“You came to find me,” Lucie said. We were laying awkwardly on her bed. Both of us on our backs, my head on her shoulder, and hers on mine. I turned to look at her, feeling her nose smoosh slightly against mine, and smiled. Her eyes were wide, so wide. I wondered if she realized how wide her eyes were all the time. So bright and studious, always wide, wanting to learn everything. I felt like every time she looked at me she could see right through me. Gently, I lifted my hand, pressing it to the back of her head, and ran my fingers through her hair, pulling the hair tie out in the process. She let out a soft giggle that sent butterflies fluttering through me. “You always pull out my hair ties.” She said.
