NEIL'S POV

I could see that Elena was having a nice time and I loved seeing her happy. She told me that this was not only her first time in a crowd but it was also her first time at a party. I felt like it was very unfair that she had to live her life locked up no matter what the reason for that was, to me that made her more of a prisoner than a princess. I couldn't even imagine what life must have been like for her as a child, I understood that her father kept her locked up for her safety but I was beginning to think that he also kept her locked up out of resentment for her gift. If indeed her mother had died after giving birth to her due to her condition, then I could only imagine the hatred and resentment her father felt towards the Phoenix living inside of her.

I could never call Elena being a phoenix a curse, in my eyes, it was a gift and the reason for that was the fact that everybody except her father and myself seemed to want it for themselves. The phoenix was a part of her and I believed the legend that the Phoenix female has a melodic voice, long golden hair, and milky skin. All those were features that Elena had in my eyes, so I could never separate her from the Phoenix because I believed that without the Phoenix there would be no Elena and without Elena, there wouldn't be a Phoenix.

"So how do you like the party so far," I asked her as we danced, even though I wasn't able to touch her directly I still enjoyed the little contact that we were having.

"I love it, I have been missing out on a lot," she said with a shy smile

"You have but we have the rest of our lives to get you up to speed," I said fighting the temptation to kiss her

"I am sorry we can't touch" she apologized

"No need to apologize, we will figure it out. I will find a way" I said but I was worried that I would never be able to touch her and how we would even mate, what if she went into heat?

"don't worry about all that, we will cross that bridge when we get there. let's focus on right now" she said responding to my thoughts

"Did I say that out loud?" I asked her

"No, you didn't, but I can kind of hear your thoughts," she said and my eyes widened instantly, I had forgotten about that

"You mean all this time?' I asked her

"Yes, but I never tell anyone that, I don't want anyone thinking I am weird" she explained "And I often ignore the thoughts because they are kind of none of my business" she added

"I can never think you are weird however I do think I will have to control my thoughts in your presence," I said with a smile "Please remind me what else can you do?" I asked her in curiosity

"Well, I can communicate with my dad from anywhere, I can talk to him from here through my mind," she said

"Is it only your dad?" I asked her

"It's only ever been my father and nobody else, I mean I have never tried it with anyone else," she said

"Well, I want you to try it on me, and I hope your voice sounds as beautiful as it does when I am speaking to you face to face," I said

"I can also see-through people's clothes," she said

"What? That must be horrific" I exclaimed as I stopped dancing instantly, I didn't mind her seeing me naked but seeing all these wolves in their birthday suits would be horrible and maybe a little disgusting

"You are right that would be very disgusting," she said failing to control her laugh " I am just joking I don't have laser eyes or anything like that," she said and I joined her laughing in relief.

we continued dancing even after every other mated wolf had sat down, I couldn't let go of her and if I could have it my way, I would take Elena home with me tonight.

" Will you please excuse me?" she said as her eyes seemed to be captured by something or someone

"sure," I said releasing her and watching her go

I was so lucky to be mated with Elena and it didn't matter what anyone else was going to say about it.

ELENA'S POV

I noticed my father having some sort of argument with Neil's father and then storm off, he seemed to be upset and set off by something and I was worried about him. After Neil let me go, I couldn't wait to go to my father's side and hear what had upset him so badly and what Neil's father had said to him.

I stopped and hid behind a huge vase when I realized that I had not been the only one who followed my father to his office. It appeared that Neil's father followed him and he also seemed to be upset.

"You are just mad that my son is mated to your daughter just admit it," Alpha Antonio said as he slammed the door behind him. I hurried to the office door and then pressed my ear to the door so that I could hear what they were arguing about more clearly.

"No, you are responsible for everything and that includes my wife's death," my father said and I covered my mouth with my hand

"I did nothing to the Queen" Alpha Antonio shot back "you failed to protect your mate so don't use me as a scapegoat. Just take responsibility for what happened and your negligence" he accused

"If you hadn't betrayed us, to begin with, I wouldn't have had to protect her from anything, but because you think of no one but yourself and your pack you had my mate killed and my daughter cursed not to mention the other things I lost afterward," my father said and I wondered what else he had lost.

"Are you accusing me of being a traitor?" Alpha Antonio questioned my father

"I am saying that there is no way that I will allow this union to continue, and once Elena hears of what you did she will want nothing to do with your son too," my father said

"Don't be so sure about that and don't make the princess carry your burdens of bitterness you must just let the past go," Alpha Antonio said

"My daughter never had a normal childhood because of you, she had to spend her childhood locked up with no friends and no sister and she never went to school because of you, she grew up without a mother because of you" my father accused

"Don't blame me for your poor parenting skills" Alpha Antonio mocked and that angered me the next thing I realized I was bursting into the office breathing heavily and ready to murder him.

"Princess," my father said startled by my presence but when he saw the color of my eyes, he realized that I was faded and the Phoenix was slowly taking over.

"Calm down my darling, relax," he said approaching me slowly

"What is wrong with her eyes? is she about to turn on me?" Alpha Antonio asked with a slight laugh as if I could never do anything to him, but he had no clue just what damage I could cause him.

"Antonio get the f**k out of my office and let me deal with my daughter, as you can see, she is very upset," my father said and Alpha Antonio strolled past me and out of the office.

My father had a lot of explaining to do...
