like you but not really.” “What does that mean?” When it comes to stories about my parents, my uncle and my mother’s friends are the best sources. “You father was a bit of an a*ss back then. His way of being a rebellious Rigodon was sleeping around. So I guess you two are different.” “Of course we are,” I agreed. He narrowed his eyes on as he leaned to my face. “Don’t get any idea, okay? Or the two princes of the palace will have our heads.” I rolled my eyes and looked away. It sometimes surprises me how Thad and Theo enters a conversation I have with just about anyone from my family. “That’s why I don’t hang out with you, Uncle Kelvin.” “Aww. That hurts,” he said to me while clutching his chest. “Maybe I’ll give them a call and find out when they’ll come visit us.” A low growl reverberated in my chest. Now I need a long run for this.  I went back to my room located on the center part towards the rear of second floor of the pack house. It’s right between Keiran’s and Leigh Anne’s rooms. Entering my room, I heard my phone ring. I walked towards my white painted nightstand on the left side of my bed and picked up my phone. “I’m waiting by the entrance of your kingdom. Care to join me?” I smiled at the text I received from my best friend – Naya Red. She and I have been best buds since middle school. She used to be the girl my uncle Kelvin teased me with until he didn’t. Earlier, I told Naya that my brother Keiran was asking me to consider being the next alpha. Again. She knew how badly I didn’t want to do it. It would stress me out to think that Keiran would ask me about it. He’s the eldest and that his age, he’s more than capable of leading our pack. “Where to?” I texted Naya to which she replied. “Somewhere sixteen year olds are not allowed to go to.” My smile widened. It’s still very early go to a club. And by go, I meant “sneak into”. There are no birthdays I could think of we could crash. That’s usually very fun to do. A mall? Sounds good to me. I took my white t-shirt and shorts off and went through my closet to pick up another t-shirt, a black one that said “What?” and black ripped jeans. I texted Naya that I would be right out. Pops and Dad would definitely stop me if I left on a Sunday to spend my time carelessly and irresponsibly outside the pack’s territory so I did my best to sneak out. I left my room through the window, something that my parents somehow haven’t discovered me doing yet. Thank Goddess. As I landed, somebody cleared their throat. “Korin!” “Well. Well. Well. If it isn’t my wonderful baby cousin Sebby sneaking out to see his girlfriend,” Korin said with arms crossed. She wore that grin that said “I finally caught you, you sneaky little devil” look. Smugly, I might add. Korin is the same age as my brother and my first choice for y brother’s beta. She’s the strongest among the female werewolves in the pack and vouched for her strength to protect Keiran when time calls for it. I sighed as I stared at her dark orbs. “What do I need to do so won’t tattle on me, my favorite cousin?” “Hm? Let me see… Don’t leave the packhouse?” “Aw, come on. It’s a Sunday,” I retorted. “When you were my age, you had your fair share of sneaking out.” She raised her thick brows on me before her eyes turned yellow. Her long dark braided hair seemed to speak for her too, telling me off silently that I was on the very wrong side of this vocal duel. She reminded of the singer of the song River and I almost smiled to myself when I heard her say, “Bullocks! Keiran just mindlinked me to remind me of the meeting tonight. I can’t believe the annual alpha gathering is happening this month.” The alpha gathering… “You’re supposed to come,” Korin said to me while my mind wandered to the palace where the alpha gathering is to be held. I groaned when I remembered what my brother told me as we left the river yesterday. The meeting is later this evening at sunset. “Do I have to?” I asked, playing dumb over it. “Yes,” she said to me firmly. “Don’t think of getting there late or I’ll tell Uncle Kinsley how you’ve been sneaking out all this time. Frack me.    ___________________ chapter 4 ends.
