Theo’s P.O.V.
I pursed my lips into a thin line while looking at my best friend and my alpha, Alexander. He had no expression on his face but I could see that he was ragging inside. The death of his first mate was a taboo for him, and I didn’t know why the prince and Sarah’s brother still wanted to investigate. What was there for investigation?
I was the one who investigated the matter when Sarah died and found nothing. Alexander was on rampage due to the loss of his mate and I had to take care of so many things at that time. Still, I gave my 100% to the investigation.
“I tried to find out who they want to send to our pack but,” my informant paused, and I could feel guilt in his voice in the end. “You don’t have to think guilty. Try your best to get the information on that person and keep your eyes on the prince’s movements. Try to find who he contacts and who comes to visit him. Pass the information daily and if you see anyone important, contact me immediately,” I instructed him in a calm and composed tone and hung up after that.
There was dead silence in the room as we were both just staring at each other with a different gaze. Alex was trying hard to suppress his rage, and I could feel this. I sighed aloud after some time and unhooked my legs.
“Let him what he wants to do, Alex. He is Sarah’s brother. You know their bond very well. He doesn’t want to lose his hope, then let him live in illusion,” I tried to persuade him and tried to ease up him a little. “But this gives him no right to send someone in our pack or bribed someone in our pack,” he answered me in a cold tone.
I nodded in agreement wholeheartedly. “That’s why I asked him to keep his eyes open. You know that no one from our pack call outside without going through the software. Let me check the software and see if someone was contacted by the royal palace or Hugh. I will definitely not allow any stranger to come inside our pack. It can be a big threat on our security too,” I replied to him in the same calm and composed tone.
He just scoffed and looked in the other direction. Hugh was really going too far now. He knew that Sarah’s death had left a deep scar on Alex’s heart still he didn’t stop investigating her death and that attack on our pack. I really didn’t know how to handle Hugh, Sarah’s older brother, beta of Moon River Pack.
“I guess I need to talk with the alpha of his pack. I really need to re-establish my reputation as a ruthless alpha once again. If Albert can’t keep his beta leashed, I have no problem taking over that damn pack,” Alex muttered angrily, but it was clear to my ears.
“Let’s talk with him first and threaten him,” I advised, and Alex immediately nodded in response. “Okay…. It’s time for dinner, and I am super hungry now,” I said while hitting the armrest lightly and standing up. “You go… I have some work to finish. Ask someone to send my dinner in my room,” he said in a monotonous tone, and looked at the screen of his laptop once again.
I just said okay in response as I knew that it was futile to make him go with me right now. Both his mind and his heart were in a mess and he needed some alone time to cool himself down. I straightened my pants and then walked out of the office while stuffing my hands in the pant pockets. I needed to make some arrangements before going for dinner.
I went straight to the living room and saw Connor, the gamma of our pack and our second best friend sitting on the couch in the living room. I sighed helplessly and rubbed my temple while going towards him. I didn’t know how he got this addiction, but he was addicted to mobile games. He was already twenty-two, but he still behaved like a child even when he was one of the most fierce fighters in our pack, ranking third after Alex and me.
“Come on…. Revive me… revive me… what are you guys doing?” he yelled suddenly while tapping on the screen furiously, almost hitting the screen with the tip of his thumbs. His eyes were completely glued to the screen, and if you see him for a few more seconds, you will notice that he doesn’t blink while playing.
I immediately smacked the back of his head, making him fall down from the couch as he was sitting at the edge of the couch in excitement. “Ouch… wh…(he immediately shot daggers at me through the eyes after his face hit the carpeted floor)…. Why did you hit me? I died in the game.” He yelled at me while looking at the screen immediately.
“All you know is playing game all the day. What are you, huh? Five?” I taunted him while sitting on the couch lazily. He sat down on the floor while glaring at me. I didn’t know what game he played but by his expression I could say that he had lost this round and he had to wait for the second round.
“Who said that only children can play game, huh? For you kind information, e-sports, play by children to even old people is now famous in the human world. It… it’s really refreshing and excited.” He once again defended himself and e-sports.
