The Escape

(Sadie's P.O.V) I couldn't move, let alone open my eyes. My body felt heavy. I was being carried but by who and where to I still couldn't make out. I just knew I could trust them and that my wolf felt calm enough with them that we let the darkness consume us again. "Is she still alive?" "Yes but just barely. That damn blast caused more damage than good," a woman sneered. "Get her out of here. Now," a man commanded. "Stop barking orders at me," the woman bite back, "She's not stable and no where near ready for transport. If we don't set her down and at least slow her bleeding down then this will be all for nothing." He growled but ultimately gave in, "Fine, take her to my place and stitch her up, its only a block more from here. Once she's stable we need to move her." "Fine, lets go before we attract any unwanted attention." Murmured voices echoed in the the background, arguing back and forth in hushed voices. I strained to listen but my head was screaming at me, I guess that meant that I was at least still alive and in desperate need of an aspirin. I groaned in discomfort when I tried to massage my growing headache only to wince from a pain that radiated from my abdomen. Fuck, that's right. I'm pretty sure something was lodged in my side when that explosion had gone off. I looked down and saw that whatever was there was gone and I was already patched up and starting the healing process. I tried sitting up but a firm hand kept me in place. "She's up," a man said eagerly as he continued to gently hold me in place. "Don't move Alpha," a woman said coming into the room and gently yet firmly grabbing my arm, "You're going to rip your stitches if your not careful," the woman I had heard earlier said. She was still a little blurry but I could tell she was in scrubs stained with what I'm assuming was my blood. By the amount of blood that was on her looks like I had been hanging on by a thread. I blinked several times and as my vision straightened out I could see it was the infamous Gemini twins. Although I had seen them around the pack compound I had never actually talked to them, "Where-" I tried to ask. My voice was hoarse and dry and come to think of it my tongue felt like it was a wad of sandpaper and tender as hell. It must have finally healed fully. "Here, this will help," the man said handing me a glass of ice water and sitting behind his sister. "You're lucky we got to you when we did Alpha," she said noticing me looking at the blood on her scrubs, "Aside from the broken jaw and lacerated tongue that was already starting to heal when we got you, you also had a dislocated shoulder, a couple broken and bruised ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg. The puncture wound in your abdomen was from a piece of wood that went flying for our rescue attempt and for that I am sorry. It wasn't a deep wound but there were a lot of small pieces that had to be removed and that took a lot more time than I thought it would have and therefore a lot more loss of blood. It's why you're feeling so light headed," as she finished giving me the rundown on my condition she replaced my glass of water with a bottle of pedialyte and a straw, "It'll help replenish some of the sugars and electro-lights you've lost." "You have questions, we know, and we'll answer as many as we can but first we really do need to move you to a more secure location. Alice is on the warpath after finding Brandon unconscious and you gone. Her loyal goons are out for your blood in an attempt to get on her good side," her brother said, peeking outside from the window. I raised an eyebrow, "Why are you helping me? We don't know each other," I cleared my throat and took a sip of juice and sighed. It felt like a rainstorm restoring the dessert savanna that was my tongue. "Because you're our true Alpha-Luna, whether you got to complete the ceremony or not," she said with conviction, "And besides, its our family's job to protect the packs next heir in times of war and whether we want to believe it or not this is war Alpha." "You can just call me Sadie, Alpha and Alpha-Luna is too formal, especially if were going to be on the run," I said gently sliding off the table I was laying on, "I'll trust you for now but I need answers. A lot of them. For starters your names, I've only known you around the pack grounds as the Gemini twins." They smiled and almost looked sheepishly for forgetting to at the very least introduce themselves, "I'm Gemma and that's my brother, Jace," she said handing me pair of crutches and pointing behind her. "Great, now lets get the f**k out of here before s**t really hits the fan." It was chaos outside. Gemma was right, this looked like war. Small fires had broken out all over the grounds. People were running scared. There were two clear groups running around the compound: one group were pack members either trying to put out the fires before they spread too far, destroying everything or they were families trying to avoid capture. The second group were the rogues that had invaded our territory. They were trying to round everyone up and lock them in houses whether it was theirs or not. The air smelled sour. It was a mixture of blood, vomit smoke and ash. It smelled like fear and anger. I tried to pull my body towards my pack to help but Jace and Gemma had a firm grip on me as they guided me away from the terror I was witnessing. "We can't-" I cried as we loaded into the car. Gemma grabbed me by the shoulders as they loaded my crutches into the back of a black SUV and locked eyes with me, her eyes kept shifting from her wolf to herself, "We know you want to help your people but you are in no condition to do so," her voice was also changing from her wolf and back to herself, it was a strange thing to witness, "Our job is to keep you alive so you can do something about this later, to right this wrong but only when you are strong enough to win. The Moon goddess has a bright future for you and your kin but we first have to make our way out of this darkness, you need to survive this first. Do we make ourselves clear?" I was silently crying and hadn't realized it, "Yes, okay," I nodded, "Let's go," my voice cracked as I wiped the tears away. These people deserved better than this. Brandon and Alice, enjoy the fruits of your labor while you can because it just cost you your lives. As we left I looked back at the fading orange glow of the fires that were still blazing and vowed things would be better for these people once I could reclaim my pack.
