I sit with a glass of bourbon and the landline ringing against"Misa speaking." She calls down the phone.
"Hey. It's Nina." I say relieved to hear her voice.
"Hey. When are you coming home?" She asks sounding as desperate as I feel.
"I'll be back in time for Wednesday dinner." I say grumpily at the fact that it's so far away.
"Ugh. That's so long."
"I know. I miss you guys. What's happening?" I ask feeling better just by thinking about home.
"Well we've got a doctors appointment on Tuesday to see if we're pregnant or not." She says and I can tell she's worried. Her and Kendrick have been trying for a baby and because of all the false pregnancy test positives, she goes in for a blood test every month.
"And I'm gonna miss it. You have to call me so I can hear everything okay?" My heart breaks at that. I've been with her for every appointment and heartache and now I might miss the announcement of a positive.
"You better believe I'm phoning you. I need you. How are things going there?"
"Really badly. I'm officially mated now and he's gonna come live with us. You're going to love him. But I was shouting at Alpha Cohen earlier because he insulted KC. I also told Oliver I was married and we haven't spoken since because I've been so mad." I vent to her.
"That sucks. I'm sorry you have to face the wolves alone." We both laugh at her pun. "I wish I could've been there with you. Actually I wish you never had to leave."
"Me too. But I promised a week and so far I cannot wait to get home." I hear a soft knock at the door. "I'm sorry but I have to go. Tell Kendrick and JayJay I say hi. I'll call tomorrow. Love you lots."
"Love you too." She says before we both hang up.
"Coming." I say and walk towards the door. I open the door to see Kade.
"Hey." He mumbles almost nervously.
"Hey." I say with a confused but silly look on my face.
"You have to stay." He commands in a pleading way.
"What?" He didn't just say that did he?
"I need you. You can't leave me again. You're my person. I just…" he sighs and runs his hand through his hair. "You have to stay."
"I'll take that into consideration for my choice." I don't know what more to say without giving away that I plan to go. He looks me in the eyes. He can read me like an open book.
"You've already made you choice. I just thought I should let you know, in case." He nods once before walking away. For the first time in our relationship I don't know what to do to make it better. I bang my head against the door frame. f**k me.
~ I knock softly on Olivers office door. I just need to be close to him right now.
"Come in." I hear his soft voice. I c***k the door open and slip inside.
"I know you're probably upset with me but I really need you." I say softly.
"I'm not upset." He motions for me to go towards him. When I reach his desk he pulls me to sit on his lap. I lean my head on his chest and sigh deeply. "Oh darling. Listen I'm not upset that you got married. Things were messy when you left. Honestly I'm happy that you had someone to love you when I couldn't. I'm sorry about what my dad said earlier and I'm sorry that you lost him that way. I just, I don't want to fight." He looks at me with those beautiful storm cloud eyes.
"I don't want to fight either. I'm sorry I left in such a huff earlier. I was just so angry about having to defend KC." I begin to explain.
"You shouldn't have had to defend him." He shakes his head and squeezes me. I melt into the much needed contact with him. I absentmindedly play with my pendant.
"Feeling home sick?" He looks down at me concerned.
"Little bit but I'll be okay. Do you wanna let the wolves go for a run?" I smile mischievously at him. He grins back and swoops me up so we can head downstairs to go for a run down the beach.
