Sage P.O.V.
As we walked into the hospital wing together, the warmth that had filled my heart because of Leon was starting to spill out. I greeted everyone we walked by with a warm smile and overall, was just happy. Having his hand in mine was making me feel like I was complete. I don't know what's gotten over me today, I just wanted to be near him.
We walked down the hallway into one of the last rooms. The doctor who had helped me last night was sitting at her desk going through some papers. When she noticed us a big smile spread across her face.
"Good morning," she said. "It's nice to see you again, Sage."
"Thank you. It's nice to see you too," I said shyly.
She stood up and made her way around the desk and over to us. She was an older woman and her hair was slightly greying, but she still looked beautiful.
"You remember Lola, don't you Sage?" Leon asked me.
"Of course," I said, smiling warmly.
"Good. Well, let's get into one of the rooms and have a look at your back then. Please, follow me," Lola said walking out in front of us and leading us to a room.
We stepped inside and I got onto the bed, while Leon sat in the chair next to me. Lola went looking through all the cupboards grabbing some ointments and gauze. She set them on a small metal table and walked over to me.
"Now, tell me Sage, how have you been doing this morning?" she asked me.
"Okay, besides being a little sore and not being able to bend too much. Other than that, I've been fine," I answered.
"Good. Can you lift the back of your shirt up just a little so that I can take a look?"
I nodded and shifted myself around so my back was now facing her and Leon. I pulled the back of the shirt up to my shoulders, but kept the front part just underneath my chest. I could feel the doctors cold fingers touching my back and removing the gauze that was already on there. Once it was all the way off, there was silence. I started getting worried so I peeked over my shoulder and saw Leon staring at my back with amazement.
"Is everything okay?" I asked worriedly.
Lola cleared her throat and started rubbing something across my back. "Everything is fine, dear. Surprisingly, you are basically all healed up. Just a few scabs here and there, the worst of it is the middle of your back where the claw marks came into contact with one another. But, besides that, you look perfect." She smiled at me as she pulled my shirt back down for me and I turned back around to face them.
Her comment was causing me to blush and the fact that Leon was giving me the same look he was when he first walked into breakfast was not helping either. His gaze was making me hot all over. Lola turned around, grabbing a small bottle off the table and handing it to me.
"Now, for the next few days, until the middle part on your back heals completely, put this antibiotic on your back twice a day to prevent any kind of infections. I'd say after you get up in the morning and before you go to bed, okay?" she said with that same bright smile.
"Okay. Thank you for all your help Doctor Lola," I replied, giving her a warm smile.
"Oh, no honey, just Lola is fine."
"Okay, Lola," I giggled.
"Now, you two are free to go. Have a wonderful day," she said, bowing to Leon.
He stood up and helped me off the bed. We walked out of the hospital the same way we came in, hand in hand. As we passed people, I couldn't help but blush deeper at the stares we were getting. We walked up the flight of stairs and towards his office. Once we were inside, he shut the door behind him while I made my back to the bookshelves again. I scanned all the titles of them, lost in my own world.
"As I said before, you're welcome to read anything you want," Leon said from beside me.
I looked at him and smiled. "If anything peaks my interest, I will let you know."
He smiled back at me and ran his hand through his hair.
"I wanted to ask you something, but if you don't want to just let me know," he said nervously.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I was wondering if you would want to come with me back to the cabin you were living in to get the rest of your things? Like I said, I understand if you wouldn't want to go back to that place but I would just love to get to spend some time with you," he said, avoiding eye contact. He looked so cute running his hands through his hair nonstop and being nervous.
I narrowed my eyes at him and saw all the color flush from his face. I had to stop myself from bursting out laughing.
"I'll answer your question, but first you have to answer mine. Deal?" I asked, smiling.
"Umm... Okay?" He said more like a question.
"Okay, I just want to know why you are being kind towards me."
His eyes went big and if I thought he was nervous before, boy, was I wrong. He was evading eye contact once again and sweating.
"Well, it's honestly kind of hard to explain, Sage. I just feel some sort of connection to you, wouldn't you agree?" He was staring straight into my eyes.
Now it was my turn to get nervous. I felt as though he was holding something back from me. I'll just have to work on wriggling out the full truth from him on our trip.
I took a deep breath and let it out. "I guess there is. Anyway, yes, I would love to go with you to get the rest of my things. Although, I must warn you there isn't a lot there for me."
"That's okay," he said smiling. "I'll make sure you have everything you need."
I felt myself blush deeply. Why is he having such an affect on me?
"So, we can leave in about an hour. I have just a few things I need to attend to and then we can head off. Is that okay?" he asked. I only nodded, not trusting my voice. "Good, what are you going to do while you wait?"
