Chapter 5
"Of course, yes. Why would you be asking me such ridiculous and condescending question, Steve?!" She snapped, anxiety nearly taking hold of her.
What had come over this man, for Christ sake. And why was his nose down on the ground sniffing like a dog?!
He mustn't find out! Else, her adoptive parents would stop taking care of the kind caregiver's medical expenses.
No, no. Steve Armani would never find out!
"I apologize. You got it all wrong. I..." He trailed off as he he couldn't bring himself to complete that statement.
He was really disconcerted.
When he had sent one of his men to investigate the first daughter of the Roberts, he had been reported back to. That she was involved in debauchery.
And due to that, he disguised him self as an idler who has never accomplished anything in his life to frustrate her and get her to file for a divorce, in a matter of months.
But all his efforts to frustrate Madison seemed to be a thing of impossibility. As she had even gone forward with the wedding preparations, even after hiring people to slander his name.
And while they had returned back from their wedding, she didn't have a disgusted look as she sighted the house. Even when he had showed her around the tiny kitchen and eye bleeding store.
She just nodded and seemed to be fine with it.
Steve was perplexed. He had expected to get on her nerves with the small old building. But nay, that did not work.
"I'll be going to take a shower." Madison mumbled, rolling her eyes and rummaging her box for a towel.
He was really really curious about this woman. And wanted to know the true her.
His mother had pleaded with him on her death bed, that he should marry the first daughter of the Roberts. And due it being the last thing his beloved mother had asked of him before kicking the bucket, he vowed to fulfill her last wish.
Which was why he had ventured to propose marriage to the Roberts.
Few minutes later, Madison came out of the bathroom in a short, peng nightie. Her hair was still wet. And she had not the luxury of a dryer, here.
Drying her long, brown hair with a towel, she paused just few inches away from the bed.
"I wonder how we would sleep. There's only this bed in the entire house." She stated, a bit scared of what his response would be.
Ever since they had stepped into the room, she had been secretly wondering how they would spend their night. As there was but only this bed.
And she greatly feared being told to sleep on the sofa. She always despised sleeping on the sofa. For whenever, she falls asleep on the sofa while watching a TV show, she would wake up with a hurting shoulder and aching head.
If the cozy sofa of the Roberts could cause her such discomfort, how much more the absurd sofa in the living room of this house.
"Don't worry. I don't mind sleeping on the sofa. That was my bed before I could afford to get this bed." He said.
Although, he worried greatly about himself and the kind of discomfort that hard and rough sofa would give him, he decided not to make things any more awkward for them.
Hence, his offer.
Madison almost squealed. Thanks heavens that she didn't. For she was filled with so much bliss that not only would she not sleep on the sofa but this idler of a husband was compassionate.
Or was she jumping fast into conclusion?
"You don't have to... you know, do that. I mean... are you okay with sleeping on the sofa?" She asked to fulfill all righteousness.
She just didn't want to be seen as inconsiderate. Hence, her question to him.
Earnestly, she hoped Steve wouldn't change his mind. And then, she would sleep on the sofa and wake up feeling like a thousand needles were pierced on her neck.
Steve chuckled.
He knew she was just acting up. He could see the delight in her eyes when he had chosen to sleep on the sofa, rather than the bed.
Taking slow but steady strides towards her, Steve fixed his eyes on Madison who suddenly felt shy and froze, her right glued on the towel on her hair.
Why was he walking like that towards her? And in just that tiny towel wrapped around his waist, such that he looked more drool worthy than ever.
Cursing her stupid limbs that had decided at that moment not to get into action, she stared at the evenly toned skin of her husband, wondering how hard his abs would be.
A dark smile crossed Steve's lips as he knew he got her whipped. Then making an opportunity out of her current state, he gently held her shoulders and pulled her into his warm hands.
Madison gasped. Her legs shaking, as though she would fall anytime soon. But his strong arms, took care of that.
He gazed right into her eyes. Suddenly taking interest in the blue of those eyes that reminded him of heaven his mother had spoken of. He almost got drowned in the swirls of emotion in those doe like eyes, as flakes of gold danced around her orbs.
He thought she was beautiful.
Too beautiful, even.
"Would you rather, that we become a true couple?"
He teased, knocking the remaining breathe off Madison's lungs.
