Avery smiled helplessly while looking at her mother, who was now shredding tears nonstop. She woke up from her deep slumber almost five hours ago. She was still too weak to talk for long. So, she was now only listening to everyone present around her in her room.

“You don’t worry, Mom…. Avery is not a fragile doll that could be broken by the rejection of a stupid wolf. She is my sister and your daughter. She is the competent she-wolf, not only in our pack, but in the whole of our world. She….. she managed to defeat death. You will see her rise from ashes once again." William comforted his mother while showing his confidence in Avery, but his words infuriated his mother.

“What do you mean by defeating death?” she snarled while pushing William away from her as William was holding her from her shoulders, startling William in the process. “She is your sister. How can you curse like this?” she pounced on William while snarling aloud.

“Mom …. Relax… I was just using a phrase… I didn’t mean to,” William defended himself in panic and tried to run away from his mother. Avery shook her head helplessly while looking at them. Edward also smiled helplessly and then looked back at her daughter.

She was still weak but she was better than before. “Dr. Ruben will come in the evening to check on you. I am sure that you are now perfectly fine. Still, you need to go through the check-up,” he instructed her in a very gentle and doting way.

Avery smiled once again while nodding in agreement. “I know, dad,” he answered him in a low tone, but coughed in the end. She knew that she had a long way to go before gaining her previous strength. Meanwhile, Elizabeth managed to punch William a few times before huffing in annoyance. She came back to Avery and sat down beside her waist on the bed, facing her.

“I am going to cook chicken soup for you. You need to eat healthy food to get some strength,” she said to Avery in a gentle and concerned tone. “Okay, Mom,” Avery answered her with the same smile on her face. She was glad and happy that she was still alive and had her parents and her brother all this time, who loved her more than their lives.

Soon Edward and Elizabeth went out of the room, as Edward had some work to finish in the Alpha’s office and Elizabeth wanted to cook soup for Avery, leaving William with her to take care of her. After closing the door, William walked back to his sister’s bed and sat down at her mother’s place.

“What about Marie, William?” she asked in a worried tone. After waking up for more than six hours, she wasn’t able to contact Marie nor did Marie show any sign of her presence. Avery was worried for Marie. William took her sister’s hand from the bed and kissed her knuckles lightly. He was overwhelmed when Avery woke up this morning and called his name with difficulty when he was finishing his work on her study table in her room. After that incident, he was almost living in her room to take care of her.

“She is perfectly alright, sis. You are awesome. You took all the pain of rejection on yourself, saving Marie in the process. In the end, she came forward and defeated what was in your way. She is also weak like you for the time being but she will come back soon,” William explained her in a gentle and calm tone.

Avery took a deep breath of relief and looked back at the ceiling of her room. She was still holding William’s hand tightly, as if she wanted to get some strength from him. “Things are not as now as they were before, Avery,” William said furthermore, in a serious tone this time.

Avery once again averted her gaze from the ceiling to him while tilting her head lightly while narrowing her eyes in confusion. “The council and the royal court are waiting for you to wake up so that you can decide the punishment for what Nathan did to you,” William told her in the same tone.

“They are waiting for me to wake up? Why?” she asked him while shrinking her eyes in confusion again. William took a deep breath and put her knuckles over his lips. He didn’t want to open her sister’s deepest wound, but she had to face everything sooner or later.

“They ….. they have confiscated Nathan in his room right after his birthday party. He has to bear the consequences of breaking the laws but they haven’t made any verdict against him yet. They want you to decide what kind of punishment you want for him. After all, he is your culprit first." William explained everything to her in the same tone, looking straight into her confused eyes.

All the lines on Avery’s forehead straightened after listening to what William told him. She didn’t speak immediately, as her mind was still processing exactly what had happened to Nathan. So the sc*mbag also got punished for rejecting her?

“For how long have I stayed in this state?” she asked in a calm tone after some time. William took a deep breath once again. “For more than three months,” he answered her truthfully, still patting her knuckles lightly. Avery raised her brows in surprise immediately.

“More than three months? So, you want to say that Nathan has been grounded in his room for more than three months?” She asked him in a surprised tone and he just nodded in confirmation. Avery was shocked to know this. For an outgoing personality like Nathan, keeping him inside his room all the time for more than three months is real torture. Nathan loved out-sports and always held a party every weekend in any of the clubs on their pack land.

Nathan and Martha were known for their extravagant parties, and now he has been grounded for more than three months. Avery, due to an unknown reason, felt happy about Nathan’s punishment. She had a crush on Nathan for more than four years, but after what he did to her, she knew that she had no place for him in her heart.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. “Inform them that I don’t want to associate myself with this case anymore. Nathan broke the law and should be punished by the law. It’s all up to them how they want to take care of this case,” she told him her decision in this matter. She had no intention to even see that boy even for once. So, it was better for her to stay away from him as far as possible.

William kissed her knuckles before putting her hand on the bed again. “Alright… I will inform them right away. You rest now or else Mom will strangle me to death,” William said to her in a normal tone but joked in the end. Avery smiled again and opened her eyes slowly.

He stroked her hair for a few seconds before tucking her under the sheet. “Close your eyes for now. I will wake you up when Mom will come,” he instructed her in a doting tone, and she only nodded in response before closing her eyes.

At the same time, in the Crescent Moon Pack, Alexander and Theo were discussing when to start their plan of taking over the Blood Moon Pack. Alexander had lost all his patience as Alpha Adrian couldn’t give him a satisfactory response on the project that he had proposed. Theo was keeping his eyes on them, and his informant told him that William had proposed some suggestions, but Adrian denied them because that could threaten his son Nathan’s claim to Alpha’s position as it involved collaboration with two neighboring alphas.

“He really has the audacity to think still that his pathetic son can ascend to the title after committing a heinous crime of rejecting his minor fated mate,” Alexander said in a taunting tone, but his anger was still evident in his tone. Theo nodded in agreement while pursing his lips into a thin line. His informer told him about the plan that William had submitted to Alpha Adrian, and Theo was impressed with that boy. It was a waste of his talent to stay in that pack when he couldn't be heard because of the partial behavior of his alpha. Alpha Adrian really disappointed them as the alpha of the sixth-strongest pack.

“Let’s surround them after a week,” Theo proposed after a short pause in a serious tone, making Alexander raise his brows in surprise. “We have already given them enough time to think. If we don’t take action now, our reputation as ruthless rulers will be ruined. They are taking our leniency for granted,” Theo explained in the same tone.

Alexander chuckled but nodded in agreement in the end. This reputation of being a ruthless and notorious alpha was established by his great-great-grandfather, and then the next generations continued this reputation. He was also the same. He killed mercilessly without any remorse. After his first mate’s death, everyone thought that he had lost his humanity to an extent.

“Let’s do this. Don’t contact them now. Start the preparations for taking over that pack. Now is the time to show them that I am still what they know,” Alex said in a cold and determined tone, making Theo curl up the corner of his lips into a sly smile.

The smile vanished as soon as his phone started ringing on the table. He leaned towards the table as he was in a resting position on his chair with legs crossed over his knees. He picked up the call while c*ocking his brow. Alexander didn’t pay attention to him and returned to his work. His pack was the largest pack in the world. Even the Royal Pack was second to them in every aspect. So, he needed to keep his eyes on almost everything to keep running the pack. Right now, he is reviewing the financial statement for the quarter.

“They are planning to send someone to our pack to investigate our former Luna’s death secretly. Luna’s brother is still in this belief that her death was not just collateral damage of a war,” the informer told Theo but Alex’s hand immediately stopped and he looked at Theo with a burning gaze, making Theo sigh helplessly.
