Chapter 8 – Introductions Calael squatted on the roof of a warehouse and gazed out across the Chakros River. It was a narrow, brash river, sprung not far away from the mountains to the south. It was full of rocks and froth, and there were no craft upon it. There were no hydroelectric projects that he could see, either. The river didn't seem to be harnessed at all, so why had the city been built there to begin with? Why not down on a coastal plain where the Chakros was wide enough and deep enough to be used for transportation? It was puzzling.
