Chapter6- Jobs

1340 Words
Yama Yama was in a trance thinking of the past when Rox asked her to go down for dinner. Leni escorted her to the dining area. If not with her, she might be lost in the big mansion. He found Rox waiting for her at the table. Yama sat in front of Rox. The food was ready. “Let us eat;” signaled by Rox, but was caught off guard upon seeing the different setting of the table. She didn’t know which appropriate utensil she would use. It was way different from what she used to. He looks at Rox who is comfortably eating using those utensils. “What’s wrong?” Rox asks, maybe he senses her uneasiness and just by looking, he knows her trouble. “Just eat the way you want, never mind the table etiquette. This is for formal dining. Somebody will teach you soon everything you need to learn. But for now, do what makes you comfortable.” Says Rox then resumes eating without a noise. Yama did as she told. They ate in silence. The table was full of food that looked appetizing, but she was not enjoying it. It felt like they were at a funeral rather than eating a meal. In Yama’s mind, rich people are boring to eat with. The way she grew up, dinner time was family time. They talked and enjoyed the meal even though the food wasn’t enough. After she finishes eating, Rox asks her to meet at his office. “I know you have a lot of questions to ask. I’ll give you time to ask everything you want to know.” He said it seriously. “So, this is the real him that she didn't know. A straightforward type and intimidating,” Yama thought. She braces herself. In this place, she has no one to lean on but herself. She needs to be strong and thankful, Rox brought this up. ‘Why did you buy me from him? What are your reasons? We know for a fact that I'm not the one you need. “She has to know everything to do her job correctly. She already set her mind that what she’s about to do is work. It will be easier to accept that way rather than thinking she’s selling herself to someone. “I bought you because I wanted to help you. I know you have plans but you can’t do it now given your situation and time is running.” Yama frowned upon hearing what he said. She couldn’t understand what he got out of helping her. “And you are still young. At your age, you’re supposed to be exploring your capabilities, planning your future, exploring places, learning things, enjoying what life has to offer, and most of all enjoying your youth. You shouldn’t be stuck and imprison yourself in a miserable life.” Yama almost appreciated him for the things he said but when he heard the last phrase, she couldn’t help but feel angry. “How can you say I am living a miserable life? You don’t know me, Mr. Wilford.” She blurted it out loud, didn’t care if he offended him by rebutting. “I am just telling you the truth. When you have so much dream and you know it's possible but for some reason you can’t, it’s frustrating. You will live with regret once that opportunity is gone.” Yama knows he is stating a fact. “Mr. Wilford, I appreciate your concerns but all you have said were for my benefit. What can you gain out of it?” Yama said it in a challenging tone. She couldn't see the point of why he did this. “I have my reasons why I'm taking you with me but I prefer not to tell you yet. In time you will know and understand my actions.” Yama nods. “May I know the scope of my responsibility? May I know what you expected me to be? I want you to be honest with me so I know where to stand and where I should be. You have spent a huge amount and I don’t believe you didn't expect in return. No man will do that, especially to a woman he hasn’t had a connection with.” Yama wants to be straight with him, so she knows what to do and how she plans her life after this. “You are right, I need you in my life. With my status in society, I need someone to accompany me in business and personal matters. You will go with me to attend social gatherings, meetings, and sometimes for leisure. Instead of paying an escort to accompany me, you have to fill that spot. You will act as my confidant, secretary, and companion at the same time my woman to fulfill the pleasure I need.” So, she is an all-in-one for the role. She thought she only served him as his bed partner. “Mr. Wilford you know that I am lacking in education. I only finished high school and have less experience. How could I fulfill the task you ask when I'm not capable? You might become a laughing stock by others if I can’t comply with the requirements you need.” “Call me Rox beginning tonight. I know all your concerns that’s why you will undergo training. I have someone to coach you in all the things you need to learn. The training is about personality development, improving your speaking, and dressing up, how to manage and talk to a client, and handling different people as you will be with me most of the time. You will be the front of my business.” She suddenly feels overwhelmed with all the things she needs to do and the weight of responsibility she has to take. “Rox, that’s a big responsibility and I am not sure if I can do it the way you expected.” Her tone shows lacking in confidence. “I know and I have trust in you. You can only do this if you are interested and willing to adapt to the changes. My offers only stand once and it is a lifetime opportunity for you. You can use this in your future endeavors when our contract ends. You will be exposed to different kinds of experience as you will be working closely with me. You will see first-hand how I work, and how most businesses work.” He is right, after their contract, she will have a good future. The training itself will equip her with all the things she needs to learn. “You will be paid according to the job done. You will get the money once our contract is finished. No need to worry about your financial needs as I'll give you my card to buy things and send money to your parents or for emergencies.” Yama was shocked because she didn’t expect anything. “I still get something? I thought I was here as p*****t for the money John had gotten from you?” “No, you will be paid for each service you rendered. You are more than what you think.” Rox looked at her straightly. “Is the one-year contract true?” She needs to ensure the duration of her stay. “Yes, as I what I promise. You have my word.” Yama nodded again. “How was our sleeping arrangement? Would I sleep next to you?” She is shy to ask it but she needs to. “Not for now because we need to develop some connections first so that it will not be awkward for the two of us. But someday I’d like you to do it on your own accord, or whenever I ask, after all I am a man with needs.” "At least he is considerate in that aspect," Yama thought because she didn’t know how to behave in front of him when that time came.
