Nathan’s P.O.V.
“Why did that Beta want to see Avery? She is still our pack member, not a display object,” I said to my mother in an angry tone. She raised her brows in surprise while tilting her head lightly. “Now you are worried for her, huh? Does it matter to you who wants to see her and who does not? It was William’s decision, and if he doesn’t have any problem, you are no one to raise an objection,” she answered me in a calm tone, but I could feel taunt in her tone.
I opened my mouth to say something but shut up because she was right. I have been locked in my room for more than two months, but he didn’t even try to mind-link me once. He had blocked me not only on his phone but he had also blocked my mind-link. After spending so many days in solace, I realized what I had done for nothing.
“Tomorrow is Martha’s birthday. She wants to go out of the pack to other packs to find her mate if no one in this pack turns out to be her mate,” Mom told me further, and my eyes widened in shock. “She…. What?” I asked her in a shocked tone, and she scoffed aloud.
“You heard me, Nathan. She wants to find her mate and for this, she is ready to leave this pack,” she answered me, stressing every word while glaring hard at me. She was the only one who met me at every mealtime. I could see outside the window of my room, but I couldn’t talk with anyone as the windows were now locked with glasses.
I lowered my eyes and tried to suppress the pang of pain that I was feeling in my chest. “I don’t know if you will get a second chance or not, Nathan, but I am really worried for you now. Avery is still in a coma but Helene said that she can wake up any time now. She not only managed to save her wolf but also endured all the pain. You really messed up with your fate, Nathan,” she said further, and I closed my eyes while gulping hard.
“I……. have one more news to share with you,” she said with a bit of hesitation after some time. I slowly opened my eyes and looked up at her questioningly. She had a painful expression on her face this time. “What is it, Mom?” I asked her in a calm tone. I had seen so much worse in the last two months that no bad news could affect me more.
She took a deep breath and looked at me with a calm gaze. “William refused to take over his father’s position in the future if you get the chance to take over Alpha’s position. I am not sure, but I ….. I have this hunch th.. that he is planning to leave the pack,” she replied to me in a calm tone, but there was sadness in her voice.
I just stared at her blankly, not knowing how to react to this. I had known William all my life. He was not my friend but a brother to me. I couldn’t deny that he was my strength. He was the reason that I was confident about my successful reign as an alpha.
“He has already talked with your father to shift Avery to her aunt’s pack after she wakes up. We not only lost our future Beta but also a fine beta warrior, Avery,” she said in a defeated tone while looking in the other direction.
I knitted my brows while jerking my head lightly in confusion. “What are you talking about? Avery never trained,” I said in a confused tone, and she glared angrily. “What the hell is wrong with you, Nathan? You didn’t even know about Avery?” she asked me in an angry tone, and my heart skipped a beat in fear this time. Did I really miss something?
“Why do you think no one messes with her in the pack, huh?” she asked me in a taunting tone while standing up from the chair where she was sitting until now. “Uhhhh because of her father, and William,” I answered her while moving my shoulders up and down while stating the obvious.
Mom looked at me while blinking hard in disbelief, and suddenly, she started laughing hard, causing my confusion to deepen. Did I really miss something all these years? “Now I get it. Why was your father so worried about giving you the alpha position? You ….. You were busy fooling around with Martha and missed so many important things about the pack. You …. You don’t even know that… that Avery is one of the best young warriors in our pack?” she taunted me while laughing so hard that she had tears in her eyes now.
I gulped hard again when I saw a bitter mocking expression in her eyes. “O My Goddess…. How could I get a fool like him as my son?” she said, complaining to the Moon Goddess. I lowered my eyes and bit my lower lip to suppress my anger. It was enough humiliation for me. Aero was still silent deep inside me, and I was glad that he was silent or else he would have pushed me to death with his taunts.
She stopped laughing after some time and chuckled dryly while lowering her head. “I don't know what fate will bring you in the future, Nathan, but now I am more worried about the future of this pack. I…. I don’t want to say this, but I am glad that you rejected Avery. You don’t deserve her…. Heck… you don’t deserve a mate,” she said in a bitter tone.
I snapped my head towards her in disbelief. I couldn’t believe that my mother…. My own biological mother…. She cursed me... She stormed out of the room and banged on the door so hard that the hinges almost came out of the wall. I was now glued to my place near the window. I was having a hard time understanding that my mother had just cursed me.
I felt my knees go jelly and fell to the ground, still staring blankly at the now-closed door. My mind was now completely numb. The pain in my chest was so intense that I felt difficulty in breathing. I clutched my chest to get some relief, but there was no relief for me now. I was now on the verge of losing my sanity. Everything….. everything messed up for me just because of my one wrong decision. Now I had no one with me…. I was all alone…. Just like Avery was…. In her dreamland.
Alexander’s P.O.V.
“Alpha Adrian is really a courageous fool. He wants to go against me when the whole world is against him,” I mocked Alpha Adrian in a bitter tone. Theo chuckled and jerked his head lightly. “What?” I asked him annoyingly this time. I was really annoyed with the failure of the last meeting with Alpha Adrian. I was a businessman. Of course, I wanted to earn more money and that piece of land was nothing but a gold mine.
“This is not about Alpha Adrian, Alex, but this is about his ex-future Beta, William. The boy is just a teenager but his business sense is much better than any other person in that pack. Not even Alpha Adrian is of his level,” he said in a light tone, but I raised my brows in surprise. It was really hard to impress Theo in terms of business tactics. So, it was hard to believe that he praised someone younger than him.
“Don’t give me this look, Alex. I am telling the truth. He agreed to have a business arrangement with us, but at first, he wants to find the solution to all the problems that are related to already existing factories and cropland. He asked me for a few more days to find the solution,” he said further, and I tilted my head a little.
“What if he can’t find a solution? What will we do in that situation?” I asked him in a cold tone while stopping in my tracks. We were coming back from our evening training. He stopped with me too. “I don’t know why but I have faith in his wisdom,” he answered me in a calm tone, but my eyes almost popped out of their sockets in shock.
“It’s the bad luck of the Blood Moon Pack that he wants to leave the pack. He is planning to transfer him and his sister to the Royal Pack after she wakes up. He hasn’t shared this piece of information with anyone, but I investigated him. He was in constant touch with the prince. Both William and Avery are fine warriors, and they have earned a good name in spite of their young ages,” Theo told me further in the same tone.
“He is ready to leave the second highest position in the pack because of what happened to his sister?” I asked him in a shocked tone, still having my eyes wide open. I even forgot to blink for a moment. Theo nodded while closing his eyes calmly. I clicked my tongue while lifting my brows a little and lowered my head while thinking about that pup.
Beta is the second-highest position after Alpha in a pack. If Theo is right about that pup and he is really that intelligent, then, it was really a big loss of the Blood Moon Pack. I narrowed my eyes when a through crossed my mind. “Keep your eyes on the condition of his sister, Theo, and inform me whenever she wakes up,” I instructed Theo and started walking towards the pack house. “What do you have in your mind?” Theo asked me in a curious tone, but I just smirked while forming a plan.
