6. ARRANGED MARRIAGE!
“By the way Polly, when will you be going to Paris for your design summit?” Naomi asked Polly over dinner and by doing this she gained everyone’s attention.
“In two weeks’ time Mrs. Diaz,” Polly answered, looking up.
“You must be so happy. Only top designers get to go on that summit,” Naomi said in complete admiration.
“Trust me, I feel like I’m on top of the world. I will get to meet the top dogs of design and almost all my fashion idols. It’s a dream come true,” She bubbled, a smile never leaving her face. Who could blame her though? She was going to meet famous fashion designers; a dream only a few got to achieve.
Polly was a student at Peaches Fashion School and she was doing exemplary well. She had never made her mother proud till this very moment. She had nice sketches and design that the world needs to see.
Due to her parent’s money, she would be able to go to Paris Fashion Week and she would meet the best designers in this planet. From there, her career as a top designer will commence. This was her mother’s dream and she was happy that Polly was talented enough to do it just right.
“What about you Logan? How is campus?” Mary took the turned to ask Logan.
“I’m okay. I mean, I love it in Business School,” Logan said shortly and everyone turned to look at Serah. She was the only one who had not talked about how she was doing in her school life.
“I love Business School also,” Serah said with her fake smile playing on her lips. Serah had always wanted to be a lawyer but that was impossible with her dictator mother. Well, according to her mother, business was the only things she needed to study if she wanted to get rich. Law was for people who wanted to put their lives at risk.
Her mother wanted her to study finance for the sake of their family business and what other choice did she have other than that? After all, at the end of the day, it was always about what her mother wanted.
She had to do what her mother wanted and even if she hated the course at first, she had to deal with that.
“Now that all of the children are doing well in their respective schools, I guess it is time for us parents to tell you what we have planned for you guys,” Mr. Boaz Diaz cleared his throat and told them after a few seconds of silence passed.
The children arched their eyebrows up in surprise as they looked at each other, trying to figure out what Mr. Boaz was talking about.
“Logan don’t look at your father like that. We are your parents and whatever we have decided for you will be the best for all of you,” Naomi warned his son after she saw a disappointed look on his face.
“What is it that you have planned for us?” Polly asked looking at her dad.
“Polly, be calm, we are going to tell you all about that tonight. That is what this dinner is all about,” Joseph who knew that they might be making a mistake about this mumbled. He confirmed his worst fears the moment he had seen Serah with another guy. He knew her daughter too well, to decipher that she would never make an attempt to bring a poor man into their home, if she did not actually like him.
Serah was in love with the guy and this was going to be difficult.
Mary being Mary, noticed the look of hesitation on her husband’s face. She reached under the table, squeezing Joseph’s palm, while offering him a reassuring smile.
“Since we don’t have a choice in your plans, you can tell us. Anyway, I don’t know why you have to plan anything for us yet we are educated enough to make plans of our own,” Serah hated being wrapped around the finger of her mother and her stupid plans was so pissed about this plans they were talking about.
“Mind your tone Serah,” Her mother told her in a harsh but firm tone.
“I’m just saying that we are-“ She was cut off immediately.
“We are doing this for you. So please Serah, don’t make it harder than it is already,” His dad told her and Serah didn’t have any other choice but to listen to what their big plans were. Whatever it was, she had an idea that she was not going to like it at all.
Their Maid Agatha, cleared the table before they were served with Sweet Chocolate cake for dessert, accompanied with some wine from the company.
Everyone ate in silence but there was the impeding tension in the room. Serah was sure that she was going to disagree with what their parents had planned and so did Logan. Polly on the hand, was one who lived to make her parents happy, so she was just waiting to hear what her mother had planned for her. Once the table had been cleared completely, Mr. Boaz, cleared his throat noiselessly, ready to address the elephant in the room.
“Children, you all know how our families have been close from even back them. Our great grandparents ensured that we worked together and trust me, what we have decided for you guys is what they would have expected of us. We are not intending on breaking the friendship of these two families and that is why we want to join you kids together. We want this to be permanent. We want this two families to be one, and that is why I want my son here to marry one of your daughters,” Mr. Boaz, a man of few words went straight to the point.
“Of course you are always up to something so f*****g stupid!” Serah was the first one to gasp. What could she have expected anyway? They would obviously come up with something that would benefit them.
“Mind your tone Serah!” Mary was losing it with her daughter Serah.
Mr. Boaz was quiet intentionally to allow their children to process all this.
“Are you nuts dad? Why couldn’t you ask me first? Why are you doing this to me?” Logan asked his father in a more stable tone. He couldn’t understand why his paps could drag him along like a kid. Make decisions for him as if he could never ask a girl out on his own.
He f*****g had a girlfriend. He had Jordyn and he likes her. He doesn’t want his parents to find a girl for her. This is so disrespectful especially for his manhood. He had a f*****g ego to preserve and having a woman being chosen for him, was outright humiliating. And marrying one of the Sloan daughter? Really? One was overbearing and had no clue about the meaning of boundaries, while he could stand the other.
“We are doing this for you my son, trust me,” His dad tried to assure his son.
“It doesn’t look like it dad. This is disrespecting me Dad. You, all of you, are just disrespecting me in the worst way possible,” Logan could feel himself practically breathing fire. Who the f**k gave them the right to get him married when he was still in college?
“I’m sorry son but the decision is already made. “His dad said, his expression growing as stoic as his voce as Logan muttered some curse words under his breath.
Polly was happy. It was finally happening and even though not exactly how she had imagined it but the most important part was that she was going to get married to the man who starred in her dreams almost every night. Her heart made ripples of excitement rush in her chest. She was happy that she had found favor in Naomi’s eyes and that she is soon going to get married to her son Logan.
To her, being married to the one and only Logan who had every girl drooling, was the actual desert of the evening. She did not give a single f**k about the tension in the room as she smiled knowingly, playing with the strand end of her hair.
Serah on the other was actually happy. Finally, she was being left alone and Polly would be dragged under her mother’s tutelage. Oh, poor Polly. She was going to be living a night mare, with her mother controlling every single thing she did.
“f**k you dad!” Logan was pissed with his dad and mother every f*****g second.
“Watch your tone young man. You will marry Serah whether you like it or not!” Naomi ordered his son Logan.
“I’m sorry what? Cause it sounded like you said Logan would be marrying Serah, not me,” Polly pointed out. She had to have gotten the names switched by accident.
“No hun, Logan would marrying Serah,” Mary explained to her eldest daughter.
“You guys must be sick to think I’d marry Serah. Not even in a million years would I give my last name to her of all the people,” Logan snapped yet again.
