WHEN THE ALARM ON HER cell phone went off at 4:30, Brooke jumped, feeling disoriented in the darkness. For a moment, she thought she was in her apartment and reached over to find the lamp on her nightstand, only to encounter a solid wall. Shaking her head, she scooted up and tried to get her bearings.
