I knocked on the door while my companion is hiding behind me and trembling.
We waited patiently, but it seems like there's no one living here. I knocked again and making it louder this time.
"I guess no one's home. Should we barge in?" I let out and asked him. And, his eyes widened and held me by the shoulders to stop me from my plan.
"They could be just waiting inside for us to get in, and if we get in, they will ambush us." He whispered, and how good it is to have a very coward and imaginative companion?
I just shook my head in frustration and knocked again.
When I'm about to bang the door, it opened but no one greeted us.
"Don't get in. I tell you, Maddie, this is a trap. I have seen this in horror movies." There he goes again with his crazy imagination.
I peeked inside and it's a bit dark. Then, I slowly walked inside and he held my shoulder tighter.
"Maddie, don't." He whispered scarily and I just shrugged it off.
"Then, stay here," I told him but he followed me inside.
"No. Don't leave me." He said and his body is so near me. I pushed him off and he then held my arm instead. Should I knock him down already? He's so damn annoying.
"Hello! Anybody here?" I yelled and the sacred cat behind me is literally shaking out of fear.
Nobody answered and I kept looking around. The interior of the house is skillfully designed and it's like a very old house. Everything here is made of wood.
"Maddie, this is a bad idea. I think we should go now." He whispered and I didn't bother to listen to him. We need someone to ask if where could be the way back to the city, or if they have a phone.
We went into the kitchen, and there, we saw somebody's cooking. I looked at Chrys and his eyes are about to come out of his eye sockets while signaling me to go out.
I looked back at the person and it's not there anymore. Woah!
"Where did she go?" I asked and Chrys is speechless. I guess he's right after all that this is a witch's house. f**k, we are in trouble.
"Have a seat."
Our souls almost jumped out of our bodies as we heard somebody talked behind us. How did she get in there?
"Uh... We... Umm." I can't compose a word to say since this old woman is really scary. She offered us two wooden stools and motioned us to sit down.
"I assume you are tired from your journey. Now, why don't you take a seat and I will prepare you a meal." She said and Chrys is hiding behind me.
I just stood there frozen and I don't know what to feel. Am I scared? No, I am terrified.
"Oh, pardon me for not introducing myself." She said and paused.
I gulped while trying my best to keep myself from shaking out of fear and hurriedly run out. Not to be mean, but this old woman really looks like a witch in movies. She got white hair, wrinkled skin, and she's wearing a cloak, and her voice is so scratchy.
"I am Wondi Parros. I am known as the Witch of the West." She said, and with that, my eyes widened with my mouth hanging open.
"I told you, Maddie," Chrys whispered and I just nodded my head slowly.
I don't know that witches still exist nowadays. Or we could be just dreaming, no, this could be a nightmare.
"I have been waiting for your arrival for three days, and I am glad that you came on time, Heroes of Sadonia." She stated and okay, this is going crazy.
"Woah, uh... hold up. Mrs. Parros, sorry to bother you ...umm. We just happen to come to your house to ask if you have a phone?" I said and asked courageously.
Her face is in a look of confusion. But honestly, we are more confused.
"You came here to save Sadonia from the last dragon." She replied and that's it. Dragons? This woman is crazier than Chrys.
"Maddie, we better run, now," Chrys whispered and I took a seat instead.
"Umm... Mrs. Parros, we are actually lost and we just want to go home. Do you know where could be the road back to the city?" I said and asked her and she just smiled at me. A creepy smile.
"You are not lost. You are just on time and in place. I will give you a map going to the palace of Sadonia and there you need to see the king, and he will permit you to lead the warriors." She answered and this is going nowhere. I think she really is crazy. We have no king in here.
"Well, we just need the way back to the city. And, we are not heroes and we just want to go home. I guess we should keep going. Thanks for your time, Mrs. Wondi Parros. And sorry to bother you." I told her and about to stand up to leave.
"Sadonia needs you. This coming full moon is the time in which the dragon will attack Sadonia, and everyone you knew will be dead. You are just our only hope." She said and I just stared at her like she's out of her mind. Dragons? Are we in a fantasy world?
