Sage P.O.V.
I could feel the sunlight hitting my face. I pulled the covers over my head and then winced from how sore my back was. Yesterdays events replayed in my head, it felt like remembering a dream. None of it felt real, being traded to the Alpha King who is surprisingly nice and then the nightmare. Being in the hospital, meeting a real Goddess, and asking Leon to stay with me. Wait... Leon stayed the night with me!
My eyes shot open like saucers and I jolted upright. I looked down beside me but Leon wasn't there. Instead, there was a small note. I picked it up and looked at it. The handwriting was impeccable.
Dear Sage,
Once you wake up, please come join us for breakfast. I have a friend, Farah, coming to help you get ready with a change of clothes. After breakfast, I will accompany you back to the hospital so you can get your dressings changed on your back. See you soon.
Sincerely, Leon
I couldn't stop the smile that spread on my face. I was going to make it my mission today to ask him just why he was so kind to me. Maybe he was this way with everybody. There was a slight pang of hurt that tugged at my heart thinking about that. I have no reason to feel this way, I don't know what's wrong with me. I sighed and just then, the pain in my head came back. I grabbed my head and hissed.
As the pain subsided, there was a knock on the door. Slowly, I got off the bed but before I could reach the door, a small figure opened it and stepped inside. It was a girl, the one Leon told me about in the note, I suppose. She was very pretty, she had dark tanned skin with long dirty blonde hair that reached her midback. Her eyes were a dark ocean blue and her lips looked naturally ruby red, she was wearing a white sundress that stopped just above her knees but what stood out most to me was the bump on her belly.
Is she pregnant? I've never seen a pregnant woman before, maybe I should ask her. Would it be rude to just ask? Not having social skills sucks.
"Hi, my name is Farah," she said with a big smile. "Alpha has asked me to come help you get ready for breakfast." She started walking towards me which made me a little nervous, but I just pushed it down. Leon told me she was coming, and I shouldn't be afraid of new people.
I cleared my throat and put my hand out. "It's nice to meet you, Farah. My name is Sage," I squeaked out.
"Oh, I know. Alpha has been telling me about you nonstop," she giggled with a wave of her hand. Her smile must have been infectious, because I found myself smiling with her. "Here's some clothes for you to wear. I tried to find comfy things so it wouldn't hurt your back too much." She handed me an off-white cotton sweater and a pair of black pants that she called leggings or something.
I silently started to panic. I didn't want too many people knowing what happened to me yesterday, that would be really embarrassing before I've even met anyone. She must have sensed my nervousness because she immediately put her hands up.
"Don't worry, the only reason I know is because my mate was the other guy helping you, Travis. He thought it would be a good idea for me to be friends with you," she said, rolling her eyes. I felt my head c**k to the side. "Oh, not that I don't want to be your friend! It's not like that, I just don't make friends with many of the girls around cause of the way they act, you know? But I could actually see us becoming really good friends. Travis is just always trying to have me make friends with other girls so I'm not stuck up his ass all the time, but it's the other way around, honestly." She kept rambling on and I couldn't help myself from laughing.
She eventually trailed off and joined me in laughter.
"Yeah, I have a tendency to rant on and on," she said, blushing slightly. "It's gotten even worse since I got pregnant."
"So you are pregnant?" I asked her, taking Leons shirt off with my back facing her.
"Yeah? Haven't you ever seen a pregnant person before?"
I just shook my head at her. I heard her gasp behind me.
"What? Like seriously?" she asked, surprised.
I giggled a little at her silliness. "No, I had never met anybody besides the guy that raised me until I came here to this castle yesterday." Her eyes widened in horror but she didn't say anything else after that.
I tried to bend down to put the pants on but I hissed out in pain from my back.
"Here," Farah said. "Sit on the bed and let me help." I didn't argue with her.
I sat down on the bed and she put my feet through the holes and pulled the pants up to my knees. I was able to pull them the rest of the way up from there.
"Thank you," I said, smiling at her.
"No problem," she shrugged. She handed me a pair of socks and I sat on the bed pulling my legs up so I wouldn't have to bend my back in anyway.
"So, why do you call Leon Alpha and not King?" I asked her.
