CHAPTER NINE As she squared her feet on the floor, ready to jump to her feet, Stella realized with a shock how idiotic she was being. She must be more stressed than she’d thought, if an argument with her best friend was making her overreact this way. How had things degenerated so fast, she wondered. They were about to actually fight. Over what, exactly? She let out a deep breath and shifted in her seat, stretching her legs out, forcing the cramps in her shoulders to ease. “Perhaps we should change the subject,” she suggested, hearing the tension in her own voice. Rebecca nodded apologetically. “I’m sorry, Stella. I didn’t mean for this to escalate. I wish I’d never said anything.” “But you like Vaughn, don’t you?” Stella asked, feeling anxious for her friend’s agreement on this point
