The creature now standing in front of us was not Lana. As her skin continued to peel off her face, we just stood there and watched.
"Run," I shouted. We all dashed to the hall and ran downstairs.
"What's wrong," Father Romero asked. I didn't have enough time to answer because Lana was right on our tail. She caused all of the brave wolves downstairs to shout like babies. As she leaped off the stairs, father Romero jumped in front of us and blocked her attack. He began to chant and a blue light burst out of nowhere.
"She won't be able to move but it won't last forever, "Father Romero said.
"Do you know what she is," Mason asked.
"She is a witch," Father Romero said. "This is some kind of curse. Isn't that right?" He was looking straight at Lana.
"She can still hear you and speak?" I asked.
"Yes, now answer me," Father Romero said harshly.
"She did this, our coven leader. She is the one who started all of this centuries ago. We didn't want any part of it. She wants to punish her old lover who left her but she wasn't strong enough to make him pay completely," Lana explained. "She wants everyone to pay. She cursed all of us to turn into hideous creatures because at first, we didn't want anything to do with her plan."
"She used revenge magic," Father Romero questioned.
"Does that mean something," Mason said.
"It is rare to hear of witches battling each other unlike wolves and vampires fight amongst each other for food, territory, or power. Witches never had anything to fight over but I guess love and loss make you do things you normally wouldn't do," father Romero explained.
"So there is only one witch we really have to worry about and the rest will back off," I said.
"Yes, no one else wants this to go on," Lana said. "Every time we get discovered and our kind die because of it, she always lives and starts her plan all over again. We are tired of it and just want to be at peace."
"And so you shall be," Father Romero said. He began to chant again. A white light soon appeared and Lana slowly disappeared. It was weird, it almost looked like she was smiling as she vanished.
"Alpha Crawford," Alpha Ricardo called out.
"I'm fine, it's like all those memories we shared make no sense now," he said. "Wow, how could she make me feel like."
"Are you sure your okay?" Nicole asked him. He looked deep into her eyes.
"You never look me in the eyes, Nicole," he said.
"I," she tried to speak but before she could say another word he put his lips on hers. I smiled and his packed cheered.
"How could I have missed these amazing blue eyes," he said. "Oh, Nicole." She smiled but slowly began to cry.
"Thannk you," she stuttered as she thanked me. As I looked at these two I realized what and where I need to be.
"I'm going home," I said.
"You sure," Mason questioned.
"Hell yeah, I am going to kill that b***h that has my brother under her spell and I'm getting my man back." Everyone in our group smiled and we headed back to the jeep.
In about 24 hrs I would see James again. We have enough information to get all of this done and over with. We started to drive back and I decided to drive first. I wanted to get there fast so I knew I would hold nothing back in getting there. Mason and Ricardo were sleeping and Father Romero was sitting next to me just meditating. My thoughts were all about James and how happy I was going to be when I kissed him and held him. Suddenly, there was a group of witches standing in the road and I was all too willing to run them over but their eyes were focused and then our jeep flipped over. My head went blank and I felt pain on my head and my back. I heard bones break and I knew someone had shifted. I then heard growls and howls immediately followed by screams. I finally got enough strength to open my eyes and as I looked up I saw father Romero standing in front of me. His eyes were red and his face looked a bit demonic and deformed. He opened his mouth and revealed sharp fangs. He took his fingers that now had sharp nails and touched my forehead.
"Blood," he whispered. He licked the blood off of his fingers and his eyes started to go black. "This is my curse." He leaned back and then plunged his sharp fangs into my neck. I couldn't scream and I couldn't move.
"It tastes so warm and rich," he said. My mind was going blank and my body felt numb. As my eyes began to close I felt his arms go under me and he wrapped me up in his warm embrace.
"I am so sorry," he whispered. I passed out.
When I finally came to, I noticed all the witches were dead.
"So someone knows we are coming?" Mason said.
"You okay?" Ricardo asked.
"Yeah, I am a bit tired," I said.
"There was a motel close by," Mason said.
"No, I want to go home," I told everyone. I looked at father Romero and he looked at me back. "I'm good. Let's go."
"Alright, so you can get there alright," Mason asked father Romero.
"Yes, I will be close behind," he answered. We all shifted and ran towards my territory. My mind was only consumed with thoughts of James. I knew what had just happened between father Romero and me was just an accident. I knew he was a half breed. He told me he was not just a witch but I had never seen his vampire side. It shocked me and at that moment it scared me but he was still an ally and he said it was a curse. So something tells me he is just trying to find some sort of peace like Lana. If there was anything I could do to help my new friend then I would. Somehow this seemed to be something he needs to see through. After chasing these witches for so long he needed to end this once and for all. And I needed to see James.