"Well, since my mate is the Beta and I am the Beta Female, we get to have little privileges like that," she said.
"Oh," I nodded.
When I finally got done putting the socks on, Farah helped me stand up and linked her arm through mine. We walked out of the bedroom and down the hall to the stairs but since I had no idea of my way around here, I let her lead me. We went all the way down to the main floor and the whole way towards the dining hall, she did nothing but ramble on and on about her and Travis. How they met when they were children and how they were so happy when they found out they were mates. She said she knew it before him because she's older than he is. I guess, werewolves don't get their wolves until they turn sixteen and then they are able to find their mates.
She was still going on when we rounded the corner and came face to face with a long table filled with people on each side. I stopped and sucked in a breath, there was a lot of people and I was trying to keep myself from freaking out and running away. They were all talking but, slowly and surely, once they all noticed me it was as quiet as a mouse. Just as I took one small step backwards though, Farah spoke up.
"What the hell is you guys problem?" she boomed, putting her free hand on her hip that she popped out. Nobody said anything, but I didn't like the looks I was getting. Some of the guys were licking their lips looking me up and down while most of the girls were judging and rolling their eyes. But still, nobody said a word to Farah. "Nothing? Good, then get back to whatever bullshit you were talking about to begin with."
Farah pulled me towards the head of the table and sat me down in the first chair on the left. Travis was sitting directly across from me while Farah went round and sat next to him, and there was a guy I had never met before sitting next to me. He had shoulder length blonde hair and light brown eyes and his smile seemed warm.
"Hey, my name is Kenny. I'm the Gamma here," he said, extending his hand out.
"Sage," I said back to him, shaking his hand. "Excuse me for asking, but what is a Gamma?"
"Third in command, right after the Beta," he answered, pointing to Travis.
"Oh," I said, nodding my head.
We were all talking in conversation when everyone in the room suddenly grew quiet. I noticed most of the people looking behind at where the doors were. I slowly turned around and drew in a sharp breath at who I saw. Leon stood there with about fifteen more men behind him, they were all shirtless and sweating but that's not what made me lose my breath. Leon was looking directly at me, his eyes were a few shades darker than their normal hazel color and they were filled with raw emotion. I couldn't pinpoint what I saw there in his eyes, needing? Lust? His gaze was causing me to squirm in my seat.
I eventually was able to look away and filled my lungs with air. I felt the chair move from the head of the table right next to me and looked just in time to see Leon sitting down, his gaze still kept on me. He reached over grabbing a shirt from under the table and, much to my dismay, put it over his body. I watched in wonder as his muscles moved ever so perfectly. Farah cleared her throat, causing me to look away from him once again and making my face heat up.
"Good morning, everyone," Leon said in an authoritative tone.
"Good morning, Your Majesty," the crowd said in unison.
"Let's bring the food out now," he said to the people standing next to the kitchen doorways. They all bowed and rushed into the kitchen.
Leon scooted his chair up to the table and leaned over closer to me. He had a small smile on his face as he looked at me.
"Good morning, Sage," he said softly. I looked up at him, meeting his gaze. His eyes hypnotizing me.
"Good morning," I replied after finding my voice.
"How are you feeling?" he asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
"I'm feeling much better now," I said with a smile. I peeked up at him through my lashes and saw a smile spreading across his face as well.
The people from the kitchen came in with hundreds of plates and dishes on trays. Every single person had a plate set down in front of them. I looked at the contents and felt my body flush with embarrassment. I had no idea what any of this stuff was, besides the eggs. When I was younger, if it was some sort of special occasion like my birthday, Alpha or James or whatever would go out and find some eggs somewhere and make them for me. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes. The smell of this breakfast was amazing, perhaps it would taste the same.
Leon must have noticed my discomfort because he leaned over once again towards me.
"Do you know what foods these are?" he asked quietly. I blushed and shook my head no. "There's eggs, sausage, bacon, buttered toast, and a fruit cup," he said, pointing to each one as he told me the name for it.
