The Nightmare

Arianna’s POV

I was sitting at the table closer to the bar. The Rebel’s club is magnificent inside out. It was past eleven thirty in the evening. I had been here for past half an hour. My friend ditched me for date with her guy. I decided not to waste our booking and ordered myself.

As I was having my dinner, my gaze snapped towards a guy. My breathing hitched when I saw how handsome he looks. What stood out the most about him were his silver orbs. He was wearing a three-piece suit. Looks like he is here for business. My eyes followed him as he went near the bar and ordered.

He was the epitome of perfection. Right from the way he sits to the way he behaves, everything looked perfect. I had stared at him the moment he had entered. He is someone hard to miss with his personality. Suddenly a fight broke out between two drunk people. As I followed the conversation, I realised, he is the boss.

I shook my head as I was staring at him from a long time. Someone might call me a creep. I took a look around discretely. Thankfully, no one paid attention as they were busy staring at the commotion going on. Not long he had solved the matter and walked back to the bar. I turned to look at those two men when my eyes widened. As I was closer to the bar, I used my quick reflex.

“Hey, watch out” with that shout, I reached him in time and pushed him on the ground right when a bullet flew above us. Then the chaos broke out. There was firing going on, people started running here and there. Both of us hid behind the counter. A guy was trying to shoot and the handsome guy shot him.

I was cursing him as I was stuck in this place. The audacity of the man, he was not even grateful that I saved his life. Damn him, egoistic jerk, I muttered as I wait for things to calm down. I don’t know how long it took. Once it was over, I escaped with the first chance I got.

‘I don’t know why I had to come here out of all the places’ I muttered to myself. I walked out of the club and stopped short. I looked around. He did say that the people might follow me who had come to assassinate him. There was no one outside except for the bouncers guarding the door. I went to the parking lot. It was totally empty. The sound of my heels clicking on the ground was the only sound.

As I was walking, I felt someone’s presence behind me. I turn around and found two guys walking my way. I walked slowly to see what they are doing. I was getting closer to my car. They were following me. I could feel it. Call it my instincts but I am damn sure they are following me. I stopped and turned around.

“Why are you guys following me?” I raised my eyebrows at the.

“We are ordered to do so” replies one out of the two. I folded my hands in my front. My eyes narrowed into slits.

“Tell your boss, I don’t need his protection.” With that I turned around and walked towards my car.

“Listen here you” my fist tightened when he caught my wrist. I snapped my head in his direction. My anger directed towards him was but obvious.

“Leave my hand” I warned him.

“Listen, don’t make it much difficult for us” he says but did not let go of my hand.

“Leave or else” It was my last warning.

“Or else what?” he smirked at me.

Returning his smirk, I turned around and twisted his arm in angle which had him moaning in pain. Even though he was healthy and well built, I knew my way around guys.

I pushed him on the ground. The other guy attacked me from behind. I was wrestling two guys at a time. I head locked the guy beneath me with my legs and hit the other guy with my elbow. I have strong muscles and hit him right on the nose. He left me temporarily. That gave me the chance to take out my pointed heels. Without wasting much time, I stabbed the guy under me on his arm repeatedly.

Till then the other one had recovered. I threw the other heel his way. He dodged it. When he came towards me in anger, I ducked around him and ran towards my car. Thankfully I had unlocked it before. Getting inside, I lock the door and keyed the ignition and reversed the car. I did not care that he was standing in front of me. When he realised that I was not stopping, he jumped out of my way. Smirking, I drove away from the parking lot.

My apartment was located near the beach. I parked the car in the small garage and climbed the steps. Thankfully I was able to dodge the one car who was following me. I had been careful throughout the whole way. I had taken many different routes so that even if someone was following me, they won’t know where I live. That would be too dangerous. If they find out.

I went to a nearby store on my way out and got out through the back door. I had very smartly parked the car at the end of the road. The car which had been following me was still standing near the store when I retreated and came my way. I need to change my car and sell it so that they won’t catch upon me.

Till I dodged them, it was three in the morning. Unlocking the door, I tiptoed inside. My footsteps lighter.

“You are late” I hear the stern yet familiar voice of my mom. the lights switched on and there she was, my mom standing near her room doorway. She suddenly gasped as she took in my appearance. I tapped my hairs and gave her a sheepish look.

“Hey mom” I greet her.

“I was caught up in something” I reply with a shrug of my shoulder. I went to the kitchen and took a cold water bottle out of the refrigerator.

“What the hell happened to you?” she asks in a concerned tone.

