Chapter Three: Incendio

Alexei's POV "Genevieve, nice to see you again, how are you?" She put her hand up at me and rolled her eyes. "Don't pretend like we are friends Alexei. I'm only here because you said there was a young witch in trouble, now where is she?" The spitfire this one was. That's why I always called her when it came to matters involving magic. "Right over there. The little brat put up a barrier so no one can touch her or her dead lover." I whispered the last part. Genevieve knew loss just as I did, I could tell when the girl broke down over the boy that they loved one another. Her eyes softened before she turned to where I pointed. She then turned on her heel and began making her way in that direction, me not to far behind her. "What is her name?" "Avery" With a single nod she went over to the young teenage girl and placed her hands on her hips. The girl didn't even turn to look at her when she cleared her throat, just kept her eyes closed while leaning against the wall of the building. The frantic beating of her heart was a little concerning but I paid it no attention. Her hand was holding onto one of the dead boy, Daniel's hands. It had to already be ice cold and becoming stiff. Once morning hit again he would burst into flames if she wouldn't allow us to burn and bury him properly. "My name is, Genevieve. I am so sorry for everything you have been through, I am also sorry for Alexei's manners. He's a work in progress." I growled at her but she swatted her hand at me. "Can you tell me how someone your age managed to make something this strong?" Genevieve tapped the invisible wall while looking up trying to figure out how she did it. She told me when I told her over the phone she had a barrier up, she said that there was no way a kid could have made one, only really powerful witches or warlocks could make them. "My family is very old, very strong, and very unforgiving." I banged on the barrier with my fist as anger began to fill me. I took the picture that I got from the wallet earlier and placed it up for her to see again. "Who is this then?" Her body tenses up and she looked away from me. "Stop it and let me speak to her alone." I looked down at Genevieve then shook my head. "I am staying right here. That boy there called us for help, he called us to come and help her knowing she would return to nothing and no one." I sqared my shoulders. "As his King it is my job to take my subject home for a proper burial." "According to Daniel you're a shitty King." Avery spit at me as she sat up fully. A low laugh came from her when I snarled at her and what she said, Avery stood up, limping as she did. Pain filled her face but she still came closer to me while holding her side with one hand. "Since your wife and unborn child were murdered you have nearly ran your Kingdom into the ground." "Drop your barrier and say that to my face, I dare you." I growled getting closer. I knew I was perhaps a good ten years older than she was but now she was the one being vindictive and harsh. No one has spoken about my Mila, I have ordered no one to mention her or my son that was killed. I banged on the damn wall with both of my hands and demanded. "DROP IT NOW!" "Make me, Alexei!" Avery taunted and sat down casually on the ground. "Genevieve?" I knew the shade of my eyes were a deep red because my fangs had pierced my bottom lip when they came out. She looked at me, worry in her eyes at what I wanted her to do. She owed me, so she couldn't say no. "Do your worst!" A soft sigh left her but I only ignored it and back away a few feet. She planted both of her hands on the wall and sparks began to flow from her hands like they were starting a fire. After a few seconds those sparks turned to a wall of flames against the wall on Avery's barrier. An angry scream came from the other side of the barrier when I heard it crack. Well that didn't take long. "STOP IT!" "I asked you politely to take it down before I called her. This is on you witch." I snarled at her, her gaze moved to me and I swear I saw fire dancing in her grey orbs just as it was on the wall of the barrier. She got back to her feet pulled something out of her pocket and placed it around her neck then mimicked Genevieve's pose, placed her hands directly over hers and I could hear the cracking sounds of her barrier breaking down, but she still stood there and allowed it to happen. "Tribus" Avery said confusing me. Even my men had all stopped what they were doing and were now watching the two witches. The cracking sounds of the fire dancing against the invisible wall sent a delightful thrill through me, my body shuddered once I realized where and who caused it. The deadly emery she gave off not only made me fear for my people, but it also excited me to the very core. I quickly shook my head when the spoiled brat spoke once again. "Duo" "Avery don't do this!" Genevieve warned her but she paid her no mind and smirked at her. now my senses returned the moment she did that. "Unus" The second the wall came down; Avery linked her fingers with Genevieve's and said one single word. "Incendio" then not only did her hands catch fire but so did Genevieve's. Genevieve screamed and tried to pull her hands away but couldn't. I rushed back over to where she was at and tried to pry both hers and Avery's hands apart, but they seemed to be melted together. "Let go of her, or so help the Goddess on your soul." I gritted, the burning flames making me want to retract my own hands, but I had to get my friends loose first or she would lose them before I had the chance to heal her with my blood. The blue flames on their hands were so hot that my hands seemed like the skin was beginning to melt off. "I have lost everyone I have ever loved. I'm not afraid of death, but it seems you both are." The glint in her eyes told me Avery was prepared to go out with her dying breath. "Genevieve put a protection spell on yourself and her. She's not going out on her own terms." I ordered, I know that she is in pain and hurting but if the girl wanted to die and take my friend with her, she would have to find a way to break the protection spell first. With a snap of my fingers my men surrounded me and the girls three stood behind Avery but only Marcus was brave enough to actually hold her. He placed his arm over her mid-section with the other just above her breast and under her neck and chin so when we got them separated he had a good hold on her. Genevieve took in a deep breath and nodded her head. She was ready for us to try and pull her ha ds away from Avery's again. And if I was correct they would litterally be melted together because of the heat caused my the flames. "I'm so sorry!" Genevieve whispered to the girl right as me and my men pulled on her and Avery. "Elementa solis, elementa diei, veni huc." (Elements of the sun, elements of the day, please come this way.) I had no idea what Genevieve was saying but it seemed to be working, the air around us seemed to lighten a bit and it was easier to breathe. Even Avery was beginning to waver in her stride against us. "Potestates Noctis et Diei, te voco. Invoco te ad defendendum me. Ita sit." (Powers of the Night and Day, I summon thee. I call upon thee to protect me! So may it be.) I narrowly caught Genevieve as she was pushed away from Avery by a powerful force. I quickly bit into my wrist uncaring that I was still healing from the burns I had received and pressed it to her lips. "Drink!" She pushed my hand away, "no go heal her first, she has werewolf venom in her system." "I could careless if she dies, now drink before it closes up." I forced my wrist back to her mouth. With a heavy breath she did as I asked. As a witch it was unusual for them to drink Vampure blood, but in cases like this it was a necessity if you wanted to heal without worrying about scarring or nerve damage. "Now please Alexei, she is only a child." I glared at my friend, she knows how I feel about the man that killed my love, and Avery hasn't told me who he is to her. Is he her father? Uncle? Older brother perhaps? Maybe some distant relative; because he is a werewolf and she a witch. But I need answers before I heal her. "Ben, come sit with Gen while I look in on Marcus and the kid." He came over and took my place when I stood up. I stretched out my fingers as the skin began to repair and heal back into place. Now if I was a wolf I would have severe third degree burns, but as a vampire my skin just grows back. I've skinned men alive and watched them heal just to do it all over again as I tortured them for information. Now to go to my other target. Avery Suzanne Remington.
