Chapter 2
Corina
I get dressed so I can hopefully get to school on time. The one thing I am good at. I double check the mirror to make sure all my bruises are covered. They are. I don’t need any concerns coming up. Uncle Marco will just beat me more. I have technically graduated but I am taking the home making classes they offer to wolves who may meet their mates soon or have recently met their mate. You have to be at least 18 to enroll. Brimstone Pack thinks of everything and they have the money to do it. Its a large pack. Around 120000 here and another 260000 spread out in the area. They have a lot of territory. I cut through the woods to the Homemaking building, feeling as if I am being watched but I didn’t see anyone. I contemplate shifting as my wolf hasn’t been out for a while and decide against it. It’s a fight for control every single time. I reach the building and see Mari, my only real friend. “Morning Corina. How are you today?” Her eyes scanned me and I know what she is looking for. “I’m ok. Ready to learn about making the perfect meal.” We both giggle and head inside.
Mrs. Lamben stands at the door greeting us. “Good morning ladies. Bright smiles. We have a wonderful day ahead.” We roll our eyes. “How is she always so happy?” I ask Mari. “Its fake. Just like her story that her dad was an alpha” We burst out in giggles again. “Seriously though- All I have been able to think about lately is my mate. My birthday is in two weeks. Maybe that is why. Maybe he is 20 already and just waiting on me to age up.” The dreamy look on her face let me know I had lost her to her thoughts so I turned around and paid attention to the finer points of decorating a pack house.
Halfway through class, the door opened and a kind looking guy came in with Mr.Scargt. One of the administrators. “Looks like a new student! I whispered to Mira.”I know! And a guy at that. I wonder who his mate is.” Most of the guys that go here have met their mates and have been living with them. Mr. Scargt spoke with Mrs. Lamden then left. Mrs. Lamden turned to address the class. “This is Elderin. I know you will treat him with the same respect and courtesy you do wasch other. Elderin you may have a seat at the table over there.” She points to our hub. He walks slowly over. “Hi, I’m Corina.” I quietly introduce myself. I don’t have a lot of experience talking to boys. Uncle beats me if they look at me. I don’t want to know what happens if I talk too much to one of them. “Hi.” He replies just as shyly, if not more. “Hiya! I’m Mari and you have been placed at the best hub in here. We are great students and will catch you up in no time. Have you met your mate yet?”
Elderin looked a little overwhelmed at all Mari’s energy. I totally understand. I was the same at first before I realized how sweet and kind she is. I chuckled. “Slow down Mari.” She sighed. “Sorry.” She said in a sing-song voice. He looked at us. “Yes he is a warrior in Brimstone. We met just a few days ago.” Mari and I looked at each other in confusion. Most warriors were mated, so we thought. Maybe one of the new recruits. “That’s your pack, right? My mate is Javen.” Recognition flashed across our faces. He was a newer pack member. He came from Delta pack about a year ago. Poor pack was decimated by rouges. He was one of a handful of survivors. They were small to begin with, but from what I heard uncle and some of the others say, they put up a hell of a fight to be so small in number. Brimstone ended up taking in a few warriors. I don't remember seeing Elderin before and I thought I met them all. Odd. Whatever. One more member is a good thing I guess. Not like we will be friends.. “He seems really kind.” I offered. “ I hope you two have a wonderful union.I hope to be invited to the ceremony.” Mari smiled mischievously. “ He’s hot and that body is to die for. You’re a lucky wolf. Go get'em!” We all laughed at her outburst, drawing the ire of Mrs. Lamden. I guess we should pay attention. You just never know when you'll be asked the perfect color combo to go with wooden furniture or how many pounds of food a pack of 300 needs for breakfast.
