I didn’t want this.

It felt like I had sold myself to the devil to get the best treatment. I was supposed to hate him for everything he had done, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him even after the stupid tricks he tried to play.

He almost made me strip in front of him, and if he had not been smart, then I wouldn’t realized that I was about to play right into tricks. Thank goodness, I remembered my dignity and didn’t let him treat me as if I didn’t mean anything. I was the princess, for crying out loud, and I could never subject myself to something as low as that.

Now, he was playing another trick again. Not only did he move everyone to a different building, but he also prepared a feast for us. I still couldn’t understand why he was doing all of that. When he ordered me to be sent back to the dungeon, I suspected that he was up to something because there was no way that he would have let me go that easily without having prior motives.

I noticed that Maverick was giving me side eyes and wanting to talk to me, but food came first, and I had to eat before I had the energy to talk to him. I had hoped that he would understand because I was still trying to figure out what he was trying to do.

"I knew it!" Rebecca exclaimed, clapping her hands as she approached me. She took her seat beside Maria and signed.

"What do you mean?" Maria asked, raising her head from her food to stare at her.

Whatever Rebeca had come there for was something to infuriate me.

"I knew you slept with the king, and that's why he's doing this,’’ Rebecca accused falsely, and I frowned at her choice of words.

How could she even think about me falling for the man who had killed my father? No matter how much I craved a man, I could never look at Voridian that way because I hated him. I couldn’t even bring myself to strip in front of me, and I wouldn’t deny that I felt attracted to him. I kept reminding myself that whatever it was had to stop.

‘’Have you gone insane!’’Maverick shouted at her and dropped the spoon in his hand. ‘’There Is no way the princess could have done that, and why the hell are you talking to her like that.’’

Rebecca chuckled and crossed her arms. "Are you still going on about this princess thing?" she asked, sighing. "I've already told you that being a princess here will not work, and you should give up on your dreams. You can never hold your princess title here, and the only way you could have done that is by sleeping with the king, which is why he allowed you to be here, right? That is why you spent the night outside the dungeon and disappeared yesterday! Something is going on with you!’’

Maverick turned towards me as if he were doubting me, too, and then I saw the curious look on his face. He looked like he was about to question me, but he stopped himself immediately and looked away.

I heaved a deep sigh and looked at Rebecca, thinking of what I could tell her. She had just pissed me off by saying things that I didn’t want to hear. Even though she was not entirely wrong, I didn’t like how she was belittling me in front of everyone. "If it bothers you so much,’’ I paused to drop the fork in my hand. ‘’ why don't you talk to the king and tell him how you feel instead of accusing me of something that isn’t true!’’

"You think so?" Rebecca shot back. "You think I'm just ranting, but deep down, Elowen knows I'm telling the truth. She slept with the king!" she shouted, attracting the attention of everyone. I felt the sound of spoons against the plates stop immediately, and all eyes turned towards us.

"I told you back in the cell that the princess meant something to the king. I don't know what that is yet, but it's the truth." I heard someone whisper behind me.

‘’Maybe she is telling the truth. Why else would the alpha king bring us here and give us food?’’

"Don't say things you don't know, Phaedra," Maria shouted at the girl behind us. "The king doesn't have feelings for humans, and no, our princess will never do that.’’

"The truth hurts!" Rebecca laughed. ‘’The alpha king will never do anything without trying to gain from it.’’

"What is wrong with you?" Maria rushed to attack Rebecca. I stopped her and pulled her away from Rebecca. "Let me go! I need to make this fool understand!" she shouted. "How can she talk to her princess like that? "

"If you keep acting like this, we'll all end up locked up again. I can settle this,’’ I promised her and returned to Rebecca. ‘’I am not sure where you get your stories from, but the alpha king and I have nothing going on! He killed my father and destroyed our homes. I will be betraying everyone if I do that.’’ I shouted, reminding everyone about who the alpha king truly was, hoping to change their narratives about me, and him. ‘’stop spreading rumors!’’ I warned her and sat down to continue eating.

The other humans agreed and returned to eating their food. I had barely taken two spoons of a meal when I heard loud footsteps heading towards me. When I raised my head, I realized that one of the guards was standing behind me.

‘’The alpha king had ordered that the human princess be brought to him at once.’’ He announced, and all eyes turned towards me again.

Just when I had thought that I had changed everyone’s thinking about the alpha king, he had requested for me again.

‘’I told you all,’’ Rebecca shouted as if she had been waiting to say it all along.

I heaved a deep sigh, clenched my fists, and then slammed them hard on the table, thinking about what the alpha king wanted with me again.

What could he be planning again?