“Aaahhhhh,” I grunted in annoyance and leaned back on the backrest of the couch. He was now looking at me with a pissed off look. “Back to work now,” I said in a cold tone and his demaonour immediately changed. Now he had a serious face.
“Contact your informant in the Moon River Pack and ask him to keep his eyes on the beta and his whereabouts. If possible, ask him to install a bug in his phone,” I instructed him, and he nodded in agreement.
“I have a news,” he said while standing up from the floor and sitting down beside me on the couch at a distance. I raised my brows questioningly. “I am sure that Jack has contacted you, but he didn’t tell you about Beta’s daughter,” he said, and I nodded in agreement, but I became curious immediately. I forgot about that girl or you could say that it skipped from my mind.
“She is attending her ex-mate’s trial today,” he told me, and I looked at him with a surprised gaze. “She woke up?” I asked him in a surprise and he just nodded once. “She woke two weeks ago but is ready to leave the pack. She is going to her aunt’s pack to recuperate. Her aunt is the Luna of the Thunder Storm Pack,” he told me further, and this time I just gave him a curt nod in response.
This drama was going to be interesting. As per my investigation, that girl is not a simple teenager. She was brilliant, with good academics and hard training. She was still seventeen, but she was one of the best fighters in her pack. Everything about her was easily available, and it made me curious about her. She frequently went out of the pack for a few days or a month. During those days, it was hard to find out her whereabouts. She always gave the same excuse that she was going to her aunt’s pack.
The next interesting part is that she rarely visit her aunt but her aunt always covered up her stay there. “Tell me the result of the trial and also ask your informant to stay vigilant around that girl and,” I instructed him in a serious voice but paused. He c*cked his brows this time.
“Do not let her find out about her whereabouts. She is a perfect beta material and her senses are stronger than any other member of that pack. If she finds that we have bribed someone in her pack to keep our eyes on them, she will plan to kill your informant first,” I finished what I wanted to say and emphasized every word in the next with a serious gaze.
“I have already done this because you are right that that girl is not a simple one. There is something mysterious about her trips to her aunt’s pack,” he said in a serious tone once again. “I want you to check the phone call records of each member of our pack including mine,” I instructed him once again in a serious but very low tone.
He raised his brows questioningly at my last words. “You know that I always forget about my phone's whereabouts and there can be a possibility that someone uses my phone for a private call to someone. We need to find him as soon as possible,” I explained the situation, and he scoffed this time while looking at me in a mocking gaze. “You are 23 and yet you lose your things so easily. What are you? Five?” he taunted me in the end in the same tone that I used on him a few minutes ago.
All the lines on my forehead immediately straightened. I also straightened my body against him. “You brat…. You only know playing the game every day. What else you can do?” I yelled at him while pouncing at him angrily, pinning him down on the couch. “You can’t slander me like this. I am the gamma of this pack and I have so many things to do as my duty. You only want to have something on me to scold me and beat me,” he defended himself while shielding his face with his hands in front of his face.
I punched his guts playfully, making him wince in pain. “Theo, you are really cruel,” he yelled while covering his stomach this time. I punched his face this time, making me yelp in pain once again. “This is cheating,” he yelled again, but I smiled wickedly and kept on beating him, without giving him any chance to refute my assault on him.
Avery’s P.O.V.
“Are you sure, Ms. Smith, that you have no intention of punishing Nathan Blakefield for committing a serious crime against you?” One of the council members asked me in a surprised tone, and I just smiled at him.
“You are all my elders and know the law better than me. I trust you guys, and I am sure that you will do me the right justice,” I replied to him in a calm and composed tone. They were all surprised to hear me, but a genuine small smile of appreciation appeared on some of them. They were twelve in total, sitting around me behind the round table between us.
“I still want you to decide a punishment for him, Ms. Smith. I am glad to know that your generation still trusts our decisions, but Nathan’s impulsive nature almost caught you, your death. What he did is unforgivable. As a victim, we want you to decide his punishment.” Another elder asked me in a calm tone. I sighed and took a deep breath before exhaling the air out of my lungs through my nose.
