5: Old Friend

Nora felt that her heart was stopping breathing. Darkness started filling in front of her eyes because her worst nightmare was lying in front of her on the operation table. The man she never wants to meet or see again in her life. But now he is lying here in front of her and is injured. Her hands began to shake as her face was full of sweat-soaked ground.

"I, Carter West, reject you, Nora Morris, as my Mate." The man's words echoed like a hammer in her mind. The operation knife fell from Nora's hand. Nora quickly moves away from the table, puts her palms on her ears, and closes her eyes to stop the voices in her head.

"No. No. Stop it! Please, stop it." She shouted in panic.

Hearing her painful voice, Leo jumps in fear. He turns to Nora and follows her eyes in the direction his gaze falls on the person on the operation table. Seeing him here, he jumped in shock. He finds out what happened to Nora.

“Oh. s**t. Nora..” Leo runs up, grabs her by both shoulders, and calls her.

"Nora!! Nora!! Come back. Nora.." Leo's voice rings through her mind.

Leo shakes Nora and calls her back to back trying to bring her back from her depression. He knows that if she falls into depression again, the situation becomes more serious, which is dangerous for her health.

Suddenly Nora opens her eyes and sees him. Her eyes were deep and empty. Leo feels very sad and scared to see her like this. He sees her in this state when he finds her at the motel that day. And it was frightening for him to see her in the same state again.

She has come back from her depression, but she is not the old Nora he met in the morning. He grabs her lab coat and takes out her medicine. He opened its lid and took a pill. He opened her mouth and put a pill in her mouth. Nora used to take pills without water. So when Leo put the pills in her mouth, she quickly swallowed. Slowly she returned to her normal self.

"Are you okay, Nora?" Leo asks in a worried tone.

She didn't answer him, just blinking her eyes in response.

"Are you feeling well now, Nora?" Leo asked carefully.

"Yes. I'm fine.." Nora nodded her head slowly and took a deep breath to calm down a bit.

"Thank you, Goddess, you're back! You almost killed me, Nora. Now go back to your cabin and rest there. I'll handle everything here, all right." Leo said in a hurried tone. He was still worried that seeing Carter here might give her another panic attack.

"No, I'm doing it," Nora said calmly.

"But." Leo tries to say.

"You're not a heart surgeon, Leo. I'm a heart surgeon here. Now let me do my job. You can help me.." Nora said and took the knife from him.

"Okay. I'm with you." Leo said helplessly. He knows how stubborn Nora is about her profession. He makes sure Nora won't be able to see Carter's face during the operation.

Nora's hand works regularly. Leo assists her and makes sure she is well. Other junior doctors and nurses helped her like they always do. They dare not to ask about Nora's strange behavior because they know about her condition. After six hours, she completed the operation and left the operation room without looking back.

"Doctor, how's my husband?" A young woman came forward and asked Nora.

Nora froze on the spot and looked at her friend Miya standing in front of her with a worried expression on her beautiful face. Miya is a Half-Wolf girl. Miya's mother was a wolf, but her father was a human. Miya and Nora are college friends. Shy, sweet, and innocent, Miya becomes Nora's best friend in a very short time. They always study together, watch movies, and shop together. But Nora didn't think that Miya was the reason Carter rejected her.

Carter is in love with Miya and wants her to be Luna. He already decided he would reject his mate once he found one. So Carter rejected Nora as he decided. But the way Carter did was the worst way that gave Nora a big in her life. Nora is just as angry at Miya as she is mad at Carter. She hates them both destroying her calm life. Nora never wants to see any of them. But after four years, Miya and Carter appeared in front of Nora again. Because of these two people, Nora and Leo have to live like a Rouge, leaving their family behind.

Miya's look has changed a lot. Now she looks rich, beautiful, and a model. Tight-short green dress, short ginger curly short hair with heavy makeup. She always makes a shy, innocent, and caring person face. Right now her face looks sad and worried, but her eyes are telling something else.

