Avalon could not sleep. He pondered on what his mother said and tried to research his strengths and weaknesses.
He became timid for a week or two. Aloof that people around him wondered what happened to him.
In his questioning mind, he dressed his best, asked his secretary to call Alfredo
Lorcan and tell him that the Vice President of Instello Holdings Corporation would like to meet him now. And he went to his father’s office with his bodyguards.
When he came his father was surprised that he is the said Vice President.
“It’s good to see that you’ve reached a place I didn’t”
“I am now where I am without your help.”
And his father just smiled.
Then as he stood, he tried to speak straight but coughed instead to loosen the tears forming in his eyes because of sadness and being furious. Then he stood straight looking outside the vast glass window of his father’s office.
“Mother talked to me yesterday.”
His father got anxious when he said he and Angela, his wife had a conversation. So he listened carefully for his next words.
“More told me about myself and who you are.”
His father was quiet looking at him.
“Is it true?”
“What did she tell you?”
“That you are not human and you cheated on her because you didn’t tell her before she got married to you?”
“Yes, it’s all true.”
“But we are not the same. You are more human than I am. You have a better chance to live a normal life than I do.”
But Avalon didn’t want to hear his father’s explanation anymore. He went out of his office and went straight to a hotel where he booked himself to be alone for a day or two.
He doesn't know what to do. Does he want to live or does he want to die, but how? For two days his tears kept on rolling down his cheeks time and time again. His world crashed and his confidence wobbled in fear and doubt.
What will his future be? How will he explain to people? His friends? He is alone because he cannot tell anybody now the truth why he is on tenterhooks.
Can he tell his best friend and he will be understood or will they avoid him now because they are scared? What if people would know and kill him? What about his mother? She will be dragged into this dilemma, and she will be hurt. Avalon loves his mother so much, it would hurt him so much to see his mother crying or in pain.
He wanted to be alone. He went to his vacation house and wanted to be alone. He tried to feel his instincts as a vampire, but his mother trained him so well that for three consecutive days, all he felt was being hungry, sleepy, and bored. He tried to feel if he has fangs, but not a single sharpness nor protruding teeth.
Are they fooling around? Are they just pulling my leg? He thought to himself that if his father is half-vampire and half-human, then that makes him just a quarter? And the line might be washed in the future. Is it that way?
After three days, he went back to work. He pretended that everything is normal. He tried to observe people within his core if they will notice something in him, but the day went by just like usual.
He went home that night. His mother was so worried because he didn’t go home for several days. When she saw him
“Have you eaten dinner?”
“No.”
“Do you want to eat? We have your favorites.”
“Do you have ramen?”
“Yes, we do. Wait I will ask the maid to prepare ramen for you.”
And his mother went to the kitchen and talked to the maid to prepare some food for Avalon. When she came back.
“Where have you been? I was worried.”
Avalon went to his mother and held her hand.
“I felt different, strange and I went to our vacation house.”
“Are you alright?”
His mom spoke in weariness.
“I am better now. I just had to go through some mind-clearing.”
“I am sorry for troubling you, my son.”
“Mother, I know you love me so much and I know that you don’t have to say sorry. You don’t have any fault. It’s your husband who cheated on you.”
“Let him be, just be the best of who you can be. Work hard and discipline yourself.”
“Yes, mum. I will do my best and strive hard. Even harder than what I am now.”
Then his food came and his mother, Angela told the maid to leave and not bother them anymore.
“Did people suspect anything from you? Even before?”
“I tried to observe but I didn’t feel any rejection from them. They don’t have the slightest hint.”
“That’s good. Have a normal life, my son, and live it to the fullest.”
“Mom, why do you have to tell me the truth when you know I can live like an ordinary human?”
“When your father told me the truth, it was too late and it hurt me, I don’t want to hurt you. What if your fangs suddenly show and you don’t know why, what would you feel?”
“You’re right? Did father show you his fangs?”
“I didn’t believe before when he was explaining it to me, so he showed it.”
“Did you get scared?”
“I will lie if I say I didn’t. Who wouldn’t be scared of vampires?”
“Are you scared of me?”
“No, because I love you so much.”
“Thanks, mom.”
And he was almost finished eating
“Mom, I have a girlfriend, shall I tell her who I am?”
“No. You will know if the right one comes. Her skin and smell will call you and you would know she’s your mate.”
“How did you know these things?”
“That’s how your father met me. He smelt me from afar.”
“You mean my girlfriend now is not the woman for me? But I love her.”
“You will know what I mean when it comes.”
