The truth

Chapter 3

    We somehow made it through the domestication class and were released from school. This was my least favorite part of the day. The joy and freedom I felt from being at school would soon give way to dirty looks, not so quiet whispers and most likely beatings for existing. If only.

“Welcome to your new home Corina. I don’t have many rules but there are a few. Respect the curfew while you’re a minor. Get good grades. Hang with the right kind of kids. Same kind of things your parents asked of you I am sure” I nodded in affirmation. “They always said you were a good pup.  Much calmer than your brother. Let’s head on over so Alpha Zander and Luna Charlotte can meet you.” 

We head to the pack house. They have a HUGE pack house. It looks more like a mansion. I Was in awe. Uncle Marco chuckled. “Pick up your jaw kid. We have a few more people and connections than your old pack. I saw his face go blank and realized he was mind linking someone. “Come on.” We went through the door and headed down a long but elegant hallway with marble floors. They have to be loaded. We stopped at a door labeled ALPHA and Uncle Marco knocked then opened the door. Inside a huge man sat behind a desk. I mean he towered over it and he was sitting. Standing next to him was a petite but powerful looking brown skinned woman. That had to be the Luna. The Alpha stood and came around from the desk. He clasped arms with my Uncle Marco. “This your niece?” Uncle Marco nodded. “Corina, this here is Alpha Zander and Luna Charlotte but she prefers to be called Char.” Alpha Zander stuck his hand out. I shook it. “I’m sorry to hear about your folks, but you will be safe here.

Safe. I haven’t been safe since that day. I doubt my father knew what kind of man his brother really was. If he did, he never told us. Probably because he never even dreamed I would end up living with him. I walked up the steps to the pack house to go tend to my duties. I usually start with dishes like the other girls my age and go from there. As I headed in, Rory, the beta’s son was heading out and bumped into me. “Sorry.” I said immediately and bowed my head. He grabbed my shoulders. I flinched,then hoped he didn’t notice but I can tell from his eyes he did. “No need to be sorry. I was going too fast anyway. You good? Anything you want to talk about?” He looked at me expectantly. I couldn’t meet his gaze. “No .” I responded softly. He sighs. “When you are ready, come talk to me. You know it stays between us. No matter what it is ok?” I nodded and quickly walked off towards the kitchen, feeling his eyes on me the whole time. 

“You should tell him.” Kadence says. “You know I can’t.” “You can. He is the future beta. You can tell him.” I ignore her  for now. I wish I could tell him how my uncle treats me . but as uncle has proven before, no one will believe me.I started with the dishes and get lost in thought. So lost that when I was tapped lightly on the shoulder, I dropped the plate I was washing and immediately started apologizing while covering my face. “Oh. You poor child. Into my office. Now.” I uncovered my face and opened my eyes to find Luna Char and two other girls staring at me in shock. Luna Char reached for me then thought better of it. “Come now. Let’s talk. Miranda can you clean this please, Thank you.”

I followed Luna Char into her office. “Sit down Corina.” She instructed as she locked the door. “I need the truth Corina. I have long had suspicions. What is going on at your house? Has your uncle hurt you?” I panicked. I know he will beat me if I say yes. “I also want to remind you that lying to your Luna comes with penalties.” I gave up at that moment. Death would be better than some of the punishments for lying. 

“Sometimes he hurts me.” I whispered. Her eyes flashed black. “Please push your sleeves up.” I am going to die. I did as she asked. I heard her take a sharp breath, Are there others?” I nodded. “You poor girl. Why didn’t you come to me or anyone? We will take care of this tonight-- I promise you. You will not be hurt again.”She stares blankly for a moment. Mindlinkning.

A moment later the alpha comes barging in. “I will kill him. This is not our way.” Luna Char looks at me and I see he is struggling to rein in his wolf. “Corina. I am so sorry but you will be safe after tonight. Stay here for tonight while I go talk to your uncle.” He walks off slamming the door behind him, but not before I hear him say he needs a few warriors. I am terrified, Nothing comes without consequences. Not for me.
