Chapter 32-Family Time

(Amira) Before I knew it, it was thrust upon the wolves... I walked into the room, the doors thudding behind me and causing me to jump as the noise echoed throughout the hall, prompting me to kneel hastily. I knew by now that this was what they expected of me as I bowed my head forward. I stayed there silently waiting for my instructions, unsure of who would speak first. "You may rise." Dalia stated firmly, making me glance up as I settled my eyes on Dalia, Kamaris, Axton, and a man I had never met all sitting at the long table. I hadn't seen this new man before..he had long blonde hair and golden skin, his eyes were a vibrant green and he was actually smiling at me, causing me to blink from surprise. I don't think I have met a single unattractive person since coming to Alysian I swear...everyone was either overly beautiful like Kamaris, or averagely beautiful loke Esmerelda. Which wasn't saying much, considering their average beauty was model quality in my old world. I looked down, noticing something moving across the floor, and soon realized that Dalia's large snake, Manasa, was slithering on the floor, weaving its way under the table. Great..now I have to dodge a snake while serving them, things just keep getting better. I slowly rose, walking towards the table as I knew what I had to do. I could feel Kamaris's eyes burning into me since the moment I walked in here, but I refused to look at him.. I would be professional and keep my attitude in check..that was why he sent me to starve in the first place right? To learn some manners. Maybe he saw how pathetic I looked yesterday and some type of remorse made its way past his cold dead heart...if he even has one. I went to Dalia first, knowing she would expect it as I grabbed the wine bottle, not understanding how they could drink the stuff so early in the morning. I began pouring the red liquid into her glass, the sound of her voice making me jump as I almost spilled it all over the table. "My dear, you look positively dreadful." She exclaimed while looking across the table with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Don't you agree Valen?" She asked wryly, looking at the man with blonde hair, prompting his eyes to scan my body as a smirk formed on his lips. "I think she is unlike anything I have ever seen before." He responded sweetly before smiling at me now...and I kid you not, my mouth dropped open as I did a double take..he is talking about me right?! Does he know who he just said that to? My eyes blinked from surprise, his words not only shocking me but Dalia as well. Dalia scoffed before grabbing her wine and bringing it to her lips quickly. Axton just looked at the man with humor, his brown eyes warming as he grabbed Valen's hand before bringing it up to his lips and kissing him. I had never seen Axton be so kind, he was usually scowling or acting bored whenever I had been in his presence. I suddenly realized this must of been Axton's partner, maybe even his mirror soul. I made my way to Kamaris next, my hands swiftly tilting the wine bottle to his glass before pouring smoothly as I tried to get this over with and move on...not wanting any further involvement in this breakfast. "Well, you always did have questionable taste." Dalia muttered while glancing towards Axton, obviously making a dig at her son. Just as I was about to pull away, Kamaris reached out, gripping my wrist tightly as I looked up into those black eyes before swallowing hard. "No greeting for your lord this morning?" He whispered wryly before pulling me down mere inches away from his face. My eyes widened, what did he expect me to do?! Especially here of all places! My heart began to race as I tried so damn hard to remind myself I needed to act submissive and do as he wished. That was the only way to get the hell out of this room. I fluttered my eyelashes, trying to put an innocent look on my face before parting my lips as I spoke softly. "Good morning, my lord." I breathed, staring into him deeply as he watched me intently. I could feel all the attention in the room pointed at me as he inched closer and closer, making the air thick with tension. "Son, can you please let the girl do her job before you start playing with her.." Dalia said with annoyance in her voice, her hand gripping the stem of her glass tightly. "Me playing with her is part of her job.." He stated flatly before letting go of my wrist as he kept his gaze on me. I quickly scurried away, needing to get as far from Kamaris as possible before my body started betraying me once more...I could feel it already as my wrist tingled from where he touched me. I quickly walked over and filled Axton's glass next...trying to distract myself from Kamaris's strong aura. Axton nodded his thanks and looked towards his mother and brother, as they glared at one another.. at least Kamaris was giving his attention to someone else now... I filled Valen's glass, his gaze glancing up towards me as he smiled brightly. I couldn't help but return it, his kindness reaching me as I could feel it was actually genuine for once...I just got that vibe from him right away. "Those earrings are absolutely gorgeous... Where did you get them from?" He asked me curiously before reaching up and moving my wavy hair to the side. I heard a loud gasp, drawing my attention towards Dalia as she shot up from the table and slammed her hands against the surface, startling me. "Where did you get those?" She hissed at me, her eyes full of venom as I glanced over at Kamaris, confusion filling me. "I..in my room.." I stuttered out, realizing maybe Alden grabbed the wrong pair or something...I didn't want to get him in trouble. "I gave them to her." Kamaris stated cooly before taking a slow sip of his wine as his eyes shot to Dalia. "You what?" She spat, her lips curling back into a vicious snarl. Just then I felt Manasa slithering across my feet, the snake's red eyes seeming to stare at me as I tried I remain calm..something inside of me knew I shouldn’t show fear, that the snake would smell it on me. "Take those off right now." She barked, her voice full of rage as her breathing grew ragged. Her perfect persona now cracking and showing the real Dalia. I reached up to take them off with trembling hands. "Amira, no." Kamaris commanded firmly, his eyes darting to me. A warning, if I didn't listen I would pay for it later...my hand dropped instantly. Axton and Valen began whispering between themselves, watching the drama unfold before them. Suddenly Manasa began wrapping around my leg, tightening as Dalia stared at me fiercely...making the snake constrict itself tighter as it slid around me while Dalia took a step forward. "I suggest you listen to me, girl. I have ways of making your life very uncomfortable." She said matter of fact, the snake still climbing my leg as it was now up to my knee. I looked down, meeting those red eyes, my hand instinctively lowering as I reached down, caressing the snake's back..showing no fear as I felt its cool scales beneath me. Kamaris stepped towards me, his arm reaching down and ripping the snake off of me and holding it up in the air, making my eyes widen. "Perhaps you should teach your pet to stop touching things that don't belong to you." Kamaris snapped before fully pulling the snake off of me and tossing it across the room, making the snake his loudly before slithering away. Dalia ran over to it, her eyes wide as she checked Manasa for any signs of injury before standing quickly, her hands clenching into fists. "You dare speak to your own mother like that. Have you lost your mind boy?" Her eyes were wild with her sharp words cutting through the air. Kamaris laughed, his hand reaching up as he pushed my hair back and tucked it behind my ear gently...putting the blue earrings I wore on full display as a shiver trembled through me. "It's funny, you believe these to belong to you, but from what I remember, they are the property of The lord of Darkness. From what father told me, he may give the earrings to whomever he deemed fit to wear them." Kamaris stated cooly, causing Axton to shift in his seat uncontrollably before gripping Valen's hand tighter as if he were bracing himself for something. I didn't know what was going on..my mind was full of confusion and fear as I looked toward Dalia..I knew this wasn't over, she was just getting started..
