An unpleasant meeting

NEIL’S POV

The whole mansion was a buzz as we headed for the palace, it was very rare for our pack to be invited for anything in the palace and that was all thanks to my father’s behavior. Although I didn’t understand where the bad blood between my father and the Alpha king originated, I knew that things were never pleasant between them. The alpha King couldn't stand my father and my father would never stop provoking him but sometimes he took it a little too far with disrespect but my father always did what he please even if it displeased someone else

However, today was a very special and important event for all of us in the kingdom because a lot of wolves hoped that they would return to their respective packhouses with their mates. It was custom that if a wolf found his mate he was to take her back to his pack where she would start living with him. Today was more special to me because of the three years that I had been attending the mating ball, this time I was certain that I would be taking my mate home. I knew that mine and Elena's situation was a little unusual and different but I hoped Alpha Michael would let me take her with me and then we would return to the palace once our mating ritual was finished. Since Elena was the only heir that the king had, that meant she was next in line and she couldn't live with me in my father's mansion. It was rather I who was supposed to live with her.

I was surprised to notice that even my father was excited about being in the presence of King Michael, he never had anything good to say about him but today he couldn’t stop referring to the kind as his ‘good friend’ and he couldn’t stop telling us how he couldn’t wait to see his ‘good friend’.

After getting ready and putting on my black tuxedo I headed for my car, I intended to go alone. My father tended to attract a lot of attention that I didn’t want whenever we were out in public together and that embarrassed me a lot. Tonight was a special night for me and I didn't want anything ruining that for me or my father pissing the king off.

“Neil, wait for me I will ride with you,” he said running to catch up with me

"Dad I wanted to go alone," I said trying to walk faster but he caught up

"Well I want to ride with you," he said with a smirk as he got into the passenger aide and I got on the driver's side and started the car.

“Are you excited to see your mate?” he asked as we started the car.

“More than you know, and dad please don’t embarrass me tonight. This night is very important to me” I warned

“It’s important to me too Neil,” he said with a smirk that annoyed me because it showed me he was up to no good.

“Yeah but it’s not about you so just remember that and try not to make anyone angry tonight. I would like to not embarrass myself in front of my mate” I said

“I just can’t wait to meet your father-in-law and rub that fact in his face,” he said and I could see he was fantasizing about the Alpha king finding out that his princess was mated to me.

“Just stay away from him” I warned again, there was no telling what my father would get up to or what he would say to the king and end up ruining things for me.

ELENA’S POV

I had never been in a room with so many wolves in my life, the only wolves that I had always been around were my close family. I wasn’t even allowed to be around the omegas because my father didn’t trust anyone to be around me and he didn't trust me around them. Being in here felt so odd and I felt like I didn’t fit in, I felt like I was out of place like I was forcing myself to fit in.

Sharon was right by my side safely holding my hand through the safety of my long gloves.

“Just relax” she whispered to me “you look very beautiful” she added

“so do you,” I said, she looked amazing in her short dress although I could never pull off such a look, I could never expose so much skin and risk being touched by anyone.

My father was busy socializing with some Alphas and he was also entertaining some guests. He was good at wearing faces, I knew he was as nervous as I was about tonight but he was so relaxed he looked like he was having the time of his life.

“Your father is calling you” Sharon whispered in my ear and we walked to my father who was also wearing gloves so that he could touch me

“This is my daughter Alpha Luke,” he said proudly introducing me to the handsome grey-haired man who smiled at me

“It’s so nice to finally meet her, now I see why you have kept her locked up in here all this time. She is so beautiful. That hair and that skin” he said staring at me and I shifted uncomfortably.

Alpha Luke seemed like he was a little bit of a pervert, his eyes seemed to be ripping my clothes apart so that he could take a peek inside.

After my father introduced me to the rest of his friends, I felt cold airbrushing the back of my neck, and then after that, I felt Goosebumps all over my skin although I was covered with a cloak. My stomach started turning and I could pick the beautiful seductive scent that had filled the air.

My mate was here...

I looked back and I almost ran to him but Sharon pulled me back and stopped me in my tracks

“Don’t even think about it” she warned

“But he is going to find out soon enough,” I said as Neil and I gazed at each other from across the room, almost every girl in the ballroom was focused on him and they followed his eyes and realized he was focused on me. I could hear some of them mumble that it was unfair when they realized that he had already found his mate.

“Elena” my father pulled me to the side

“Yes father,” I said finally taking my eyes off Neil

“Please don’t tell me that is your mate,” he said looking at Neil’s father with contempt in his eyes

“It is him father” I whispered as I noticed that Neil and his father were making their way toward us and talking about us as we were talking about them.

“Of all the wolves in the world, it just had to be his son” my father spat as Neil and his father came to a halt in front of us

“Your highness” Alpha Antonio said bowing down but I could see there was no respect there

“Antonio,” my father said staring him down and I didn’t like that but Alpha Antonio smirked and seemed to be enjoying the fact that he annoyed my father that much.

“So I hear our children are mates,” Alpha Antonio said

“It appears so,” my father said “but that doesn’t change anything about your position in this kingdom,” my father said as he walked away and Neil cleared his throat to signal that his father should also leave.

After his father left it felt like the world stopped spinning for a little while, looking into Neil’s eyes made me feel like I had everything that I needed and wanted. He reached for my hand and squeezed it, even though we couldn’t get the skin-to-skin contact we so badly needed, there was no denying the sparks that flew when he reached for my hand. I suddenly fit into this place and I felt like I was right where I was supposed to be.

“You look very beautiful tonight,” he said as he lifted my hand and kissed it

“Thank you, you look handsome too,” I said as I lifted my other hand and placed it on his face

“I have wanted to do this from the moment I found you,” he said kissing my hand again

“I wish we could do more” I whispered as tears started welling up in my eyes as I started to feel deprived

“Let’s not discuss this right now,” he said taking me out of my sorrow before I started drowning in it and then he led me to the dance floor.

This was the most beautiful thing that I had ever experienced.
