THE RETURN OF THE REJECTED LUNA

Chapter 8

Alaiza/Lilac's Pov

"I-I don't know anything about what happened to my cousin. D-Don't accuse me, Lilac," Luciana replied defensively. Her voice stuttered and worry showed in her pale face. I started to doubt that she knew something about what happened to my family.

Now I know why Luciana was chosen by Alpha Jacob to replace me. Because I think she knows something about the murderer of my family.

"Why did you suddenly look pale, Luciana? I was just asking. My voice remained calm while I was speaking but deep inside my heart was boiling with rage.

I wanted to directly ask Luciana what my family did wrong that my father was called a traitor and got killed. But I couldn't do that because if I asked her, she would find out that I was Alaiza.

"I'm not involved, okay? Put it in your head, Lilac. I have nothing to do with the death of my cousin's family," Luciana firmly said before she left without a word.

I tightly clenched my fist. Once I found out that my suspicions about Luciana's involvement in what happened to my family were true, I swore that I would make her pay for it.

I wiped away the few tears that came from my eyes. I am also responsible for what happened to my family. If I hadn't had a connection with Alpha Jacob, my parents and brother would still be alive today. We could have lived happily now. So until I get justice for their deaths I can't forgive myself either.

The sky seemed to be sympathetic to me as the surroundings suddenly darkened and in a few minutes the heavy rain began to fall slowly.

Because the surroundings were dark, I decided to stay on top of the hill even though my whole body was soaked. Eventually, the rain stopped and I slowly walked down the hill.

The path down the hill was slippery because of the mud, so I had to be extra careful with every step to avoid falling. Even though the hill wasn't that high, I would definitely be hurt if I fell down the hill, especially with large trees below that could hit my body if I fell.

I was almost at the center of the hill when suddenly something came from behind me and pushed me. I screamed as my body rolled down the hill.

It was probably about fifteen seconds before I felt the impact of my left arm hitting the body of a large tree.

Even though I felt pain and a bit dizzy, I had to stand up. I looked at the hill where I came from. I didn't see any human or animal passing by my path earlier. But my intuition was strong that it was a person, not an animal because I felt a hand pushing me.

It seems there's a person who wants to hurt or kill me. And the only person I think who wants to kill me is Luciana. She's the only one I know who has hatred towards me. Maybe because of jealousy. It's obvious that she likes Alpha Jacob. And because she thought that I was just looking like Alaiza, Luciana likely thinks that among the five candidates, I have a big chance of being chosen by Alpha Jacob to be his Luna.

What could be the reason why Alpha Jacob did not make Luciana his Luna of the Crescent Pack? That is the big question in my mind.

Because I didn't see even a shadow, I decided to just go back to Alpha Jacob's manor. My whole body was covered in mud, so I couldn't help but catch the eyes of people while walking back to Alpha Jacob's manor. But I don't care about their gazes. All I want is to get to the manor because I feel like I'm about to faint. My left arm is so painful. I think my arm was hit badly.

I saw Beth waiting for me at the manor gate, looking worried.

"What happened to you, Ma'am Lilac? Why do you look like that?" Beth approached me with concern. She saw my pale face while I was holding onto her arm.

"Help me, Beth. Take me to my room," I whispered to her.

Beth was about to lead me to my courtyard when we saw Alpha Jacob. His forehead furrowed when he saw my looks, especially my face.

"What happened to Lilac? Why does she look like that?" Alpha Jacob asked me what Beth had asked me earlier.

"Let's go, Beth." I didn't want to faint in front of Alpha Jacob. And I look embarrassed now. My whole body was covered in dirt.

I was suddenly startled when my body rose from the ground. It turned out that I was lifted by Alpha Jacob.

"I left you okay at the hill, but I saw you looking like this. What happened to you?'" Alpha Jacob asked while walking towards the East courtyard and lifting me up.

"Can you just ask me later? I want to sleep now," my voice weakened in response to him. I closed my eyes and allowed the darkness to swallow my whole being.

When I woke up, I found myself lying in bed. My whole body was already clean. I tried to get out of bed, but I only returned to lying down because my eyes suddenly spun.

"Please don't get up yet, Lilac," Alpha Jacob warned me as he entered my room and saw me trying to get up again." "You have a fever. You better rest now."

Alpha Jacob had a bowl of hot soup and a bottle that I'm sure contained medicine. I avoided my mouth when he tried to feed me the soup.

"You don't have to serve me, Alpha Jacob. Just call my maid and she'll take care of me," I told him in a cold voice.

"Don't bother her. I asked her to do something," Alpha Jacob replied. I just kept my mouth shut and let him feed me so I could take medicine. I don't want to be sick for long because it will only hinder my mission.

While Alpha Jacob was taking care of me, I couldn't help but feel sad. He is such a gentleman on the surface. Even if I was cold to him he still took care of me until I finished eating and took the medicine.

"Don't get up from bed yet, okay? You should rest so you can recover quickly."

"Thank you for taking care of me, but you can now leave my room, Alpha Jacob," I speak to him in a cold voice again.

Alpha Jacob looked at me with his mouth open as if he wanted to say something. However, at the last moment, his mind changed and he only swallowed his saliva before quietly leaving the room with a bowl of soup that was empty.

I just took a deep breath as I followed him. I don't want him to show kindness to me because I might fall in love with him again and eventually he'll kill me again when he discovers I'm Alaiza. I have to stop myself if I don't want to repeat the pain that Alpha Jacob made me feel before.
