Chapter 7
The first rays of sunlight seeped through the shabby curtains, lighting up the room as Madison tossed to and fro, her lips stretching into a tired yawn.
She had gone to bed so late yesterday as so many thoughts had occupied her mind.
Sitting up on her bed, Madison resisted the urge to lay right back on the bed and continue her journey to the dreamland. She was married to a jobless man so she knew there was no need of staying back at home and doing whatever she wanted.
Else, hunger would be the death of her. And that, Madison greatly detested.
Had she been married to a well-to-do man who she loved as well, she would have stayed back and enjoyed her honeymoon. But no such thing could happen as she had only taken the day off yesterday for her wedding.
Knowing fully well that her colleagues might say shitty stuffs about her immediate resumption, Madison cared not as she muttered a word of prayer and proceeded to dress her not-so scattered bed.
"All this is for you, Ms Hannah." Madison would always comfort herself with.
The only way she could ever pay the kind caregiver back for all her love and goodwill towards her while she was in the orphanage was to sacrifice the glorious marriage she had hoped for and have her adoptive parents help settle the bills.
Humming a song, Madison realized how stressful the world of the married could be. She would take her bathe and still make food for Steve and herself before going to the design studio she worked at.

Steve busied himself in the tiny kitchen making breakfast. He had decided to not be an entire nuisance by laying down all long, waiting to be served breakfast.
Carefully dicing the onions and fresh tomatoes he had gotten from the small fridge, he proceeded to make egg sauce and chips.
Once he was done, he dished it inside a plate, placed them on the kitchen counter and went back to the living room where he sat waiting for Madison.
As though on cue, Madison come out of the room just then in her red jumpsuit and black heels. Her hair was packed in a ponytail and she had deliberately let down few golden locks which accentuated her tanned skin.
"Hey," She looked at Steve with annoyance etched all over her face.
"Hey," Steve said monotonously, studying her expression at the same time taking in her appearance.
He loved the red colour on her and even more, how the jumpsuit brought out the moderation of her hips. Undoubtedly, she looked like a cute but fierce cat.
A smirk crossed his lips as he tore his eyes off her body, staring right into her eyes. As though, he was glaring into her soul, seeing all of her hidden secrets.
Finding his gaze uncomfortable, Madison let out a cough as she moved towards the kitchen, hoping to fix one or two things for Steve before leaving.
And of course talk things out with Steve later when she comes back, about the chores.
The aroma of egg sauce wafted into her nose as she walked into the kitchen, suddenly feeling hungry. She furrowed her brows in disconcertion as she proceeded towards the well covered ceramic plate sitting on the counter.
Opening it, Madison was speechless. She never expected Steve to have done something like this.
Impulsively, a small smile broke out of her face as she covered the plate, turning around with the living room in mind.
She never knew Steve was so thoughtful.
"Like what you see?"
Steve smiled, startling her. For she didn't know he had followed her into the kitchen.
He was happy that he had made her smile and that was so strange to him.
"Do you want me having a cardiac arrest?" She placed her hand on her chest, glaring at Steve who shrugged.
"At least, not yet." He said casually, causing Madison to roll her eyes.
"So how about you eat breakfast while I freshen up inside?" He asked, exiting the kitchen without waiting for a response.
Madison shrugged, wondering what sort of strange man she was living with.

"You seem like you have received eight rounds of intense love making." Clarissa muttered, teasing Madison who rolled her eyes.
"Shut Up, Issa."
"Oh, now you want to silence me and make me devoid of the gist." Her only close friend at Vitton Jewelry Design Studio, went on to whine.
Madison had come to work with a pleasant smile etched on her face as she went around with her duties, which perplexed Clarissa.
For even though she didn't know much details, she knew that the marriage didn't really please Madison.
"Gosh, Issa you're a darned pest!" Madison looked away from her laptop where she was doing a CAD design for a client who had sent a sketching of a seed bead creation constructed around a pendant for recreation.
"You just seemed too happy and..."
"And what?" Madison glared at her, wondering what sort of distraction she was faced with.
"You resumed... "Clarissa paused, suddenly shaking her head. "Nothing."
"You are yet to cut, shape nor inlay the emerald gem Mrs Marcus had asked of. And mind you, she'd be coming tomorrow to see for herself what you're up to for her young lover¹s engagement ring. " Madison listed, trying to divert the topic and remind a procrastinating Clarissa of what awaited her the day after.
"Woah, so she's actually proposing to that peng young man. Wouldn't she..."
"Not again, Issa. No discussing of clients personal life, please. " An exhausted sigh escaped Madison's lips.
"At least, not with me." She added, going back to what she was doing.
"Fine," Clarissa stood up, rolling her eyes in annoyance as she flipped her long, dyed black with few locks of red, wavy hair. "I'll leave without telling you what I really wanted to."
"Alright babes," Madison retorted, chuckling.
She knew Issa so well and she needed no sorcery to know that she had nothing to say and just wanted to spend time.
Which once caused a huge problem at the studio and had led to them being queried. And Madison wasn't ready for such repetition, again.
Clarissa chuckled darkly and decided not to press any further and meet with Felicia Robert- Madison's step sister who she knew had nothing good up her sleeve.
Meanwhile, Madison had finally succeeded in perfecting the CAD design as she proceeded to send it to her client for review.
She was excited at the pace at which she was going about her work today and she was sure, that now Issa was gone with her distractions, she could finish faster. And hopefully visit her kind caregiver.