I nodded and went for the fruit cup first, I had had fruit more rarely than eggs so this was a treasure to me. I loved any kind of fruit I could find. Afterwards, I tried each piece of food Leon had told me about. All of it tasted so great, I was moaning from the taste of it all. I heard Leon chuckling beside me while Travis and Farah were both shaking their heads laughing at my behavior.
Breakfast was going great, Farah would often tell me something funny while I was stealing quick glances at Leon. A couple times and I caught him stealing a glance at me, causing us both to blush. I never thought I would be around so many people before, their happiness and kindness towards me was making me happier than I had ever imagined I'd be.
After we had all finished eating, I felt someone staring at me. I looked up and, sure enough, Leon had his heated gaze set on me. It made my stomach flip and do acrobatics while I bit my lip in nervousness. I started twiddling my fingers. I didn't understand, yesterday he didn't have this much of an effect on me, what was going on? Maybe it was because he helped me yesterday evening? I don't know.
"Are you ready?" he asked, huskily. I felt my brows furrow.
"Ready? For what?" I asked, nervously. He seemed to enjoy my reaction because a smirk played on his lips. I narrowed my eyes at him, he knew what he was doing to me.
"To the hospital, of course," he stated nonchalantly. "You need to get your dressings changed, remember?"
"Oh! Yes, of course."
His smile widened and we were just about to get up to leave, when someone cleared their throat. I looked over behind Leon and there stood a woman with her arms crossed and tapping her foot impatiently. She was wearing clothes that exposed her body so much, it even caused me to blush. She was glaring towards me, but I wasn't really sure if it was directed towards me, so I tried smiling nicely to her. That only caused her glare to intensify though. I looked towards Farah but she just rolled her eyes at the female.
Leon let out a strong sigh and leaned back in the chair, not even looking towards her.
"What do you want, Lindsey?" he asked in a bored tone.
"May I speak with you in the kitchen, Alpha?" she said angrily, not once looking away from me.
"Whatever you have to say, you can say it here and now," he demanded. His voice causing me tremble. It didn't scare me like it should have, though. It was doing weird things to my body, what the hell is going on with me?
The girl, Lindsey, took a moment as if wondering if she should say what she was wanting to. Her gaze still never leaving mine. She finally sighed and threw her hands up.
"Fine," she spat. "Some of the other pack members and I are wondering why the f**k there is a human eating breakfast with us. She doesn't belong here." She said the word human with so much venom, I had to hold my own tongue to such disrespect.
"Well that's easy to answer, Lindsey. She's here because I invited her to be. Is there any more problems you have with the decisions I make?" he said with a threatening tone.
"Alpha, with all due respect, she just doesn't deserve to be here," she said, emphasizing her words towards me.
Leon seemed to be getting annoyed, and honestly, so was I. He opened his mouth to say something else to her, but I cut him off before he could speak.
"May I ask something, Leon?" I asked him. He seemed taken aback for a moment but quickly recovered with a smile.
"Of course you can," he said, gesturing for me to speak.
I met the girls glare and crossed my arms. Lindsey seemed surprised about something, but I wasn't sure what exactly about.
"What is it about me that is so undeserving of being here? Is it just because I am a human?" I asked with a stern tone.
"Of course," she exclaimed, throwing her hands up. "Humans are weak and an embarrassment to the pack and Kingdom. You don't even know anything about respect either apparently, calling the King by his first name. You're pathetic," she finished, feeling proud of herself.
I rolled my eyes and was about to ask her if that was all, but before I had the chance Leon growled at her. His growl shook the whole room and caused everybody, but me, to bow their heads. He stood up from his chair and made his way over to Lindsey.
"Do not ever disrespect my guest again. She can stay here for however long she deems fit and none of you will question it or her about it anymore. Understand?" he boomed. I heard Lindsey whimper and nod her head.
"Yes Alpha," she said quietly, while everybody else followed in suit. She rushed back to her chair and sat down.
"Now if you must excuse us, we have somewhere to be," Leon said, holding his hand out for me.
I quickly took it in mine, sparks flying like crazy at our contact. He rushed us out of the dining hall and towards the staircase.
"You didn't have to do that for me," I told him, honestly.
"I know," he said, looking over towards me with a smile. "But I wanted to."
