Chapter Ten

2275 Words
Dread settled low in my gut as I stared at the ring in my hand. Liam wasn't a careless person to just drop it, seeing as it belonged to his mother. My eyes moved to the flower and letter. Was everything connected? There's only one way to find out. I reached for the letter, unfolding it. Surrender or Liam Lark dies. I stared at the words, there was no address, no sender's information. But I knew exactly who had sent that message. Fu,ck… this cannot be happening!! Anger bubbled within me, causing me to scrunch up the letter and throw it against the wall. How dare he?!!! After everything, he still had the nerve to threaten me. A growl escaped my lips and I got to my feet and began pacing up and down the length of my room. He had the audacity to come into my continent and abduct my cousin! I spied the flower and stormed over to my bed, snatching it up. I was sure the murderous bastard had placed the damned flower on my tombstone, but I would make sure he would have no tombstone to be remembered by when I was done with him. I crushed the petals, letting the crumbled up petals fall to the floor. I was going to make him regret this if it was the last thing I did. ********** ********** *********** JACOB MONT BLANC "Prime, I really suggest we remove the bullet, your wound is not healing." The healer pleaded. I ignored him, focusing instead on the photo my men had sent me. Adelaide fuc.king Silverstone, standing in between tombstones, holding the black dahlia I had asked them to place on her grave. For years, I had thought she was dead, forever out of my reach. I had thought her father had succeeded in separating me from my true and destined mate. I shifted in my seat, wincing as pain shot up from my shoulder to my neck. The minx had terrible aim, but that didn't mean the s**t didn't hurt. "Prime, I insist!!!" "Isaac?" "Yes Prime?" "You have five seconds to get out of my office, or I will not hesitate to sink my teeth into you and suck you dry." He paled at my words before scrambling away, almost crashing into the wall. I turned my attention back to the picture. I couldn't see her eyes, but I could still remember the hard and determined glint in them when she had pointed her gun at me. "Why is your healer trembling in the hallway? Is this about the bullet?" I looked up to see Tony; my Beta, walking in. "My mate gave me something precious, why on earth would I have it removed?" I inquired. He arched a brow at me. "Something precious? Jacob, she didn't write you a love letter or make you a charm bracelet, she fuc.king shot you with every intention of killing you." "Which makes it all the more precious." I replied, he shook his head, muttering something underneath his breath along the lines of me being a psycho. "What about the Ridgeway Valley boy?" "Secured in one of the cells, do you really think she will surrender? The woman not only manipulated Samara, but she also infiltrated your lands. She doesn't seem like the type to go down without a fight" I looked back at the picture, the way her jaw was clenched, and smiled smugly. "I would be disappointed if she went down easily. I want her full of fight and fire, so I can break her down. Let her father watch from whatever hellhole he is in as I claim his daughter as mine." ************** *********** ************ ADELAIDE SILVERSTONE I stared at the door in front of me, nervousness pooling in my stomach as I nibbled the life out of my bottom lip. After the rage and anger had ebbed away, it had been replaced by overwhelming guilt. I had been the one to talk Liam into my plans for revenge, and now he was paying the price for it. My thoughts had moved further to Uncle Pete. Liam was his only child, the next in line to the Alpha-ship of Ridgeway Valley and I had thrown the future of the pack into uncertainty. Sighing, I ran my fingers through my hair, wondering and mentally preparing myself for how I was going to tell Uncle Pete that the most dangerous man in the world was holding Liam hostage because I had made an attempt on his life. I could feel a pulsing in my hindbrain. Eda tried to push through, but I shoved her back. After her and Nanna Ur's charged encounter, I didn't trust any of them and I didn't want to be influenced by them either. Just get this over with. I knocked and opened the door. Uncle Pete stood in the middle, getting ready for the day. He looked up at me before looking away. I could tell he still felt guilty for telling me the truth. Yeah, well… you're about to be extremely pissed. "You're back… how was it?" He inquired, his voice low. "It went well, I got the answers I needed." I replied, choosing my words carefully. "And what are you going to do with those answers?" He asked, glancing at me. "Actually… that's not why I came here. I uh… I have a confession to make." I whispered, fiddling with my jacket zipper. "A confession?" "Yeah, I… Remember the backpacking trip I went on?" I prompted. He frowned, nodding his head. "You and Liam, yes I remember," He answered. I let out a deep breath, swallowing hard, the pressure in my chest increasing as I said the next two words. "I lied." He froze, brows furrowed, a look of confusion on his face. "What?" "We didn't go backpacking, I instead disguised myself and traveled to Yellowstone with Liam to kill Jacob Mont Blanc." I whispered, glancing at him. He was frozen, eyes wide, lips parted in shock. "What have you done, Adelaide?" he whispered. "I needed to get revenge…" I whispered, staring up at him. "At what cost?! For years, I managed to convince the world that you were dead just so that you could live a semi-normal life, and you decided to destroy every single one of my well-laid out plans because of your wretched need for vengeance!!!" He cried out. I swallowed hard, staring down at my feet as he ran his fingers through his hair, tugging at it while mumbling beneath his breath. "Uncle Pete…" "And Liam… how could he be so stupid?!" He snarled. "I will deal with him as soon as he gets back." I let out a sigh, preparing myself