Chapter 6
Sophia’s P.O.V
The next day I woke up and got ready for school straight away. I got dressed and went down to the kitchen, grabbing a muffin before leaving the pack house and getting into my car, driving to school. When I got there I couldn’t focus on any of my classes because the only thing on my mind was Casey. I wanted to see her, to talk to her and see what she remembers or if she even remembers anything about me. I know it was a long shot because from what my parents had told me the witch who cast the spell, Nila, was an extremely powerful witch, but maybe she could break the spell as well, seeing as it was her spell. After school had finally finished I drove straight home and walked into the pack house. I could hear my parents in the kitchen, so I went straight there and hugged my dad before hugging my mom.
“So, what's for dinner or are we going to order pizza and watch movies? It is family night, so mom takes the night off cooking.” I asked and they both started laughing. At first I didn’t like either of my real parents, but after the initial shock of them suddenly turning up and getting to know them better I loved them with all my heart. The one thing I could never deny was how beautiful my mom was. She had a smile that lit up her bright green eyes and her red hair always looked like flames from a fire.
“Actually sweetie, your dad wants to talk to you about something, but you should sit down.” My mom said, making me feel slightly worried. Oh okay, am I in trouble, I thought to myself and walked over to the island, sitting down on the stool next to my dad. My dad smiled at me and he always had such a wonderful, calming smile, his eyes were a muddy brown and he had short black hair.
“What's going on? Am I in trouble?” I asked, but heard my dad chuckle and that instantly made me worry less.
“No sweetie, you're not in any trouble, but I did look up that witch, Nila, the one that cleaned Casey’s mind and I’m afraid she is no longer around. She died about three years ago of old age, but she did leave you a letter. Her sister gave it to me and said that she knew there would come a time when you would want to look for Casey, so she wrote it all in this letter.” My dad replied, handing me a folded piece of paper. I took it and opened it up to read what she had said.
Dear Sophia,
I know you are wondering why I am writing to you, but I knew that there would come a time that you would want Casey to remember you. I am truly sorry to have to tell you this, but if I’m not around she won’t be able to. I do however have something else to tell you that may help, Casey’s parents, Susan and Micheal put a photo of you and your parents with them in a jam jar. She didn’t think I had seen her do this, but I had and kept quiet. If she finds the picture then I am sure she will be looking for you and to answer your next question, no, she still wouldn’t remember you from seeing the photo. I promise she will be looking for you, so until we meet again, Sophia, stay true to yourself.
Nila.
I read the letter a few more times, then folded it back up and placed it in my pocket. I wasn’t happy with the news, but I was happy that she at least was looking for me and had a picture of me, so that was something at least.
“So, what did it say?” My mom asked, making me sigh.
“It said that she knew Casey’s parents had kept a photo of us and put it in a jar, that if Casey found it then she would be sure to be looking for me, but how will she find it? Has she already found it? Is she looking for me right now? If she is, why hasn't she come here yet?” I replied, sighing. My dad hugged me as my mom walked over and ran her hand up and down my back, trying to sooth me.
“Honey, she might not have found the jar yet, give it some time. Don’t give up, you have to remember that she might be a little confused. Just wait a few days and if you don’t hear anything then we’ll go to her. You can’t make her remember, but maybe with time she will.” My dad said, trying to comfort me.
“I know I can't make her remember and I’m not going to rush her either, she has already been through so much and I don't want to be another burden she has to take on. Maybe it's good that she hasn't found it, it's probably better this way, but it doesn't mean I can’t still check up on her from time to time, just to make sure she's safe.” I replied and my mom gave me one of her beautiful smiles.
“No, there's no harm in that at all, sweetie. I know you want to get to know her, but it's going to be okay, sweetie, I promise.” My mom said and I nodded.
Mark’s (Sophia’s dad) P.O.V
“I’m going to go up and study. Let me know when the pizza is here, okay.” Sophia said, sighing as she walked out of the kitchen and upstairs to her room.
“Do you think she will ever give up on Casey?” Bonnie asked and I immediately shook my head.
“I honestly don’t know, but we both know that when she has something on her mind she will stop at nothing until it's sorted. You know she will do it whether we like it or not, but I don’t see a problem with her seeing and talking to Casey, I just don’t want her to get hurt.” I replied, but Bonnie just shrugged, neither agreeing or disagreeing with me. Maybe she was just upset over the fact that Sophia had another set of parents for a short time and Sophia still remembers and loves them. I know it hurts her to think of them as her parents, but I was just grateful that they took her in and looked after her.
