CHAPTER EIGHT An hour and a half after leaving Greenwich, Stella pulled up in a quiet backstreet in New Brunswick, New Jersey. These were the surroundings she was used to, she thought with relief. Compact, pretty houses, cars parked in the street, a relaxed and homely feel. The Range Rover felt overly bulky, and Stella frowned in concentration as she wedged it into an available space, with the parking sensors clamoring at her. By the time she’d gotten it safely into the gap, Rebecca had seen her. The blue-painted door of the tiny house was open, and Rebecca herself was pacing out onto the street. She looked well, Stella thought as she climbed out of the car. Her green eyes were sparkling and her red hair, which had been longer the last time they’d seen each other, was trimmed into a flat
