Chapter 4: Never Touch The Sorceress

Tempest Having fun at the river felt amazing. The water was cool and refreshing while the sun was warm. It was perfect! I could hear the laughter and chatter of the people around me, and I could also feel their heavy stares but I didn’t mind. Instead, I focused on the burble of the river, flowing endlessly. The soles of my feet felt the soft sand and the rounded and sharp pebbles underneath. I carefully took one step at a time. Wondering how it would be fun until evening, as I heard from the people in the market that this party at the river would last ‘til then. I could smell some food and drinks being shared and enjoyed by these people. There were grilled meat and vegetables somewhere to my left, whereas the ones to my right enjoyed liquor and other drinks. “Hey, Cape Girl! Wanna join us?” A man was close enough to ask me this. “No, thank you,” I answered politely. I turned to where he was, on my right. I could guesstimate that he was rather a tall man. From his slightly deep voice, I postulated he must be good looking. Not that it was my only basis because not all men who had that type of voice were indeed handsome. I just assumed it. But what did I know about handsome men anyway? Maybe it was the pleasant sound of his voice? The way his tone was delivered. There was a nice ring to it. I stepped out of the water and slowly walked away. However, I could hear him fall into step beside me, along with another one. “Hey, just stay and have fun with us!” he pressed on. This guy won’t take “no” for an answer? My senses told me there were more people that started to surround me. Maybe it was because of how I dressed? I could only imagine they were wearing scanty clothing at the moment since I heard my fellow coven members that they wear bikinis, which were basically looking like underwear, and other types of bathing suits, when they would be out in a venue like this. Well, that was understandable since they were going swimming, whereas I, I was only here to enjoy the atmosphere for a change. Because of the strong delicious scent of grilled meat, I almost missed it. There were actually werewolves among these people. I could sense it beneath my skin, like something crawled. That effect would always tell me they were powerful ones. Hunters most probably. But I couldn’t say who or where exactly among these people but maybe the one who just talked to me? I tried to not panic and think clearly. If I wouldn’t use my magic, they wouldn’t be able to tell I was a witch, let alone a sorceress. “I must go, but thank you for the invitation.” I continued to walk away. One grabbed my arm, but I held it with my other hand and twisted it. “Whoa!” I heard the others exclaimed while the one I was twisting groaned and panted in pain, obviously kneeling on the ground. “I said, I’ll not join you. Is it hard to understand?” All my senses were alert. As much as possible, I wouldn’t have to use my powers as I was trained to fight since I was little. It was my grandmother’s idea actually. She said that my being visually impaired was not an excuse to not learn a tedious task, especially self-defense. She instilled it to me, making sure I’d learn it on a daily basis for my own protection. And it now turned out to be fruitful, thanks to her. I heard someone shuffle from behind me. I didn’t hesitate to back kick him in the stomach as forcefully as I could and sent him staggering back and down into the river. I heard the splash and the groan. “I suggest you just enjoy the river by yourselves as I’m done with it. Do we understand each other?” I uttered, twisting the hand I didn’t let go. I could hear his bone c***k, and he tried to suppress a scream in agony, so he just groaned and heaved fast and hard. Well, how manly he was! I could just admire it in him. I listened well to my surroundings, trying to separate the gasps, murmurs and physical intent that may be directed to me. I could feel the tension around me, as well as excitement. Right, these werewolves loved fights. Before I could even predict what was going to happen next, one already tried to attack me from the left side. I simply dodged, however, slightly bending backwards and kicking the man on his knees. I did let go of him at the same time to face my new opponent. “You’re good, Cape Girl!” the first man who approached me said, chuckling. “Aw. Thank you!” I answered to him with a smile. It turned out it wasn’t him who grabbed me earlier if he could snicker like that. I ducked when I felt someone was about to punch me. I caught his forearm and did a hip throw. A thump on the ground made him mewl a little. I guess it was both from surprise and pain. I moved fast when a fourth came up to me from the front. We exchanged punches and kicks. Our shins hit each other but I endured the pain, groaning inward. So did he. I whirled and delivered elbow attacks, which he did not expect, so I hit him in the jaw and chest. I wasn’t contented with it; hence, I turned and delivered a back kick in his groin. “Oh!” the people chorused, and some gasped. It was my grandmother who taught me first that groin attack actually. My instructor only told me after that. Not that he was incompetent or something, but I guess it was because he was a male, and I would’ve applied it to him. Poor balls. Because I did hit him not only once. I could only guess the ones who attacked me were the shifters. Their fast-healing ability would not fail them, especially with only minor injuries. What I did to them could be considered only minor. Very minor, in fact. So I already knew they recuperated in just less than a minute. “I’m even more interested to play with you, Cape Girl,” the first guy declared with excitement in his voice. “Oh, just leave her alone, will you?” One of the girls chastised them at last. “It’s fun to play with Cape Girl. She’s not boring!” another one said. I guess it was one of the guys I just hit earlier, most probably the second. Oh! What now? I thought with annoyance.
