A Dire Wolf's Mate

Alpha Michael's POV

I made that promise to Rayna that she and her unborn child would be safe in my pack. I wouldn't let anyone harm her. She told me everything, how she was beaten nearly to death, treated like trash and even raped. She caught a lucky break when she escaped with the help of an unknown man ., but luck ran out when she conceived a rapist's baby. She thought of aborting the pup, but the thought made her sick. To help her through all this, she gained her wolf, and even found her fated mate a bond so strong to pull one another so close. She got lucky. My beta and best friend Rick Hale was a force on his own. No wolf ever stood up to the occasion. I too had the feel of a fated mate, but fate would only take my mate away shortly after Collins' birth.

“Can we talk Alpha?” Rayna snuck up on me. I didn't hear her.

“ Of course, Rayna, please, come up to my office. Would you like a refreshment?”

“ No, that's all right, I needed to discuss something rather odd and I was told by her I could trust you and only you.”

“Who are you referring to?”

“The moon goddess, she spoke to me in a dream about my pup, Ruby. I'm scared for her.”

“Now, why would you be scared? She's only a few days old.”

“The goddess told me I'd be receiving a special wolf to hold on to until Ruby comes of age, and that when the time comes we must push her to leave for her own safety.”

“The goddess spoke directly to you? What do you mean by a special wolf?”

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Rayna's eyes flashed from her soft blue to her wolf Tyme’s yellow-hued to a bright emerald green.

“Impossible! Only the members of the royal bloodline have emerald eyes. When did this happen?

“ an hour after Ruby was born, I'm afraid my rapist may have been a part of the royal family.”

We agreed to keep this secret from Ruby and everyone else. If she was indeed of royal blood, it wouldn't be safe for her once she received her wolf. Even in my pack there would be blood shed, wolves would be fighting to mark and claim her as their own. I could enlist Collin to befriend her and keep her safe as she grows up, and I could enlist the help of a witch to hide her scent from unwanted attention.

I noticed Ruby’s scent was a bit different when she entered and demanded Collin to talk to her. They had always been good friends since childhood. I always knew her beauty was going to be a problem one day, as Collin was starting to notice her more and more. Who could blame him? Ruby became a beautiful woman, her long hair and perfect body the spitting image of her mother. He still hasn't found his mate. Once he finds out I chose Heather Bishop to be his chosen mate, he’s gonna lose his s**t. When I walked in the office I could clearly see Ruby's tears and feel Collins' frustration. As I drew closer it became more clear to me why Ruby needed to talk to Collin.

I had promised Rayna I’d protect her pup. I made up my mind. In order to protect her, I had to hurt her. I ordered my beta to my office and explained he would have to escort his daughter away shortly. He already knew Ruby wasn't his, but he didn't want to upset his mate, knowing what Rayna had been through. I swiftly walked back and grew upset when Ruby demanded this time. I knew the royal bloodline was more powerful with their aura and she hadn't noticed that it had taken an effect on me. That's when I ordered her out and banned her. I knew it was wrong, but I also knew I needed to keep my son from the truth. There can never be two alphas, and Ruby wasn't just royalty. She has alpha blood in her veins, which could only mean her father is a king!
