Zhivka
Oh! What now? I thought with annoyance.
I was watching the Lambdas having fun of the girl I stalked. I was vexed when I saw them trying to make a pass at her. He and the others were trying to beat a bear with a stick—as we Bulgarians would say, which means they were completely caught unprepared, as they didn’t expect it. She was pretty quick to be able to handle them, and she was way better than me. I couldn’t help but admire her even more.
It was fun to witness that the Lambdas were beaten by a mere human girl. It was truly amazing for a change! Maybe I could find something where I could at least pierce their humongous egos in the future, just in case they’d pick on me again.
From my position up on the tree, I could very well hear the conversation going on down there near the river. Despite the murmurs, chatters and babbling running water, it wasn’t difficult to hear her sexy, husky voice, which sent my heart pounding hard. Oddly. It was curious. I hadn’t had my heart pounding so hard before, except when I wolfed out, especially the first few times. And it was only natural then since I always panicked, until I was able to control it, got used to it, met Alpha Ivan and then knew myself even better—of what I really was and accepted it.
It was Gavril who first talked to her, and he was now being beaten up by this interesting girl. She had quick reflexes, a good form and was also graceful. Maybe I’d ask her to teach me some moves. That way, I would have the excuse to always see her.
Hmm. Maybe I’d do just that. It would be hitting two birds with one stone.
I snickered when the girl put all the Lambdas down, groaning but laughing. I guessed they were trying to save face by making it look like they were not affected on being defeated by an ordinary girl who had extraordinary skills in hand-to-hand combat.
She ignored the murmurs of the people and went on her merry way.
I jumped down from the tree, didn’t show myself to the other Lambdas, although they might’ve already sniffed my conifer and grass scent. Well, it didn’t matter to me. For now.
I followed the girl towards the forest, being alert of my fellow pack members. So far, none of them followed the girl. Maybe they just had their little fun with her and didn’t want to bother her anymore. Although that part was a bit appalling, judging by their expanded egos. Anyway, it was good they didn’t mind to go after her just to get even. For all I knew, they were now taking a girl somewhere to make out with them and have some real fun. It was also possible that they were just letting the girl beat them up for fun. I knew they could be twisted at times.
The scent of the trees got into me, thicker than the girl’s that I was stalking. Until it faded away for some reason.
Where did she go? I wondered, brows furrowing as I looked around my surroundings. I was pretty sure I saw her not far away, but she suddenly turned around a bend and was gone. So did her scent. Maybe I was just too distracted with the forest’s smell and just lost hers naturally.
I leaned against the hard and rough trunk of a giant tree. I let out a deep breath and looked up. It was already mid-afternoon. Maybe it was better to head back to our territory and wait for Alpha Ivan’s orders. If I hadn’t forgotten, it was today when we were going for a hunt.
I hope I’ll see her again.

“Where were you?” Alpha Ivan asked the late Lambdas. His voice almost thundered, but Luna Mariyka touched his arm to remind him to be calm. Or else, these Lambdas would’ve been injured and tended to their wounds.
“We had some drinks at the river in the nearby town, and… we forgot we’re going hunting, Alpha Ivan. We’re sorry and we know we should be punished,” Gavril said, eyes on the ground.
“Not only did they have drinks but they also tried to pick up a girl and were beaten up by her instead.” It was too late—I just put my hood on after the rain (as we Bulgarians would say in this case). I realized I had that thought aloud, and all of them looked in my direction.
Alpha Ivan’s face turned sour even more. “You were defeated by a girl?” He could not believe his ears.
“We were just having a little fun, Alpha Ivan,” Gavril quickly explained, which our Alpha didn’t like at all.
I gulped when Alpha Ivan semi-shifted. His canine teeth were displayed, as well has his elongated sturdy nails and glowing livid golden eyes. He caught Gavril by the throat and thrashed him against the nearest giant tree. The tree trunk’s bark was ripped unevenly while Gavril’s body cracked because of broken bones.
“Don’t ever make fun of girls! Treat them with respect! You can’t pick up anyone just because you feel like it or just because you want to have some fun! You approach a girl with good intentions. I don’t want to hear again that any of you want to have some fun with random girls. Aren’t you using your head? Remember you’re in my pack! I don’t want you to bring any disaster if you picked the wrong girl! Do you understand?” he roared.
Gavril got up from the ground after healing. His head was hung, and he murmured another apology. After that, his eyes strayed to me, but I acted like I didn’t see it. Instead, I fixed my eyes on Alpha Ivan.
“Consider this as my first and last warning!” Alpha Ivan continued.
“Yes, Alpha Ivan,” the Lambdas and the others replied while I remained quiet.
“Now go and hunt for our food, you idiots! Don’t come back until you found that rare lynx aside from the meat we should stock for the week,” Alpha Ivan instructed.
I wondered why he specifically wanted one of the endangered animal species in the country. Was Luna Mariyka craving its meat?
I really wanted to know.
