My Decision

William’s P.O.V. “Your son has already ruined the reputation of your pack, Alpha Adrian. No pack wants to associate itself with you and your pack. We still want to work with you. You should consider this opportunity and collaborate with us. It’s your luck that Alpha Alexander doesn’t give a s**t to what others thought,” Beta Theo said in a sassy tone as if they were doing us a favor by starting a business venture on our land. Alpha Adrian had a cold face but I knew that he was pissed. In the past two months, he had suffered so much humiliation because of Nathan, and still, he had to tolerate this beta. Alpha Adrian looked at me and I cleared my throat. I didn’t want to take part in this meeting but he insisted because I was pursuing business administration and was already taking care of our other businesses in both the human world and our world. “We know what you are implying, Beta Theo, and yes, I agree with you that this can be a good opportunity for us to get some business for our pack. I am sure that you have already done your homework on our pack’s financial status. So, I am not denying the bitter truth related to our financial status, but,” I clicked my tongue while jerking my head a little and straightened my back. “That part of the river is important for our two factories, which are situated a little far from that place. If we start any construction there, it will stop the water supply to those factories and also to some parts of our agricultural land,” I explained the situation once again to him. Alpha Adrian had given this explanation to Alpha Alexander so many times already but he was adamant about starting that business there. Beta Theo chuckled and looked at me with amusement. I didn’t know how Alpha Adrian was tolerating his presence but his arrogance was now taking a toll on me. “This is my personal opinion about you, William,” he said with the same smirk on his face, making me raise my brows. “You are a far better alpha than your future alpha, William. This is our second meeting, but you always impressed me with your wisdom,” he commented on me, making me stiffen. I didn’t look at Alpha Adrian this time but lowered my eyes. Nathan was already a sore topic for him, and this comparison was like rubbing salt on his wounds. “Don’t take this comment to heart, Alpha Adrian. I am a beta and call itself-boasting, but I have a keen sense of assessing someone’s potential. In our last meeting with you, your son was there, but most of the time he tried to persuade you to take this opportunity,” he said in a light tone, and I just listened to him. “I am not sure about how deep his knowledge about pack matters, but I also agree with future Beta William that the construction will affect some of the already established businesses and crop production in this area,” he continued but I raised my hand to stop in the middle of his bantering. “I am here as a representative of my pack, Beta Theo. I am not the future beta of this pack,” I told him in a firm tone while looking straight into his eyes. “William,” my father immediately called me in a warning tone, but Beta Theo raised his brows in surprise. “I know that I shouldn’t raise this topic here, but I want you to stop calling me future beta,” I requested him in a firm tone, ignoring my father’s warning. I had already informed him about my decision but he still had hope that I would change it. “We can talk about this later, William,” Alpha Adrian said in a stiff tone. I lowered my head and took a deep breath. “I am sorry, Alpha, for not obeying your orders, but I don’t mean any disrespect to you. You are a father figure to me, and you know this. I have a sister to take care of who has been in a coma for two months. No one knows when she will wake up. I don’t want any distractions for myself. She is my one and only priority for the rest of my life,” I answered him in a respectful tone but stayed firm on my decision. “I really admire your courage to stand up against an alpha and his beta, William, but your love for your sister has increased the respect that I have for you in my heart. I would have done the same thing if this has had happened to my sister,” Beta Theo spoke in a light but firm tone and a bitter smile crept onto my lips. Avery was not my sister but she was my life. How could I serve the person who is responsible for her condition? Nathan was once my best friend but I didn’t even want to see him. I didn’t tell my father that I was planning to transfer both Avery and myself to the royal pack after she woke up. There is no way that I will let her stay here even for a minute. “As for the proposal, I guess you should find some solutions to the problems that you can face. You know Alpha Alexander very well. If he wants something, he will do everything to get it. I don’t need to elaborate on what I am trying to say here,” Beta Theo said with a sigh and stood up from the chair. I also stand up with him to show my respect for him. I was the youngest person in the room. So, I didn’t want to appear rude in front of him. “I will take my leave, Alpha Adrian, but I have a request,” Beta Theo said in a calm tone. I looked up at him questioningly. “What is it, Beta Theo?” Alpha Adrian asked in a stiff tone. I could say that Alpha Adrian was not happy with the outcome of this meeting. “I want to see William’s sister,” he said while looking at me, and I blinked in confusion. “I am sorry, Beta Theo, but I can’t approve your request. Avery is like a daughter to me,” Alpha Adrian replied to him in a polite tone, refusing his request. “I mean no disrespect towards her, Alpha Adrian. Her survival is proof of how strong she is. I admire courage and this is the only reason that I want to see her. I don’t know if I'll come back here on a friendly term again or not, so I want to take advantage of this opportunity,” Beta Theo explained in the same tone. Alpha Adrian looked at me this time. Our whole world knew about Alpha Alexander and Beta Theo. Alpha Alexander was known for his fierceness and ruthlessness, whereas Beta Theo was known for his wisdom and business tactics. He was also a fierce warrior, but he was one of the best Betas in our world. I felt that there was something more than what he told Alpha Adrian. “Okay… let’s go, then,” I said while pursing my lips as I was now eager to know his real intention. The way he explained his thoughts, it was clear to me that he didn’t want to reveal the real reason for seeing Avery. “Are you sure, William?” Alpha Adrian asked me in a concerned tone. I passed a tight smile while nodding to him that it was okay. I looked at Dad, who was still disappointed with me for announcing my decision once again in front of a stranger. I sighed and looked back at Beta Theo. “Lead the way, William,” Beta Theo asked me and I started walking towards the door, followed by him. We both walked out of Alpha’s office silently. A few omegas who were working in the living room stood up and bowed in front of us. Luna Bethany was still nowhere to be found. I scoffed internally when I realized that she must be in Nathan’s room. Alpha Adrian requested the king let Nathan stay in his room instead of in the dungeons. He said that Avery was like a daughter to him. Still, he wanted Nathan not to suffer for what he did to Avery. I couldn't believe that I spent my whole life between these two-faced people. Nathan rejected Avery for Martha, and Martha accused him of everything. It was her birthday in a few days, and she was looking forward to finding her fated mate. I knew that she only wanted to escape from the disaster. I felt sympathy for her mate now. She was nothing but a manipulative b***h. “Have you found your mate yet, William?” Beta Theo asked me after some time. We are now heading towards our house in my car. “Not yet, Beta Theo. I guess my mate is not in this pack,” I answered him respectfully while looking at the road. “If you want, you can come to my pack in search of your mate. You are more than welcome there,” he proposed, and a faint smile appeared on my lips. He chuckled once again. Finding my mate was not my priority now, and he understood this. “You want to know the real reason why I want to see your sister, right?” he asked me once again after some time. “To be honest, Beta Theo, yes… I am curious to know the real reason,” I answered him truthfully. “I…. had a sister, William…. Younger sister,” he said in a calm tone, but I stiffened when I felt sadness in his tone. “Sh… she died in front of my eyes a few years ago when my pack was attacked by an army of rogues. She…. She…was fourteen…she fought with two rogues in… in her human form, trying to save three pups,” he said further, and my hands trembled, making me tighten my grip on the wheel. There was silence in the car as he didn’t say another word, and I had no courage to ask him anything. Whatever happened with Avery, I … I was glad that she was alive. Being an older brother, I could understand his pain about losing his younger sister. Mine was still alive but he saw her dying in front of his eyes. “I am sorry,” I whispered after some time when the silence became too heavy to bear. I glanced at him and saw him looking outside the window. I decided not to say anything else and give him time to gather himself.
