These People Can't be Real

708 Words
Lenora’s POV Nothing they were saying was making sense, who was being called? Why was it scaring them? Who exactly were these people? But the questions would have to wait. I felt myself getting tired, his scent was too comforting. “Shh, it’s okay princess,” Vlad whispered, as if sensing me wanting to drift off. “I don’t know you all,” I contested, knowing how dangerous it was to let myself be so vulnerable with strangers. “I’m Vlad, the girl is Minnie and the other is Theo, we are all siblings. We own this shop and we all go to Madison High School together.” He responded, understanding the fear. “I’m having Theo call our brother Zade, he will be able to help your back. I will clean up your knee and your hand.” He tried to give a gentle run down on what was about to happen. “Sleep now.” “You all seemed to not like Zade,” I mumbled, already feeling more comfortable with the situation so my eyes grew heavier. Which still didn’t make sense in my head but it felt right. This was dangerous. “It’s not that we don’t like him, he is our brother,” Vlad began to explain before shifting my weight to open a door. “He is the leader, but his choice … we just couldn’t agree with so we left.” I felt him place me on something soft; it was like a cloud. I could hear him rummaging through something before the scent of jasmine and lavender filled my nose. “Vlad?” Theo called out. “I’m here,” he replied. Vlad began to clean and bandage the wounds on me carefully, the pain of the disinfectant didn’t bother me. I always found it nice if I’m honest. A crackling noise pounded in my ears and dissipated quickly before the deepest voice I had ever heard, “So this is where you all have been choosing to hide from me.” His voice reeked with authority. The scent of black cardamom and smoky vanilla engulfed me like a fresh towel out of the dryer after a cold shower. “Why do y’all smell like that?” I breathed out trying to ignore the overwhelming pressure of the new person who just came into the room. Their scent combining from being together in the same room almost overwhelmed my senses. I heard a chuckle from Vlad, “it’s just who we are, princess.” “What do we smell like darling?” Theo asked, I could feel the smirk on his face. I wanted to roll my eyes. “Vlad is like cedar and chamomile tea, you are like Lavender and Jasmine, and whoever just came in like vanilla and cardamom,” I smiled softly. The scents were ethereal, I could just let them lull me to sleep as is. My back pain had eased up for the most part. “Zade,” the man told me his name. I felt his presence as he came up to the side of whatever I was on, his presence was heavy. It was so powerful and demanding. I chuckled thinking about their names and how fantastical they all sounded. “What are you laughing about?” “Your names,” I admitted. “They sound like a story book.” Not just their names though, the way they looked, how they carried themselves and just overall these people didn't seem real. “And what is yours?” Zade questioned. I wanted to see how he looked, to see if he also looked like his brothers, but there wasn’t much fight I could put up. “Lenora,” I replied, struggling to open my eyes, still wanting to see. “Just sleep Lenora, you’ll feel better when you wake up,” Zade whispered softly into my ear. I let my mind drift, trusting that the four people that I had only just met wouldn’t do anything that could harm me. This day felt strange enough and I had too much to think about that I just wanted to shut down and relax. Sleep overtook me without effort once I stopped fighting against it.
