Chapter 6
Clearing her throat and whipping her face away from his intense stare, Madison realized one thing- that Steve Armani would always make her flustered.
It was just some hours ago since she first met him and he already seemed to love teasing her.
While disentangling herself from his firm grip, Steve smirked as mischief filled his eyes. He had found something fun to do while disguising himself as an idler.
"Stop spitting out nonsense, Steve." She told him as her cheeks flushed a deep shade of red. "We both agreed to deal with our own stress and not dare interfere. "
She feigned a glare, not wanting to be seen as gullible.
But to her utmost surprise, Steve had raised his right hand, using the back of his palm to run her cheeks in a...dare she say- loving manner?
"Your cheeks are burning. " He mused, his eyes twinkling with mischief as he watched her eyes grow big in undiluted shock.
Biting her bottom lip, Madison slapped his hand away and this time, her glare was real.
"You better watch it," She stated in a low but firm tone before sauntering towards the bed.
'He was gutsy', Madison thought.
He was already acting around and trying to flirt with her. Was he a f**k boy? Cause he gave off such vibes.
Well, he better respect himself and keep a reasonable distance, for she was in no way in love with him or his idleness. All she wanted was to see her kind care giver- Ms Hannah live.
And that could only be fulfilled if she persever in this marriage.
The Slamming shut of the door reminded Madison that she couldn't sleep until Steve leaves the bathroom.
She had to stay awake until he was done taking his bathe and then leave the room for him to dress. Already, she had planned to give him nothing more than eight minutes to change into his night wear and evacuate the room for her.
Turning on the bed, Madison held her face inbetween her hands as support as she thought of today. She had expected her wedding night to be a memorable one but here she was, setting and respecting the boundaries Steve had warned her not to cross, as well.
They both wanted to deal with their individual stress. But somewhere in Madison's heart she wished he wasn't what she had imagined him to be- a f**k boy.
He could do whatever he wanted. But she kind of hoped that he wouldn't cheat. Or at least, if he did, she didn't want to find out.
She didn't want to feel the kind of hurt she had felt when Amos had cheated on her. Even though this time around, it might not be hurt due to the fact that they're lovers. But due to the fact that she have been proved to be an incompetent partner, twice.
Suddenly realizing, the thoughts swirling in her head, Madison scoffed. Why was she using the word 'cheat' when they were in no way lovers?
And why would she feel hurt if at all Steve was a chronic f**k boy or an incorrigible flirt?Besides he had warned her of infidelity so he too should better stick to his rule.
Rolling her eyes, Madison decided that she cared not.
She yawned loudly as she wondered what Steve was still doing in the bathroom. Even her, as a woman, didn't spend as much time in there.
Or was he up to something else?
Tilting her head towards the mahogany door that deemed it fit to get opened at that moment, Steve emanated out of the bathroom.
Impulsively, her eyes fell on his hard chest that had beads of water that had rolled off his wet hair. She was utterly speechless as her lips parted slightly and her pivotal joint forgot how to turn her head back to its original point.
Steve stared briefly at her and wondered if she had been staring at the door ever since he went in and the mere thought of it made him chuckle.
"At least, try to close your parted lips, Madison." He shook his head while going through his box, in search of something comfortable.
Madison breathed out not realizing that she had been holding her breathe ever since. She closed as lips as well. And she was grateful that she had not drooled while gawking at him. Else, she knew not the shade of embarrassment, she would have herself painted.
"Uuh..." Madison blinked her eyes, her mind replaying the sound of her name from his mouth.
It was so smooth and... and nice.
It was the first of him calling her by her name, asides when they had taken their vows. And she wondered...
"You wouldn't mind me undressing in front of you or would you?"He said casually, holding up a pair of shorts.
"Huh?" Madison gasped, eyes nearly bulging out if its socket as she jumped down from the bed, leaving the room.
Steve got changed within few minutes as he opened the door Madison had shut on her way out, with an old duvet in his hand.
"Have a good night." He murmured, moving aside for Madison who hurried inside in the room, shutting the door behind her.
Sighing out in relief, Madison cursed herself for acting foolishly.
Why did she run inside the room in that manner? And what would it cost her to return the night greeting he had given her?
She bit her bottom lip as she told herself that she had to drop her naivety and act like a normal woman would.
She was sure that she wasn't the first woman involved in a marriage of convenience neither would she be the last.
Walking into the sitting room, Steve was full of thoughts as he plopped down on one of the old sofas, frowning at its hard texture.
His secretary had informed him of the Roberts first daughter's debauchery and flirtatious behavior but Madison was nothing like that.
She seemed simple and naive.
Or did she change?
For him, nay?
Adjusting his frame on the uncomfortable sofa, Steve decided that something was certainly fishy.
