Chapter 2

My eyes were glued to Riley's cold eyes as I stared at it for quite a long time. His eyes seemed like a stranger's eyes to me after years of not seeing him. I counldn't sense and familiarity while staring. Seeing his eyes so different, also made him looked unfamiliar. For a second, I wanted to throw myself to him and hug him so tight, but I stopped myself from thinking about it as I remembered what he did before. "Miss Torrano, it was really nice meeting you again," bigla namang sabi ni Atty. He wad looking at me while wearing his wide smile. "It's nice seeing you wearing a casual clothes than your pajamas," biro niya at bahagya pa siyang natawa. I swear! I must be turning red right now because of embarrastment. "But don't get me wrong!" pahabol niya. "You looked cute in your pajamas, it's just that... it's refreshing to see you wearing something nice." "Attorney, she's here to settle her parent's debts and not to receive compliment," Riley suddenly butt in. "Oh, right!" Atty. Rojas exclaimed and smiled at me before he offered the sofa where I was sleeping awhile ago. "Take a seat, Ms. Torrano. Mr. Palermo will discuss to you the last option we can offer." "Uhm, thank you po, Attorney," nahihiya kong pasalamat at saka dahan-dahang umupo sa sofa. I was aware that he was just right in front where I sat—and that was exactly why I just looked at Atty. Rojas instead of looking straight. "Ms. Torrano, Mr. Riley Palermo here is the eldest child of Norma and Ronald Palermo. He is the current President of The Seacoast.," Atty. Rojas introduced me to Riley like I had no idea who he was. He didn't have to, though. I already knew that man. I knew him even to the depths of his soul. He didn't need to waste his saliva for an introduction of an asshole like him. He could just point him using his middle finger. "Mr. Palermo, you can now discuss the last option to Ms..Torrano," sabi naman ni Atty. "How can I speak to someone who's not even look at me?" parinig niya. "Oh! I don't know why he seems so mad at me. "You can leave now, Atty. Rojas," utos ni Riley kay Atty. Rojas. He turned to look at me and smiled. "I'll be waiting outside to escort you home after, Ms. Torrano," he told me before going out of the office. However, I just really couldn't stand being in the same room with him. He smirked on what I had just said and laid back on his chair. "Things to do like what Ms. Torrano?" He mocked me with his question. "As far as I know, you don't have a job. "Well, that's why I'm offering you this third option which will surely benefit you." "I'm offering you a job here in The Seacoast as one of the housekeepers," he said. "But if I call your service, you'll also be serving me directly. Two jobs at a time. It means your paycheck will be doubled." "If you will read the agreement that I did, you will only work here for five years," je explained. "After five years, you're free. You don't have to pay the remaining amount or honestly, you don't have to pay anything using money. If you want to pay your family's depts in an easier way, this is the option to choose." "Do you have any problem with my proposition?" he asked. "It just doesn't seem right." "The other two option required mw to pay the debt using money or even giving our land as a p*****t," sabi ko. "Of course, we will still assume that you have the money to pay the debts, and we also have to follow the law in which we need to go after your estate. We don't need money and property, Ms. Torrano. Marami kami niyan," he said and leaned on his desk. He used to be so humble and unpretentious. He was also sweet and caring. But then, he turned out to be a different person. He became arrogant. He's not the Riley I loved before. Or maybe, this is the real him. I just didn't know because I was too in love with him to notice. Maybe I was too blind to see the real him. His jaw clenched, but he didn't answer my question. "So..." He trailed and walked towards me. He leaned closer that I moved my head backwards to avoid being so close to him. He grinned at my reaction. "Which among the three options will you pick?" paghamon niya sa akin at nakataas pa ang kanyang kilay. Kumukulo ang dugo ko sa pang-iinis niya. He already knew what I wanted to pick. And I hated that because I knew I was really inferior to him. I knew that I had no choice but to give in to gos conditions if I didn't want to give them our land. "I'll pick the third option," I decided with my head up high. "All you have to do is sign the papers in front of you," he said. "But I also have conditions," dagdag ko bago ang lahat. He blinked up to me, his grid widened. "You're making me laugh Ms. Toranno," sabi niya. I smile shamelessly. "The conditions are also for your family," I assured him. "I won't state a condition that will benefit myself." "Then go and state your conditions. I will listen to it," hamon niya sa akin. Muli siyang sumandal sa kanyang table at saka humalukipkip. His bored eyes stared at me while waiting for me to speak. "Keep my wages. "I don't care of it takes forever to pay that amount but I'll assure you that I will. "I'm already making your life easier but you're making it harder for yourseld, Nathen," he stated and my heart wavered the moment my name escaped from his mouth. "Ginagawa ko 'to dahil papaano'y may pinagsamahan tayong dalawa noon. It's a way of thanking you for being a part of my life, even though our relationship didn't end on a good note." "And I'm doing this because I don't to receive any pity from you. You're just a mere memory to me. You're just a blurred image that exist in my mind." "It's nice meeting you again, Mr. Palermo," I said without batting an eye. "I'll come back once the revised contract is done. Thank you for being considerate enough. Have a good day."
