Chapter 7- Training

1017 Words
Yama Days have passed and Yama already got used to the situation she is in. Leni has briefed her regarding the flow at Rox’s house. Leni also spells me some gossip about Rox's past. She came to know that he was a widow. His late wife died 10 years ago with their unborn child. She feels sad upon hearing it. In Yama’s mind, Rox must love his wife dearly; still harboring the pain of losing them, and hasn’t moved on until now. Maybe that’s the reason why he remains single up to this age. There were rumors that he dated different girls but nothing serious. She is the first one to step into his house. At least she has no relationship to ruin only hers. From time to time John’s image and memories still hunt Yama. It made her broken and cry hard, questioning how they ended up this way. The years of being together, from childhood sweethearts, neighbors and being friends for a long time means nothing. The training has finally started. Yama came to know that Vera was a friend of Rox and introduced her as his girlfriend. At first glance, she notices that Vera is a woman of high status. They introduce each other. Vera asked her some personal questions. She wants to know how can she help her, how can she improve her personality and what to work on. "We'll start from the basics. I will teach you how to dress yourself to look good, glamorous, and sophisticated including using makeup. How to walk in the crowd, captivating everyone's attention. Rox needs someone who could also bring him a good image because it will carry his name.” Yama nods at Vera as she starts briefing her about the training. "Will teach you how to handle yourself under pressure and how to carry a conversation when you're talking to someone. You have to be articulate and know how to answer interestingly. You should learn how to brace yourself. It's part of your job as his secretary and companion." Yama just listened carefully and tried to absorb what Vera had told her. "Simple table etiquette is important. You must know how to use all the utensils according to their uses. That’s one thing people look at you to see if you belong to their class. You should be mindful of your actions." "Proper posture all the time even if you feel numb. You have to look seductive when you are in front of everyone.” Yama was gasping in all the information but she tried to remember everything and take a note. ‘You have to learn how to control your emotions even when you’re about to cry and want to lose it. Because in this world, there are people who will try to put you down and have no breeding. One wrong move will ruin Rox's name and he doesn't like it." Yama now realizes the difference between Rox from before and now. Has she misinterpreted Rox? The man she knows is easy to be with but Vera says otherwise. “I'll tell you some of his do's and don’ts because you may not know it yet, he's a different person when it comes to work and business. That's what you have to learn." She just nods again but feels dizzy. "I see how you struggle with all I'm saying. One thing you should learn is never to show anyone your emotions. Learn to mask it and practice the art of no emotion and pretending. It’s not easy to tangle with Rox.” Vera reminded her. "I have so much to learn. Do you think I can do it?" Yama said it in a problematic way. "Do you have a choice?" Vera rebutted in an instant. Yama paused for a bit. Yeah, she doesn’t have a choice, it's like he had to whether she likes it or not. "Take a deep breath and relax yourself. Think of this as for your own good. Who knows, this is your ticket to success and stardom. This is a one-time opportunity and you are lucky to have this opportunity, am I right?" Then they slowly put into action all Vera had discussed. "Good job you learn fast." Yam felt happy upon Vera’s compliment. "Now we have to practice how to walk properly like a model but a subtle one. You have to create a strong confident walk but in a way of letting everyone recognize your presence, enticing them to look at you. Observe me and follow later." She observes her seriously. "Put yourself in a comfortable position, your facial expressions exude confidence. Keep your mouth closed, if you smile just a little. Keep your eyes focused ahead of you. Stand up straight, and keep your shoulder slightly aback. Place one in front of the other and walk with long strides. Allow your arms to hang at your side and keep your hands relaxed. Let your arms hand swing only slightly. This will look cool and compose as you walk. Practice walking it with heels. Remember it's all in the attitude." Yam does it according to Vera’s instructions, she failed many times but has recovered. The days ended and she felt exhausted. Rox came during dinner. They ate in silence. Her mind still drifted to the lesson, she was focused without knowing she slowly applied what she had learned about table etiquette. “Hmm. You don’t need to do it all at once. Little by little you will get used to it. Just remember when you’re at the table, you will also pay attention to the one you're with.” Rox says with a little smile, first time she sees after she comes into the house. “I’m sorry, haven’t realized it, just wanted to do it perfectly.” “It's okay you have done your best and I think you're doing great so far.” One thing she observes, Rox is serious and doesn’t talk much only if he needs something. Vera is right if I do this right, this is my gateway to success.
