-A PACT BETWEEN LOVERS-
“What have you just said?” Charlie was still in shock. It was like a dream he needed to wake up from. This seemed so unreal. I mean, who would have thought of that. No, this could not be happening.
“My mum wants me to marry Logan, and there is nothing I can do about it,” Serah tried to explain things to her boyfriend and she hoped that he loved her so much to understand the situation that she is in.
“Do you know the implication of what you have just said?” Charlie couldn’t possibly believe that his girlfriend was telling her all about this. Didn't she care about what he was going to feel after she told him this? This piece of information was heartbreaking.
“I know, I was shocked also. I didn’t see that coming,” Serah explained this to her boyfriend. Thanks to them making love earlier, saying this did not hurt her as much as it did earlier on.
“So what are you doing here? To break my heart even more?” Charlie was hurt. He didn’t understand why the love of his life could tell him something like that as if it was not that much of a big deal. Marriage is sacred, it is not something that someone can be forced into. Marriage is not a game that someone can play.
It is high time that people should take marriage seriously. Marriage is a commitment to someone that you love. Marriage is special, not something to be used for selfish gains.
Serah needs to rebel if she loves him. She has to risk it all and this way, she will have proven her love for him and how deep it is.
“No, of course not, I am being honest here. This is affecting the two of us and that is why I am telling you all this,” Serah told her boyfriend. It felt good to let this out of her chest. She hoped that after this, they will come up with a solution to this.
A problem shared is a problem half solved. Isn't that what they say?
“So, are you breaking up with me?” Charlie asked feeling shivers arch up his spine. He was angry and hurt thanks to what Serah was telling him right now. He shouldn’t have opened the door in the first place. This was hurting so much. He felt as if somebody had spread gasoline over his heart and set fire on it the pain coming from it was excruciating enough.
All this made his breathing weary, as if he was chocked and that is not the case. This is called heartbreak, a different kind of pain. It is worse than a physical pain for that matter.
“No, of course I am not,” Serah said and Charlie knew that he had heard enough from her. Why is she telling him all this? What does she want?
If she is here to break up with him then she, she should just go right ahead with it. She had already hurt him a lot.
“Get out of my house Serah, I don’t know what has come over you. If you want to f*****g go on with the marriage then don’t come here. Why are you really here, to mock me?” Charlie was very much pissed. Especially when Serah kept on keeping quiet about all this. She was undecided and that kept on hurting him so much.
“No, of course not. Just because I am not crying doesn’t mean that I am not pissed off. My parents are control freaks. I love you, I love you Charlie, but they are forcing me to marry someone else.” Serah ranted. She loved Charlie, why can't he see that?
“So what now, are you going to agree to the wedding?” Charlie asked her girlfriend despite the relentless throbbing of her heart threatening to blow her rib-cage. He hoped that she would give no as an answer.
Say no Serah, please say no.
“I don’t have a choice,” Serah tried to explain this to him but it frustrated him even more. Charlie was hurt, he wanted to throw a fist to cause him physical pain but Serah was there to ensure that he did not do something stupid. The last thing Serah wanted was him getting hurt because of her.
“What do you mean, if I am not getting this well, does this mean that you are going to get married to someone else?” Charlie couldn’t believe that he had gotten to this point with Serah, the love of his life. The girl she considered a future with..
It bored him to death that they were talking about a wedding which is not theirs, this is because Serah is getting married to someone else.
“I have to, I have to marry Logan,” Serah confessed this and thanks to her confession, her sad memories come back and she started sobbing loudly. Being in this position also hurt Serah. This was not what she wanted. She was forced to do this.
There is nothing bad in this world as knowing you have a big problem but there is nothing else you can ever do to save yourself.
Serah didn't have a choice. There is nothing she could do to save herself no matter how hard she tries. She is trapped.
Charlie who was now angry at her, needed to drop that and be there for her because she was crying as if she had lost a loved one.
Charlie hated to see Serah in tears. He never wanted her to cry. Now that she was crying, Charlie had to calm down and listen to her.
Once he does that, then she will get better.
“Betty, our elder sister was disowned for failing to listen to daddy. Dad wanted her to go to business school but she insisted on going to do a Math’s course because of her Niche and dad was so angry at her. To add salt to the injury, she refused to get married to the guy the dad wanted for her and since then, her life has never been good. We don’t even know where she is right now,” Serah said with tears flowing from her eyes like water from a faulty tap. This is really hard for her. Her voice was shaking as she talked and you could clearly see that she was scared.
“Does this mean that you don’t have a choice?” Charlie asked the obvious and he decided to let out his pain in tears. It killed him to know that the love of his life is getting married to someone else.
He doesn't know if he will ever get to terms with this fact. It really killed his soul.
“I love you Charlie, I really do. I love you so very much. I don’t know how my life will be without you. I don’t know what to do. You are the only person I wanted to talk to after the big announcement. Because right now, anything doesn’t make sense anymore. I hate them Charlie, I hate my parents. I could have run away but I don’t want to be like Betty,” Serah cried like a little baby making Charlie cry to.
The two love birds cried in each other’s arms and if tears could be the one to save them out of the problem they were in, they would be saved by now.
“So what are we going to do, I am pretty sure that there is something that is to be done,” Charlie knew that no matter how the situation is and how bad it gets, there is always that one thing that they could do to salvage themselves.
“I know that I will never love him. It will just be marriage in quotes. He will never touch me, I would never do any wife duties to him. We will just be two different people living in the same house,” Serah affirmed this.
She hated Logan, now more than ever since she is being forced to be married to him. That son of a b***h!
“Are you sure about what you are saying Serah? Are you sure that you are not going to have anything with that man?” What Serah said rejuvenated his hope and he had this new hope that everything would work out.
Once people are destined to be together, no matter what challenges come on their way, they look for ways to ensure that they solve the challenges and in the end, they end up together.
“I am so sure, I am not going to break up with you. We are going to go on with our relationship even after I get married to that stupid moron, he will never touch me. Once I get confident, I will breakup with him, go against my mother and dad and in the end, I will divorce Logan and be able to marry you,” Serah made a promise to Charlie.
“What if you change, what if you fall for him? What if you love him yet I am waiting for that moment when the two of us will be together, what if Serah?” Charlie addressed his doubts.
This was his deepest fear. He knows for sure that love can hurt sometimes and love is unpredictable.
I mean, what if she falls? What if she falls in love with the guy she had been forced to be married to.
Nothing is impossible in this planet. You can hate someone today and love them so much tomorrow. Life is unpredictable, you never know. That is why he wanted an assurance.
“That would never happen, you are the love of my life. You will always be in my life no matter what. I love you Charlie, now and forever,” Serah promised.
“I love you too Serah, now and forever,” The two of them made their pact. No one was going to break it, ever.
