Chapter Eleven

I slowed the car as I drove through the open gates of the Mont Blanc Consulate. It was a large stately building that had clearly seen better days. Some of the windows had been boarded up while the others looked like they were about to fall off. I parked my car and got out. It seemed to be abandoned and, for a fleeting moment, I felt the urge to turn back. I ran my finger over the poison ring, Liam was in there, and I would not leave without killing Jacob and rescuing my cousin. With that stamped into the back of my mind, I knelt, pressing my palm to the ground. I could feel the presence of two people in the building. An unknown signature and Liam's. Perfect I walked across the lawn, up the stairs to the front door, pushing the double doors open, the wood creaking against the rusted hinges. Just what kind of Alpha Prime would let their consulate fall into such disrepair? My already horrible opinion of Jacob deepened. I walked in, surprised to see the inside was… clean, almost clinical. What the hell? I walked down the hall leading to the foyer, looking around. "Ms Silverstone" I jumped, whirling around to see a petite woman standing behind me with a broad, almost plastic smile. "We've been expecting you, Ms Silverstone." I stared at her, she was a werewolf, but there was certainly something off about her. Whatever it was, she was still no match for an Alpha Prime like me. "I'm here, so where's my cousin?" I asked. “He is well” “Then take me to him.” I demanded. “Of course, I will have to search you for weapons first,” she stated. I let out a scoff, I wasn't stupid enough to bring a weapon in here even if it was the bastard's consulate. “I am unarmed.” “I insist.” She replied. Rolling my eyes, I took a step forward, shrugging off my jacket and spreading my arms. She frisked me before stepping back. “Satisfied?” I snapped. "This way please." She replied, turning towards a different hall. I ignored the wave of foreboding and followed her. The walls were a dull gray color with nothing on them, they reminded me of a therapist's office, and I wasn't a fan of those. She took a left onto another hallway and I felt like I was being led through a maze. "Look here, I am not taking another step until I have some sort of reassurance that Liam is here." I snapped. She turned to me, the same creepy smile still in place. "Liam Lark's well-being solely depends on your cooperation, so I suggest you don't do anything to endanger that." She stated. My eyes narrowed "You dare threaten me?!" "Of course not, it's just friendly advice." She replied, turning and continuing down the hall. I glared at her, wanting nothing more than to tear through the consulate for my cousin. I stamped down the feeling of frustration and followed her. After a few minutes, she came to a stop in front of a door. I watched as she opened and walked in, I followed suit. It was a waiting room. "Please sit." I eyed her but did as she said. "Can I get you something, water? Tea?" "How about my cousin?" I demanded. "I'll be back shortly." She left and without a second to waste, I knelt, placing a hand on the ground, closing my eyes and feeling the life in the consulate… my eyes snapped open. What the f.uck?! Liam's familiar body heat was gone… Shi.t… shi.t… Fuc.k… That b.itch!!! I could only feel her body heat aside from mine. I got to my feet, looking around for a hiding spot. I immediately found one behind the door and got in position waiting for her to come back. I didn't have to wait for long, the door swung open, and she walked in with a cup of tea. I grabbed her by the collar of her shirt, slamming her against the wall, the cup falling to the floor and shattering on impact. "Where is my cousin?! I know he isn't here." I snarled, morphing my fingers into claws. She let out a chuckle, the smile morphing into a smirk. "Took you long enough to figure that out. Some Alpha Prime you are." I growled at the insult, fighting the urge to rip her head off her shoulders. "Tell me where he is, or I will kill you." I wrapped my hand around her neck, pressing slightly. "First you tried to kill me in my own home, and now you want to kill me in my consulate, that's not nice Adelaide." She whispered, her eyes flashing red. What the fu.ck… Those eyes… How was he doing that?! "What's wrong?" She asked, tilting her head to one side, a feral smile on her lips. "You look… scared." I shoved back the fear, clenching my jaw. "You don't scare me. Why don't you stop being a coward and face me yourself, Jacob?" The smile disappeared as her red eyes darkened. "Oh I will… very soon." I barely had time to digest his words when pain erupted at the base of my head. A grunt escaped my lips and I fell to the ground, my vision blurring. I reached over to the back of my head, needing to get rid of the pain, but it was impossible. "It's not as bad as the little gift you gave me, but you'll definitely wake up with a nasty headache." She/Jacob squatted in front of me, the pain increasing every passing second. My surroundings blurred, the edges of my vision darkened. "See you soon Adelaide." The voice felt like an echo as I tilted forward and crashed to the ground, unconscious, before my head hit the floor. *********** *********** *********** That's a nasty injury I let out a groan, wrinkling my nose as the earthy scent of dirt filled my nostrils. I rolled over and opened my eyes, Nanna Ur's face staring down at me. "Ugh… where am I? What happened?" "Well… you're unconscious, Jacob knocked you out, and you are currently being transported back to Yellowstone." She answered. "In a crate…" I froze. "Did you just say a crate?!" "Yes, almost coffin like… ironic isn't it?" I glared at her, getting to my feet. "I need to wake up." "That won't be possible." She replied. "He hit you with something really powerful." "How did he even do that?! I have never seen a Lycan who was able to possess another soul… and his eyes." I trailed off, remembering how the red flickered like blood within