Avery’s P.O.V. (Continued)

I sighed internally while looking at them with a calm gaze. I didn’t want to even think about that prick, let alone think about a punishment for him. All I wanted was for him to bear the same pain and hurt that I had experienced, but I knew that it was not possible.

Also, I had to think about so many other facts. He was the only heir for the alpha position. If I asked for any hard punishment, our pack will be vulnerable to other alphas and they can attack us or challenge Alpha Adrian for alpha position. I didn’t want to involve myself in the pack politics but this was something that I needed to consider.

“If… if you really want me to decide, then …. Then I … I request you to instruct Alpha Adrian to transfer me from his pack to the Royal Pack. No punishment can make me forget the pain and hurt that I had endured due to him, elders. By staying in the pack, I will always remember that humiliation and hurt on every day basis. So,” I replied to him in a calm and firm tone but paused in the end.

I gulped hard the invisible lump formed inside my throat. I felt that I couldn’t speak anymore. I was still weak to endure the psychological pain that I had to bear right now. There was a thick silence in the room. They all looked at each other and I could see disappointment on their faces.

I really wanted to go away from the pack. No matter how hard their punishment will be, Nathan will still remain the future alpha of the pack, and I have to serve him in the future if by chance I find my second-chance mate in the same pack. I didn’t want to even look at him let alone serve him.

“I respect your decision, Ms. Smith. You are wise enough not to involve yourself in this matter and let the council decide the punishment for Nathan Blakefield according to the law. However, I still want to know if you have this knowledge that, after serving his punishment, he can inherit the alpha position." the same person asked me the next question in a calm tone.

I took a deep breath and close my eyes for a few seconds. I knew what kind of punishment he could get, and I wouldn’t deny that it was nothing but a disappointment for me. Still, I am willing to stand out of this situation.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked at him with the same calm gaze. “I am aware of the nature of the punishment, Elders. You can proceed according to the law, but please consider my request too. I want nothing more than this,” I answered him in a calm tone, but requested him once again in the end.

They all nodded together this time. “Very well, Ms. Smith. You can go out of the court now. We will inform you about your decision soon,” he said to me with a small smile on her lips this time. I smiled back and stood up from the chair where I was sitting in the middle of the room. I bowed respectfully in front of them before walking out of the room.

William came to me hurriedly as soon as I closed the door of the room behind me. “How did this go?” he asked me worriedly while holding me by my shoulder. I smiled and put my hand on his chest. “Relax, brother. Everything is okay. They will not bother me about the punishment anymore,” I answered him in a calm tone, trying to cheer him up. He was in tension for the whole two days.

“Are you sure?” he asked me in a worried tone and I rolled my eyes. “I am pretty much sure, brother… now let’s go from here. I am really hungry,” I replied to him and rubbed my empty stomach in the end. “Yeah… it’s almost lunchtime. Prince Adam called me an hour ago. He has invited us for lunch today,” he told me, and I raised my brows in surprise.

“Really?” I asked him in excitement, and he immediately nodded in agreement. “Let’s go then…. Let’s have a royal feast today,” I said while linking my hand around his arm enthusiastically. He sighed helplessly, and I started walking with him cheerfully. It was not the first time that I came to the palace. I really loved the food here, especially steak and sphegatti here.

My mouth watered at the mere thought of the food and my stomach grumbled aloud, indicating that I was really hungry. My brother chuckled in amusement, and I just smiled sheepishly while rubbing my empty belly.

“Did you put your request in front of them?” he asked me after some time while walking towards the palace lobby. “Yeah… I asked them about my transfer,” I answered him truthfully. I lowered my eyes in guilt. I had to leave my family behind if I wanted this transfer. “I am also thinking about the transfer with you,” he said to me again and I snapped my head towards him in shock.

“What are you saying, William? You …. You can’t do this,” I yelled in panic, but he just took a deep breath. “I also don’t want to stay with Nathan. I …. I have already told Alpha Adrian about my decision to give up on the Beta’s position in the future,” he answered me in a firm and calm tone, but my panic increased in my heart. This position has always been his dream since childhood. How could he give up?

“How could you do this with yourself, William? You…. You have done so much hard work to earn that position. You not only inherited that position but also made up yourself worthy of that. Please don’t give up for me. I will always be your sister, but …. But,” I stammered in the end as I was now overwhelmed and my voice choked.

“I am not doing this for you, Avery. I am doing this for myself too,” he answered me and I grunted angrily this time. Why my brother was so stubborn.