for what was about to come. "Liam isn't coming back anytime soon." I whispered, he turned to me, a frown on his lips. "I received a letter from Jacob, he has Liam… and he wants me in exchange for him." The silence was charged. Fear washed over his features. "T-that monster has my son?" The helplessness of his voice tore at my inside. "Uncle Pete…" "Go back to your room." He whispered, walking away from me. "What about Liam?" I questioned. We needed to figure out a plan to get him back. "goddess damn it Adelaide!!! Go to your room. I will deal with it. You have done enough!" He snapped. I took a step back, shocked at his response, before making my way out and closing the door behind me. I walked back to my room, Liam's signet ring still in my hand. "My oh my… a black dahlia, not a flower I would want to receive." "I thought I made it clear that I don't want you here anymore." I said, glaring at Nanna Ur. She smiled, twirling the deformed looking flower. "So what are you going to do now?" She asked instead. I brushed past her and sat on my bed, staring once more at the letter, almost as if it would erupt into flames at any moment. "Well, I know what I'm not going to do and that is sitting here while Liam is languishing in some hellhole." I muttered, walking over to my drawer and grabbing my car keys before heading to the door. I tried to open it but realized I was unable to. "What the hell?" I tried once more, hearing what sounded like reinforced chains rattling. He did not! "Uncle Pete!!!" I shouted, hitting the door before letting out a frustrated growl. "Well that sucks, how are you going to get out now?" She inquired as I paced the length of my room. I stopped, glancing at the glass wall before smirking. “Oh, don't worry about that.” I walked up to the bedside table, lifting and launching it at the glass, shattering it. Without wasting time, I ran towards the opening, leaping into the air before landing on the ground in a crouch. I straightened and made my way to my car. I knew it was only a matter of time before the noise attracted my uncle and his men, so I revved up my engine, stomped on the gas pedal and sped away in the direction of a certain witch. ********* ********** ******** "My oh my, I must have made quite an impression on you to be back here so soon," She remarked, smiling. "I need your help." I replied, walking up to the counter. "With what?" She inquired. "You brew poisons, right?" "Poisons, curses, hexes, whatever you need, Agatha's got it." She quipped. "Good, I need something potent enough to kill an Alpha Prime," I explained. She let out a laugh, clutching her stomach as she did. "Oh that's so funny…" I stared at her, a brow raised. Her laughter died off, and her eyes went wide. "Wait… you're actually serious… no, I am not helping you with that." I stamped down the flash of annoyance I felt at her words. "I am not requesting, I am ordering you to make me one." I snapped. "With all due respect, I am not about to get involved in whatever sh,it is going on between you and the Mont Blanc Alpha Prime. My loyalties lie with you, but I also value my life." I took a step forward, extending my claws. "Do you think I cannot kill you?" She stared at them, a wary expression on her face. "I am certain you can, but The Mont Blanc Prime will make it more painful than you would ever be able to." She replied, a hint of fear in her eyes. "What if I give you my word as the Silverstone Alpha Prime that this will not be traced back to you?" I offered, stretching out my hand. She pursed her lips, arms folded across her chest before taking my hand in hers. "Fine, and your word is your bond?" "Yes." I answered, feeling the ring and our connected hands warm up at my promise. Making such a promise was risky. If I did go back on my word, it would affect me adversely, but it was a risk I was willing to take. "Alright then, give me three hours and I will whip up something." ******** ********** ********* "It is done." I placed the book I was reading aside and walked over to her. She was standing in front of a cauldron, admiring the glistening light-green-colored liquid as it swirled around. I stared at her, a bit disturbed at the look of glee in her eyes. Maybe asking a witch to brew something powerful enough to kill an Alpha Prime wasn't such a good idea. A ring appeared in her palm, she popped out the white oval-shaped gemstone. Using her powers, she dipped it into the cauldron. Seconds later, the stone levitated out of the brew. Its color, now the same as the poison, giving it the appearance of an aventurine gemstone. “All you have to do is drop the gem into his drink.” She instructed, popping the gem back onto the ring before handing it over to me. I slipped the ring onto my finger. “Won't the color of the poison distort the color of his drink?” I inquired. “The gem will stop that from happening. It has some magical properties that will make the color of the poison merge with that of the drink and with the poison having no smell or taste, you have nothing to worry about.” She explained. "Thank you." I whispered. "What are you going to do with the rest?" I inquired. "I'm going to keep it, of course, it's also a great weedkiller." She answered, flashing me a grin. Something told me it was no weed killer. “I'll take my leave, thank you once again.” "You're welcome, and Adelaide, be careful, the Mont Blancs… there is something wrong with them… especially Jacob." She whispered, my mind immediately flashed to his red eyes and I swallowed hard. “What exactly is up with him?” I inquired, my curiosity getting the best of me. She shrugged, shaking her head. “I don't know and that scares me,” She whispered. I stared at her, a feeling of foreboding coursing through me before I shot it down. Jacob Mont Blanc will not scare me. "I'll be okay." I left her house, and went to my car, staring at the ring before letting out a shaky breath and starting the car. The engine purred to life and I drove in the direction of the Mont Blanc Consulate. Hang on Liam, I'm coming.