his dark eyes. "Well, the Mont Blancs are special lycans," she replied. "Special lycans?" "Well, the rest are normal but Jacob, he's special," she explained. "Of course he will be. Who knows what evil entity he sold his soul to." I mumbled, sitting back on the ground. My head felt like it was going to explode. "Ugh, I don't feel so good." "You're going back under, just lay down, everything will be fine." She soothed as I laid back down, clutching at my head as the darkness engulfed me. ************ ************ ********** "Adelaide…" "Adelaide, wake up." A familiar voice pierced through the fog of unconsciousness, pulling me out. A groan escaped my lips and I rolled onto my side. "Adelaide!!!" A hand on my arm shook me. I opened my eyes, hissing as pain shot through my head. "That bastard!" I cried out, clutching my head and gritting my teeth. "Adelaide, what happened? Are you okay?" Liam asked. I peered up at him, my eyes watering due to the pain. He helped me into a sitting position. I leaned against him, closing my eyes as the pain lessened. "Are you okay?" He whispered. "Yeah." I whispered back. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you, are you okay?" "I'm okay, a bit roughed up but nothing to worry about," he answered. "How'd you get captured?" I asked, looking up at him. "I was on my way back from the meeting, following one of the back roads when I was ambushed, then they knocked me out." He explained. "By any chance was there a petite woman with a creepy smile present?" I inquired. "Yeah, how'd you know? She was the one who knocked me out." He replied, I groaned, sitting up. "She was the one at the consulate." "Why did you go to the consulate?!" "I received a letter telling me that you had been captured, and I had to surrender, or they would kill you. So I had to go, and I ended up meeting the creepy lady." Liam let out a groan, flopping against the wall. "We're dead. My dad is going to kill us, that is if we survive this. What do you think the bastard is going to do with us?" He asked. Sh.it. He had no idea what had happened. I stared at him, his hair was ruffled up, clothes torn and dirtied up. "So much has happened, you won't believe me if I tell you," I uttered. "Try me." "Well… an ancient deity appeared to me after we got back to Ridgeway Valley. It turns out my dad messed with something he shouldn't have on the orders of Eda." "Wait what?!" He asked, his brows knitted together. "What did he do?" I bit the inside of my cheek, wondering how I was going to tell him that the man who was responsible for his mother's death was my true mate. "He… he had my mate changed." Liam was silent. "Apparently, Eda told him to go meet a powerful witch, and she was able to…" "Jacob's your real mate, isn't he?" He asked, his voice flat. "Yes." "And my dad knew." A muscle in his jaw ticked, his hands curling into fists. I got up from where I was and sat facing him. "Don't be angry at your father, he has no control over my father." I whispered, placing a hand on his fist. He looked up at me, pain etched in his expression. "But he knew, he knew, and he could have done something about it, but he didn't. All of these could have been prevented." He spat. I cupped his face, wiping a tear away. I knew how much he missed his mother and how hard her death had been on him and to find out that it could have been avoided, it was devastating. Approaching footsteps had us turning to the cell bars. I got onto my feet, glaring at the man in front of us. He stared back at us, a look of indifference on his face. "My Alpha Prime has instructed me to inform you that you are to have dinner with him." He stated. Oh hell no I took a step closer to the cell door. "Tell your Alpha Prime to go fu.ck himself. The day I have dinner with him will be the day hell freezes over." I snapped. He raised a brow. "He also said should you refuse, your cousin will bear the brunt of your decision." "Do your worse." Liam snarled, getting to his feet. The man glanced at him before turning back to me. "The decision is yours. I advise you to do the sensible thing." I knew Jacob Mont Blanc wasn't the type to bluff, he would hurt Liam if I refused him and the last thing I want or needed was for anything to happen to him. Besides, this could be the chance I need. Dinner would be an easy avenue to poison and be done with him. "Fine." "What?! Adelaide no!!!" Liam stormed over, turning me to face him. "I am not letting you have dinner with that cold-blooded killer. I'll handle whatever they do to me." "Liam, it's fine." I assured him. "But…" "I've got something potent enough to kill an Alpha Prime. I'm going to see if I can slip it into his drink or something." His eyes widened before he took a step back and turned to the man. "If anything happens to my cousin, you'll be the first person I kill." The man scoffed, clearly not phased by Liam's threats, before opening the cell door. A woman holding a cloth bag walked in. "Here you go, a change of clothes." She explained. I glared at the woman, my lips curling up at her. "I agreed to your Alpha's dinner, but you're insane if you think I am changing," I snapped. She recoiled, glancing at the man who gestured for her to leave. The nerve of them!!! As if I wanted to look nice for a murderer. "This way then." I squeezed Liam's hand and made my way out of the cell, following the man along the narrow passageway, up the stairs to a familiar hallway. The same one I had stalked some weeks back when I went looking for Jacob. I let out a shaky breath, clenching my fists as we approached the door. Two guards were stationed at both sides. They opened the door as we approached. The man stopped and stood aside. "The Alpha Prime is waiting." I pulled my shoulders back, steeling myself before walking into the room. The door closed behind me and right there, standing at the very end of the long dinner table with an arm resting on the back of the chair, was the devil himself. "Adelaide Silverstone in the flesh..."
