Meeting My Parents

{Adelynn’s POV} I heard the door knob click open, but didn’t turn around assuming it was probably Bridget. “Where did you go Bridget, you took forever!” I laughed, tuning my chair slowly to see a man. He was older, his hair a deep brown, almost black, with silver patches on the side. He had a thick silver and brown beard, and deep brown eyes. His body was muscular, he was tall, and tanned. “Oh.. you’re not Bridget..” I whispered softly. “Sorry, I thought..” I began, he held up his hand and just stared at me. “I.. I’m sorry.” He whispered, his voice deep and raspy. “I just..” Just then, the woman from before came up behind him from the door. “Oh.. Mr. Evans.. I didn’t know you were in here.” She said, looking up at the man then back to me. “Well, I have some good news, turns out that the couple we brought in are 100%, without a doubt your parents!” She smiled. I gripped my chair, holding it tightly, my body began to shake slightly. Tears began to form in my eyes as I turned slightly back towards the window. “T-Thank you ma’am..” I said softly. “I.. I think I just need a minute.. if I can..” “Of course, take all the time you need.” She said, turning and taking the man out of the room with her. As soon as the door was shut, I couldn’t hold it back anymore, and I cried loudly. Tears streaming down my face, as all of my emotions poured out of me. I heard a knock in the door and turned my head towards the sound, and saw the same man from a moment ago. I wiped my eyes, and turned back towards the door, rolling myself towards it, and opening it carefully. “Y-Yes?” I whimpered, as I looked up at him. “I just wanted to see you.. I had to make sure, I knew what the blood test said, but I..” he whispered softly. I looked up at him, a soft, and choked sob came from my throat. “You.. you’re my father?” I asked. He nodded, kneeling down in front of me, and pulling me into a hug. “I am.. my name is Leo Evans.. I’m your father..” he said softly, pulling back and looking at me. “You look so much like your mother..” he whispered. “Leo.. Leo, where is she! You said..” I could hear a soft melodic voice coming from the hallway behind him. Then I saw her, a woman, she was about 5’6, her hair was chocolate brown, and cut into a bob. Her eyes were a beautiful forest green, just like mine, and her skin was tanned and covered in freckles. “Oh.. oh my..” she stood, her hand on her lips, covering up her mouth. Her eyes shone with unshed tears, as she scanned over my form. “My baby!” She cried, leaping onto me, and pulling me into a tight embrace. I cried out, hugging her back, my arms shaking as I sobbed. “You look just like your mother..” My father said softly, “Seeing the two of you here together is almost like seeing double. “What happened to you?” My mother said, a sad tone coming through her soft voice. I took in a sharp breath, and let it out carefully. “I-It’s a long story..” I answered, looking down at myself. “T-The doctors said that I should be able to walk again soon. They’re hopeful at least, as long as I finish up my physical therapy..” I looked up at the two of them, they were looking at me, and all I could see was pity in their eyes. I heard a familiar voice behind them, clearing her throat. “Should I come back later?” Bridget said, laughing slightly. “I brought you that burger you wanted.” She walked in, handing me my burger. I sniffled, looking up at her. “Bridget.. these are my.. my parents..” I said, turning my chair towards her. “That’s amazing!” She smiled, before her phone buzzed. She looked down at it, and gasped. “Sh**! I have to go back, my sister was just brought into the hospital, she went into labor!” She shrieked. “We gotta go Addie!” She frantically ran behind my wheelchair. “Wait!” I heard my mother’s voice behind us. “Please, will you come stay with us! I just got you, I don’t want to lose you!” She ran in front of me, dropping to her knees. “We want to get to know you, our beautiful daughter! Please, come home with us!” She begged. “I.. um.. I just.. I don’t know..” I looked between her, my father, and Bridget. “Please, we’d love for you to come stay. We’ll give your friend our address, and you can call her if you decide you don’t want to stay, or we can take you back to your house.” My father said, placing his hand on my mother’s shoulder. I looked up at Bridget, and smiled softly, looking back at my birth parents. “Okay.. that sounds nice. I’d like to get to know you too.” I whispered. “Are you sure?” Bridget asked, walking up beside me. I nodded and gave her a reassuring smile. “I’ll be fine, go on and help your sister bring your niece or nephew into the world!” She hugged me, and I hugged her back before she turned and ran out of the room. I looked over at my birth parents. “I’m ready when you are..” I smiled softly. My father opened the door and my mother walked out. My father stepped behind my wheelchair and pushed me out of the room, following her into the elevator.