“Unfortunately, the club which I had been too, there was an attack. I saw it and helped the owner” I inform her. There is no point hiding. She will find out eventually. And I don’t keep things from her.

“What the freaking hell” she gasped as she placed her hand on her heart.

I drank the water and turned to her “I am in one piece mom” I pointed towards my body.

“Shut up” she says. She looked worried. I took her to the living room.

“Liana baby sleeping?” I inquired as I sat on the sofa.

“Yeah. She slept long ago” mom informs me. Liliana is my eight-year-old sister. She is the baby of the house.

“You forgot to take her to the park today. She was very upset” mom informs me.

“I was busy mom. I will make it up to her” I let her know.

“okay” she nods at me.

“Are you really okay Aru?” she asks once again.

“I am fine mom. Don’t you know how much capable your daughter is?” I raised my eyebrows at her.

She lets out a sigh “I know that. But still, that does not stop me from worrying over you. You know we cannot bring attention to ourselves” she says to me.

“I know that. Don’t worry mom. I have made sure no one followed me” I assured her. She breathed a sigh of relief.

“I will take your word for it. Be careful” she says in her stern tone. I nod at her.

“Are you hungry?”

“Should I make you something?” she asks.

“No mom. it is quite late. Go and sleep. I shall do the same” I let her know.

“Fine. Good night, Aru” with that she placed a soft kiss on my temple and went to her room.

I went to my room after making sure the doors are locked. I had a quick shower and changed into nightwear before going to sleep. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light.

Nightmare

“No” my eyes widened as I saw the man removing the gun. Not giving it much thought, I ran towards the man and pushed him. The shot was missed by mere seconds. The next thing I know I was attacked.

They were closing on me as I ran further away from the public and came near a dark alley way. I ran down the alley and hid behind the wall. After sometime, I heard some footsteps coming closer. I held my breath as to not alert them of my position.

“Hello, we know you are here” I hear them calling out to me.

They were spread everywhere and searching for me. After sometime when I did not hear their voices anymore, I came out of the alley way. That was my biggest mistake.

I struggled as they laughed and dragged me back into the alley. No could hear me as they tied a cloth on my mouth. Tears slipped by my eyes as I felt them feeling me up.

My cries came muffled. The next thing I know the guy was pulled off me. I could not see the person’s face but he fought with those guys. I got up and helped him. We were fighting when all of sudden the gun sound went off. They ran away and the one who helped me stumbled outside. I gasped when I saw who it was.

“No” I woke up with a start. I looked around. The lights were switched on like always. I always sleep with the lights on due to my past experience. I was sweating profusely. The nightmare this time was mixture of both the past and present. I see the time. The sun has risen. The clouds are cleared. It is saying that morning dreams come true. I don’t know if that works for nightmares as well.

“Aru, are you okay?” I hear mom knocking on the door.

“Yeah mom. I am alright” I call out to her. Mom always insists on sleeping with me but I won’t let her. It is better she be with Liana. Most of the times she feels helpless as my nightmares are constant. But I have assured that I have got used to them till now. They don’t affect me. It’s just that I don’t get much sleep which always takes a toll on my health.

“See you at the breakfast table” she calls out and then I hear her footsteps fading away.

I got up and got fresh. I had to go to my fighting club. Today is a fight. I wore a crop top and ripped denim. I paired them with black loafers. Once I had styled my hairs into their wavy curls, I applied light make up. Entering the living room, I found Liana was already at the breakfast table.

“Good morning mom, Li baby” I greet both of them. Liana ignores me.

“Someone is in the sour mood” I say.

“You got that right” says little Liana as she folds her hands and places them on the table.

“What is my punishment?” I ask.

“You need to take me to park for this whole week and get me ice-cream” she states.

“Hmm. Hard bargain. Will make it two days in a week” I negotiate.

“Three days” she says.

“Deal” I say as I showed my palm to her. She gave me a high five. I tickled her and that bought a smile on my baby sister’s lips. That is what matters to me. Mom also was smiling.

“Have your breakfast, otherwise you will be late for school” says mom. Liana gives her a sheepish look and immediately starts having her breakfast.

Once we were done, I took my bag with my workout clothes.

“You ready Li baby?” I inquired as I come out of my room.

“Yes, Sisso” she nods at me. She gives mom a quick buss on the cheek. After that both of us walk out and I help her in the passenger seat once I had unlocked the car. I got in the driver’s seat and keyed the ignition. Reversing the car, I drove out of the garage. Not long we were on the way towards her school. I dropped her off and went towards my fighting club.
