Mate

(Logan)               Mate!!! Rex hissed as he searched for the source. Our mate is here, I know it. Hurry up and follow her scent! He was franticly trying to take over to go in search.             Dude hold on I can’t see her anywhere are you sure? I said regaining control. I looked everywhere and could not see the source of this heavenly smell of coconut and vanilla.             Rex just huffed and pushed for us to move. I inhaled and started walking forward following the scent. As I stared where I felt the source was, I thought I saw a shimmer of a large wolf shape that disappeared as soon as I saw it.             Please tell me you saw that I said as I stopped walking and blinked repeatedly willing the image to reappear. That is when I heard the rustle of the bushes behind where I saw the silhouette.             She is running away from us. He whined. Go get her stupid, stop standing here and move, or I will.             Cursing I moved forward almost in a run, as the group behind me started yelling my name. “Skyler shut them up I think I found something” I said to him through mind link. They went quiet as I entered the woods. I continued to follow the vanilla as it seemed to circle around and headed to one of the cabins.             Just for a second, I saw a large multicolor wolf racing in front of me. Multicolor? Our mate is multicolor? Can you do that? Rex are you sure it is her?               I saw that, I don’t know, get closer i***t I want to see our mate! Rex was growling at this point urging me to follow her through the woods.             The closer I got to the main road the less of her scent I could smell. I circled back in case I missed something, and her scent was strongest around one cabin. Slowly I edged closer to the cabin and hid my scent, I checked all the doors and windows but to no avail, then I edged down below the bottom lip of the wall and slid under.  I followed her smell to what looked like a door in the floor. I gently pushed it up and peeked inside.             The room was dimly lit from the rays of light shining through the boards, I couldn’t sense anyone else, so I slowly lifted myself into the room. I saw her bed and shredded clothes and a pile of wrappers in the corner.             Rex growled, Blood, I smell blood and silver?             I looked around and on the dresser were bloodied bandages and what looked like a piece of a bear trap with dried blood on it.             Do you think she’s still hurt? Why is she being hunted? What is going on here? My breathing started to speed up as my anger grew.             ‘Sky get back here and only you I need you to look into something for me and I need you to hurry!’             I left the same way I came making sure that nothing looked disturbed and headed over to where Sky was.             “I need you to look into multicolored wolves,” I put a hand up to stop him from asking any questions. “See if the elders know anything and let me know, I’m going to stick around here and see if she comes back.” I said looking at where I lost her scent.             “She?” Sky asked with a sly grin on his face, wiggling his eyebrows.             I growled, “My mate!” I spat at him as he continued his eyebrow dance though they rose a little higher.             “Dude congrats!” he said while slapping my shoulder. “Where is she, do you know her name? Have we met her before? What’s she..?”             I through him a look and growled, “Just look into what I asked”             He sighed and nodded then headed off towards the pack grounds. (Vee POV)             I ran through the woods hugging the main road avoiding patrols that I came across until I was in the city. Making sure nobody had followed me I shifted back and put my clothes on and stepped out onto the road.  I had a little money left on the car I brought with me, so I stopped at the local store and grabbed what would hold me over for a few days, and an oversized t-shirt that was on clearance. The clerk was nice but I could tell she was a wolf from her smell, which I was glad I hid mine.             I headed back towards the woods when the clerk came running out and grabbed my arm. “Hey, don’t go that way, the woods are dangerous!” she almost screamed             “I know, but I only live a mile up the road, and cutting through the woods is faster.” I said trying to hide my displeasure from her sudden touch.             “The old Mills place? I thought nobody lived there. Hmm” she said as she eyed me wearily.             “It was my late uncles’ estate; I’m just staying a few days to see if I can save anything then I’m heading back home.” I lied, amazed at myself for not stammering through that.             “oh, ok well don’t stay long in the woods, people have been disappearing lately.” The clerk said as she continued to eye me.             “Thanks,” I said as I broke free from her and started jogging toward my fake destination, as panic started to build again.             We must go now, she’s following us. Lilly was getting agitated             Ok but we need to go to that house and leave as soon as we get there, I bet she is just trying to validate my store.  I picked up my pace a little but was not trying to sprint as that would be suspicious. As we reached the front gate I ran through the yard and into the house using the key I had found the last time I was here and headed toward the back door. I silently opened the door and slipped out making sure to shut it tightly behind me before I shifted.             Run Lil, I want to get back and eat, this is giving me a headache. I said while trying to calm my nerves. I needed to feel safe, I needed my hiding spot.             I’m cutting through the packs, they won’t see me, and it will be faster, I’m also starving you know. Lilly whined as I rolled my eyes. She had a way of calming me with her snarky attitude. I just laughed and said Sure sure.   (logan POV)               I was hidden in the woods; I could still hear the girls playing down at the beach screaming and splashing around. I was staring at the water when something caught my attention. A large multicolored wolf was rounding the cabin sniffing, slowly it went under and disappeared.             She is back! Rex purred as he was jumping and running around in my head             I can see that, I laughed, Now comes the tricky part.             I left my hiding spot and slowly slipped under the cabin and made my way to the trap door. I carefully lifted it and pushed my senses to their limit; I did not want to startle her. She seemed to be far away from the door, so I quietly climbed into the cabin and gently replaced the door and stood on it.                There up against the window was a small, gorgeous creature wrapped in a sheet, Mine! Rex said. She was franticly looking for something, I have a feeling it was me she was looking for. Franticly she paced from window-to-window cursing.             “Why are they still here?” she whined, I could tell she was nervous, but did not know why.             “what if they’ve come to get me? I don’t want to die here Lilly.” She whimpered and if I were not a werewolf, I would have missed that.             I withheld my growl at that image, I will not let anyone hurt my mate. I watched as she became more and more agitated.             Sky did you find out anything?  Hurry up man she’s going to have a heart attack if the girls stay here any longer.             I sure did alpha, I will tell you more when I get there, but she’s supposed to be extinct dude, she shouldn’t be alive.             Well someone has been trying, there are bloody bandages here and I can tell she is still bleeding. This seemed to irritate Sky as he growled.             I am bringing a few warriors with me just in case, I’m on my way back and I’ll hurry, give me 5 minutes.             Get the girls out of here Now!! I said as I watched my mate tug on her hair. I saw her relax a bit when the group started to move from the beach and start heading back toward the main road. She turned toward the other part of the room and I heard her collapse on to something and sigh.             “Well at least they aren’t rogues, I don’t want to deal with any more of them, I doubt I have enough clothes for that” she sighed, as her stomach again growled its displeasure at being ignored.             Rogues? Our mate is running from rogues?             No one hurts our mate! Rex growled, she is mine! he hissed growing more agitated by the minute.             Calm down Rex, lets first meet her and feed her, while we are at it get her seen by the pack doctor. I tried to calm myself as well, the idea of my mate running, hiding, and starving were not helping me in that cause. I took a deep breath to settle my breathing.             I slowly walked through the kitchen making sure to block the exit. I was going to introduce myself and as skittish as she was, I didn’t want there to be a place for her to flee from me.             I took a deep breath and cleared my throat.