"Dragons are just myths. And, if they ever existed, it was a very long time ago. And we don't know what place is Sadonia. We are just some high school students that are lost in the woods and we want to go home. So please, if you'll excuse us." I said and about to walk out when she blocked the way. Okay.
"Let me guess, you fell inside a deep hole, trailed in an underground river, and fell from a waterfall. Am I correct?" She stated and that sent shivers on my spine. We didn't say anything about that.
"How the heck did you know that?" I asked her in disbelief. We told her nothing and in case she can read minds, she really knows, but that's not possible.
"Your arrival is on the prophecy. You saved the kingdom from the dragon. Many people may not believe that, but I do. Some of us do." She uttered in a very serious tone and it made me think. This is nonsense. I should have listened to this asshole not to get in here.
"The people need you." She added and went to get something. I looked at Chrys and he was like thinking deep. I just don't know what to say.
"Here. These are what my father predicted to happen. He wrote everything in here." She said and handed us a big book. It looks like a very old book and its pages are made of cloth, I guess it's cloth in a dirty white color.
Then, I opened it and there are drawings and symbols on it.
"He wrote it using his blood. He dreamt of those and he knows that it wants to say something about the future." She said and I kept looking at the figures in the book. Chrys is looking at it too curiously.
"That looks like an old storybook." He let out and I turned to the next pages and there are written some symbols that I'm not familiar with. There are figures of dragons and people. I presume it's a girl and a boy. So, this is what she says that is us. I closed it and placed it on the table.
"Do you have a phone, Mrs. Parros?" I asked her and she looks hopeful. What is her problem?
"I don't know what is a phone, but I guess I don't have it. Please, the future is in your hands. You are our only hope." She said and I looked at my hands, then motioned Chrys that we have to go.
"Let's go, Chrys. Thank you for your time, Mrs. Parros, but we really need to go." I said and walked out of the kitchen. Maybe we can find other people around here.
"You have traveled a long way and a long time just to be here. You will not be able to return to your home if the dragon will kill everyone in Sadonia. We are your way home. The four witches of Sadonia are the only people that can bring you back to your time." She explained and I stopped in my tracks. Holy crap! Did she say a long time? Time travel? This crazy old witch is totally lost in her mind.
"Excuse me? What are you talking about?" I asked her. Is she threatening us?
"Hundreds of years. You are way back hundreds of years from your present time." She stated and we just laughed. It's confirmed, she really is crazy.
"You know what, old lady? This is bullshit. We're leaving." I asserted and ran fast to the door while dragging Chrys behind me.
We are about to reach the door when it suddenly shut closed. We gasped and damn it, we're in big trouble.
Then, I looked back and the witch is on her way to us.
"Damn it, Maddie, I told you that witches are real. What should we do now?" He said nervously while hiding behind me. I am panting and she's getting nearer to us. f**k it, I guess she has superpowers.
"The only way to go back to your time is to defeat the last dragon." She states and here she goes again with her dragons. Should I knock her out? But that would be too violent. Geez, how do we get out of here?
"Lady, we don't know what you are talking about. Can you just let us go, please?" I said and begged her.
"Even if I will let you go. I can't bring you back to your time. I need the other three witches of Sadonia, and they are very hard to please. They will only agree if you will fulfill the prophecy." She explained, and should we believe her?
My thoughts are going somewhere deeper. Witches, dragons, kingdoms, time travel, what else? Princesses? Damn it!
"Chrys? Do you believe her?" I asked him and he just sighed.
"I don't know, Maddie. She seems like saying the truth." He answered, and of course, he is still a five-year-old that believes in magic.
"Okay, Mrs. Parros. How do we defeat this creature?" I let out and asked her.
Her face lightened up when she heard my words. If it is true, then, why not enjoy the adventure. I just hope that she'll finally let us go after this.
"Maddie, are you crazy?" Chrys said and I just tapped him. Because if she will let us go, we'll just find our way back home. Who cares about dragons? They're just myths anyway.
"Listen very well." She started and we are listening.