I walked towards the door and looked back at him with a mischievous smile. "Just go explore a little."
He matched my smile and crossed his arms. "As you wish. Just be careful."
I nodded my head and walked out of his office. Why does he have to say those three words? I groaned. I walked down the staircase and back into the dining hall, finding it empty. I heard some commotion coming from the kitchen, so I decided to go in there. There were people running from left and right, cleaning dishes and preparing the next ones for lunch.
I walked over to the sink and looked at the older woman standing there. She looked so tired.
"Here," I said. "Please, let me help. I will clean these dishes."
She looked surprised and reluctant at first, but she finally agreed. I took over while she ran off to some other part of the ginormous kitchen. I honestly enjoyed helping out, and keeping myself busy.
Soon the noise died down around me and I found myself humming a random tune. I must have been here for about forty minutes now, there were a lot of dishes. I was cleaning a cast iron skillet when I heard footsteps approaching me. Thinking it was Leon, I turned around smiling. But it wasn't him.
I recognized the man as one of the people that stopped James and I when we first came here. He was looking at me from head to toe with a disgusting smile on his face.
"Can I help you?" I asked, politely.
"I don't know, can you help me?" he asked, taking a few steps towards me.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean."
"I mean," he said, putting both of his arms on the counter, caging me in, "you would be the perfect girl to help me with my desires." He had this wicked glint in his eyes as he looked me over.
"Look, you need to back away," I said, looking straight into his eyes.
He chuckled lowly and dropped his arms.
"I just can't help myself, human. You're just so beautiful." He ran his fingers across my face.
I slapped his hand away as quickly as I could. "Do not touch me."
"Don't be nervous, nobody is here. What is it? Is this your first time?" This time, he started running his fingers up the side of my leg.
"I said not to touch me," I yelled, throwing his hand off me once more. But this must have angered him.
"Shhh," he shushed me, throwing his dirty hand over my mouth. "Don't be too loud, you don't want to get in trouble with the King, now do you?" He was taunting me.
I've dealt with this s**t enough in my life. He started running his hand up my outer thigh again. I narrowed my eyes and tightened the grip I still had on the skillet. He was smirking, thinking he might have won. He leaned far enough away from me and, without wasting another second, I bit his hand. He cried out in pain and backed up, clutching his hand. I knew I wouldn't have much time, werewolves heal quicker than humans do.
"You stupid cunt-" I didn't give him time to finish his insult before I swung the iron skillet around and met it with his temple.
He flew back to the other side of the kitchen, crouching down and holding his already bleeding head. I held onto the skillet, putting it in-between us.
"I told you to not touch me! What don't you understand about the word 'no' wolf?" I asked with a hard voice.
"Is everything alright in here?" a smooth voice came from the doorway.
I looked up to see none other than Leon, leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed and a smirk adorned on his face. I looked back down to the wolf with a glare.
"Your Majesty, I don't know what this b***h's problem is, but she f*****g hit me with the skillet over nothing," he exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.
I opened my mouth to speak, but Leon put a hand up.
"You don't have to explain, Sage," he said to me. I raised an eyebrow in confusion, surely he wouldn't think I would just do that for no reason. But then again, we've only known each other for a day.
"Don't be too hard on her, Your Highness," the wolf said humorously, smirking at me. "She is only a human, after all."
By that time, the kitchen was crowded with people watching all this unfold. I started getting nervous, but I never put the skillet down from between me and the wolf. I looked over and saw Kenny standing in the doorway, his eyes were wide with excitement at the drama unfolding right in front of him.
"That won't be necessary, William. I heard everything that happened," Leon said, looking towards the wolf named William.
His face went pale at the look Leon was giving him. I couldn't help but smirk at the guy now.
"Kenny, take him out to the post. Three days, no food or water," Leon ordered.
Kenny walked up to William with a goofy smile on his face. He gave me a thumbs up and winked at me.
"Damn, Will! You best bet I am telling everyone that you got your ass handed to you by a human girl!" Kenny shouted, probably loud enough for the whole castle to hear.
William looked pissed as Kenny drug him out to the back of the castle. He kept muttering things under his breath and glaring at me. I waited until Kenny had gotten him out of my sight completely before finally dropping the skillet.
I leaned back on the counter and sighed, pushing my hair out of my face. A soft chuckle caught my attention to the left of me. Leon was walking up to me with an amused expression. I stood up straight, expecting him to be at least a little upset with me. But instead, he wrapped his arms around me.
"You never cease to surprise me, little human," he whispered in my ear.
