Lenora’s POV
I drove to the school in the jeep wrangler my dad had left me in his will. It was the car he taught me to work on, he was adamant that I be self reliant so I wouldn’t be impressed with just any boy who would fix a car. I chuckled remembering his face when I told him I thought I might have a crush on the little neighbor boy. That was the weekend he started teaching me all sorts of things.
The rain softly pelted the metal roof of the vehicle, melting away outside noise. The question now was whether or not to get coffee before dealing with people. It wasn’t a hard question, deciding to get coffee. I pulled into a local shop that I had seen a few times and wanted to try. The rain was getting a tad heavier as I made my way into the shop.
The smell of freshly roasted coffee beans hit my nose like a truck trying to find its next isekai victim. The shop had a cute vibe going for it. It had books lacing the walls begging to be read and plants everywhere. I stepped up to the counter eyeing a few pastries, before a soft “ahem,” came out to get my attention. I looked up and found a pair of silver eyes staring at me intently.
How could a person be that beautiful? I saw him standing 6’5” with midnight black hair that looked purposely messy in a half bun. He had earrings on that looked like black studs, and a white button down shirt that was clearly tailored to him and a black apron that cinched his waist.
I could feel the burning gaze of the man behind the counter as I quickly looked up at the menu. His gaze was like he was searching for something in me, maybe he had seen me in town and was trying to figure out if we had ever met. It was odd to be starred at so intently, I wish I could say it was enjoyable but it felt almost like an animal looking at its prey.
“What can I get for you darling?” He asked, his voice was deep and melodic.
“I’ll just take a hibiscus pomegranate refresher,” I finally looked at him trying to keep myself together. He looked young physically, but his eyes looked so old. I reached for my back pocket. “s**t, I forgot my wallet in my jeep, I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll start it and ring you up afterwards,” he gave me a nod and left the counter.
I hurried out to my jeep, gods damn it I can’t believe I forgot it. Pulling open my passenger door I hurried reaching over to the console to grab my wallet as it began to rain harder. I shut the door and tried to hurry back to the shop. I tripped on the concrete lip, and fell onto the cold wet asphalt. “Damn it,” I groaned, my back aching as the muscle constricted around the barley healing bones. I carefully flipped on to my bottom to assess any damage.
I found my tights had split and my knee was cut open pretty badly from a piece of glass that had been on the ground and my palm was bruised from trying to catch myself on the edge of the sidewalk. Just great, what an omen.
“Are you okay?” A sweet voice asked, a young woman hurried over to me. She had deep red hair that fell down to her waist and the most beautiful jade eyes. She was standing 5’8” with tightly hugging pastel clothes. She looked like a Barbie, so beautiful and perfect.
“Ugh yeah,” I sighed.
“Hold on one second love,” she closed her eyes and quickly opened them a few seconds later.
Love? She doesn’t know me and is calling me love. What a cute woman.
“What are you whinny about Minnie?” I heard an annoyed deep voice push open the door. I turned to look at the man and it was like a copy of the man who helped me with my order except his hair was shorter and looked wet as if he just finished showering and his body type was more lean. He was in a black button down and jeans with black boots. “And what do we have here?”
“She is hurt, can you help her inside?” The woman named Minnie asked, though it sounded more like an order.
“She is…” He paused before shaking his head as if ignoring his thought and kneeled down. “I’m going to pick you up princess.”
Darling, Love, Princess. What is with these people?! I wanted to tell them all they were crazy, but with my back spasming I couldn’t refuse to help.
I gave him a nod and shifted so he could have a better angle. His arms wrapped around my back and under my knees carefully. I leaned into him instinctively, his smell was that of cedar and chamomile tea. As he lifted me, pain shot through my back and I winced as he moved forward. “Where does it hurt the most?” Minnie asked.
“M…My back…” I tried to hold the tears back. “Be careful Vlad,” Minnie held open the door for us.
“I’ve got you princess, just try and take deep breaths and relax into me,” Vlad whispered.
The pain was bearable but only kind of. I did as told and breathed counting into five, holding five and out to five. “What the f**k happened?!” the man from earlier growled seeing us come in.
“I’m taking her upstairs,” Vlad stated. “I’m calling him.”
“Is that worth it? We just settled here, he’ll want us all to go back…” Minnie sighed.
“She is in pain,” Vlad whispered looking down at me, as I kept trying to calm myself the pain was rippling through me. “Theo you call him, I’m going to tend to her knee and palm.”
“Vlad…” Theo sighed. “You’re right.”