Nora never tries to meet Miya after that incident. Nora If she meets Miya, Carter will be with her. Nora doesn't have the strength to face him again. Nora doesn't know if Carter told her about his rejection or not. But today, Miya meets her back.

Other hand, Miya sees Nora, but she never recognizes her because Nora is wearing a hospital gown and a mask on her face.

"The operation is successful. He is out of danger.." Leo stepped forward and said calmly.

Nora sighs with relief seeing Leo come to rescue her in time. She didn’t want to talk to Miya. Leo knows the relationship between the two women is a mess. And Nora doesn't want to meet Miya ever in her life. So he comes forward to help Nora.

Suddenly he turned to the other side as he smelled familiar scents coming from the other side. He saw a man with a calm and serious face staring at Nora for some reason. He is Carter's Beta Jax.

Beta Jax is the tallest, muscular man in the Blue Moon pack and Leo's eldest brother. Carter chose Jax as his beta when he became the Alpha. He wants Leo to be his beta, but Leo has already left the pack and is nowhere to be found. So Carter chose Jax because there is no one stronger than Jax in the pack. He is a clever and great warrior.

"Oh. Thank you, doctor, for saving his life." Miya said in a surprised tone. She never looks sad.

"How's Alpha?" Jax asked, looking at Nora. His nose was smelling the scents in the air.

"This doctor saved Carter, Jax. I'm so happy." Miya said happily.

"Shall we go, doctor?" Ignoring Miya's cheerful tone, Leo asked Nora. He realized that Jax's eyes were staring at Nora differently.

Jax is sniffing in the air, and his eyes are glued to Nora. Leo sees Jax’s eyes slowly turning back and front. It means that his wolf will try to control him. And it's not good for them, especially for Nora. Leo didn’t want any wolf attack on Nora.

"Sure." Nora nods at Leo's point.

Nora also feels that Beta Jax has his eyes on her. She started feeling uncomfortable. She wants to run away from that place and hide in her room.

"Excuse me, doctor. Can I talk to you?" Jax tries to get closer to Nora.

"You can ask me about the patient. My fellow doctor is tired of the long operation. So excuse her.." Leo stops him from standing in front of Nora. And on the other hand, he signals Nora to leave.

Nora nodded and went to her cabin. Jax was disappointed to see her leave like that.

"So! What do you want to know?" Leo turned to him and asked in a professional tone.

"I can smell your scent. You're a wolf, aren't you?" Jax's eyes stare at Leo as he turns to Leo.

"So what? Is it a crime to be a wolf?" Leo asked in an annoying voice.

"Leo! I never thought you were hiding here?" Jax asked suddenly.

"Did you recognize me?" Leo took off his mask and smiled.

"You're my younger brother. How can I not recognize my brother? I'll never forget your scents." Jax smiled softly.

"Glad to know that you still remember your brother," Leo said calmly.

"Leo? It's that you? Oh, My goddess!" Suddenly, Miya's voice interrupts them.

Leo looks at her, and his face changes a little. Miya comes ahead to see him. Leo feels more awkward having to face Miya after a long time. But he can't run away from here.

"How are you, Leo? Wait! Are you the doctor here? Did you save Carter's life? He's your friend. OMG! Leo, thanks for saving his life." Miya talks happily. She looks so excited to meet an old friend.

"You're saying this wrong. I'm not the one who saved him. That was my partner Dr. Morris. She's the one who does the operation and saves his life. She's a good heart surgeon in our hospital. I just tried to help her. So thank her, not me." Leo said in a serious tone.

"Oh! So can you thank her on my behalf? That doctor didn't talk to me when I tried to ask about Carter's condition." Miya said.

"She doesn't like to talk much. Anyway, I have to go back. I need to check on other patients. Your patients will be transferred to the VIP ward. You can visit him when he shifts at the ward. I have to go, excuse me." Leo said professionally and went into Nora's cabin without looking at Jax.

Jax wants to stop him and asks about his life. But soon, Carter was shifted to the VIP room. So he needs to be with Miya because she is alone there.
